After deciding that they work for him no matter what he says on the matter, members of the newly-minted Grand Fleet start addressing Luffy as 麦わらの大頭/mugiwara no ōgashira, basically meaning like ‘Big/Great Boss Strawhat’, which is SO FUNNY TO ME because that’s the exact stupid self-important title that the imposter Luffy at Sabaody told his mob of new followers to call him by.
THEY HAVE MATCHING TANK TOPS AND THAT'S JUST PRECIOUS.
Also, at which point did they have time to go souvenir shopping, and why is a matching set of novelty shirts from the Corrida Colosseum the thing they decided to go with?
“Through the very odd practice of son’s cups and forces unexpected and out of their control, seven odd and mighty warriors labeled themselves followers of Straw Hat Luffy. After this moment they will each grow in power until they eventually cause a great incident of historic proportions, but for the moment that is a story no one yet knows about.” ch. 800
Zoro’s just here for the booze
Hello! I love your blog and now that you passed the Dressrosa arc I can finally ask a question I was wondering ever since the chapter came out. When Luffy refuses to drink the brotherhood sake, he says something about the taste of the alcohol and I saw many translation that make him say that "he doesn't like alcohol" and it doesn't make sense at all because we see him drink a lot (and he's a pirate ffs) so I think he actually says he doesn't like this alcohol in particular. Do you confirm this?
Can confirm!
He says he doesn’t really like sake. (あんま酒好きじゃねェし/anma sake suki ja nai shi- ‘I don’t really like sake...’)
You could translate this as ‘I don’t really like alcohol,’ because the word 酒/sake also can just mean ‘alcohol’ since sake was and is the dominant kind of alcohol in Japan. No doubt that’s where those translations come from, but I think it makes more sense, and reads more naturally in Japanese, to translate it as ‘sake’ specifically here.
I mean, at least it was only Sengoku that heard this...
I just think it’s cute that Cabbage is checking in with Leo to make sure he’s good and can get home safely.
