Wait I’m thinking about the previous ask about Othello gendering Grelle. I’m pretty sure I read a fan translation of the manga but wasn’t there a page where Othello tells her, “Be a good boy and behave”? (Where Ciel and Sebastian discover Violet) I’m not sure what the official translations says or if he just says something different in the official.
Othello's way of speaking to Grelle
Othello and Grelle have a few moments like that in ch125, but not once in the licensed English translation does Othello refer to Grelle by any particularly gendered term.
Let me grab some screenshots.
"My dear Grelle"
"Can't have you making a mess... so sit tight"
"Ohh, dear, sweet Grelle?"
Othello says "Oh, boyyy!" but he's not addressing Grelle here, just expressing excitement.
"So you keep at the soul collecting, 'kay?"
"Chop, chop! Get to work on those souls!"
Bonus
Grelle says this in ch125, besides claiming to be a "delicate flower":
I've really never noticed Othello using any masculine words to refer to or describe Grelle.
And he likes to copy Grelle's terms for Sebastian -- "Sebastian darling" -- and William -- "Willie-poo". Though Othello might actually call William that anyway! 😆
once again screenshotting as i read
cheebs :]
god the close ups get me. they’re so beautiful
i think this frame is cute
"Hua Cheng raised his hand and was originally going to grab for Xie Lian’s shoulder, but hearing Qi Rong make noise, he turned his wrist. Qi Rong yelped as he was thrown back inside"
Rambling about Fairies - Manga Chapter 125
I like how the Power of Love is utilized in moments like these. Love makes magic strong, even evil magic, because love can in fact be evil and warped. But here, we see Love make magic actively weaker, to the point where Fairy Law did nothing but waste all of Laxus' magic power for a spell that didn't fulfill its purpose.
Love is a very vague word.
