Is it just me or do Wano's chapter titles go especially hard?
Sanji’s prioritizing helping Kin’emon over protecting Nami and is trusting Usopp with that instead which...it’s not an exact callback to the whole ‘we all have things we can and can’t do’ speech but I think it’s a subtle nod to it and generally when Sanji asks Usopp to do something he takes it pretty seriously.
forgot to mention when 991 dropped, but when usopp is hiding behind nami and pretending to be her, he’s also mimicking her usual more feminine style of speech- basically talking like a girl in order to imitate her. he uses 私/watashi and あんた/anta for ‘I’ and ‘you’, and at one point uses しなさい/shinasai instead of the usual しろ/shiro, which is a more polite/feminine way of making a request/demand.
Now that he’s on the crew he can truly enjoy the experience of collectively yelling at the captain
So chapter 991
First I wanna say in the recent arcs one piece hasn't really felt like one piece. Maybe its because of how serious some of the arcs have been but honestly I fell like we haven't gotten any true unfiltered strawhat nonsense since punkhazard. Maybe its because they've pretty much been split up since punkhazard/the start of dressorsa idk but with this 991, im-
This is some of that strawhat nonsense I miss, I haven't seen Nami and Usopp, or even chopper do anything like this in a while.
And of course this whole panel right here
Top teir strawhat shit that I've missed so much 😭
And it feels like there was just a lot of the traditional strawhat shit I fell in love with when I started watching this show almost 6 years ago. Unrelated but thinking about how long ago I started watching this has just vibe checked my entire sense of identity.
And this panel? Zoro getting between Drake and luffy like that?? 🥺🥺
NOT TO MENTION THIS!!
Jimbei coming in klutch!! 😭❤💕🥺
Also, nami being a fucking queen
That is all
It took a very long time but the family’s finally all together
Okay again we get this mention that Luffy just draws people to him and has the ability to make them allies regardless of their initial affiliations, but I do find it notable that Coby also mentions how different things are when he’s an enemy.
Luffy’s definitely not above allying with anyone so long as their goals align, but until that happens he’s proven that he can hold grudges and he doesn’t forget when someone’s wronged the people he cares about.
In Ch 991, pg 4, the official translation about Ulti pointing out Luffy to Pay-Pay makes it sound like they have no clue who 'the guy with the strawhat' could be... Is that accurate to the original too?! Do Kaido's forces in Wano also not get any news from the outside world that they have no clue who Strawhat Luffy is at all?! Like I would understand a delay in news, so they have no clue about the 5th Emperor stuff, but not knowing Luffy at all 2 years after Summit War seems weird right?
i wondered about that too, while i was reading. page one just calls him 麦わらの男/mugiwara no otoko (’the man in/with the straw hat’) and comments on how he seems to be in charge of the pirates, while ulti just calls him さっきのやつ/sakki no yatsu (basically ‘that guy from just now’). so it kinda does seem like they don’t know who he is.
although, given page one and ulti don’t even have one brain cell between them most of the time and they seem to have a pretty good setup in wano with no real reason to care about the outside world, my guess would be it’s less a matter of them having no access to the news, necessarily, and more one of them just not paying attention.
