Happy Storyteller Saturday! If you could rewrite any existing piece of fiction with your OC as the main protagonist, which story would you choose and how would the change affect it?

I am not really sure. The only one I could come up with was The Dancing Girl by Mori Ogai, but with my Takeru as MC. The thing is… it will be a completely different story! The original is a love story ish and deals with the struggles of a Japanese man in Germany faced with choosing between the duty to his country and the love he has for a German girl.
Now, Takeru is aro so there will be no romantic plotline. Platonic? Yes, he might care for the girl and her difficult situation, but the events that make the original tragic will not happen. The second part of the plot, the struggles with his belonging among his Japanese peers and the duty for his country, he will be much quicker to return to Japan than Ogai’s protagonist, but not necessarily due to his civic duty. Takeru is unpredictable and listens to authority only when/if he is certain it will work in his own favor.
