One Piece 1182 first thoughts.

Stylish Franky on the color spread! He's reminding me a bit of Igaram's hair, though with more spikes.

I'm glad we spend a bit of time on Zaza and Ripley being badasses. Ripley's gotta value her life more though. Yes work to save her son, but don't just rush in without a plan.

While I don't love this timing of this flashback beginning now, Brook being a public menace is already amazing. Maybe the Loki and Imu fight will be skipped, nothing is really progressing either way with it, a skip ahead could help move things along.

This is all so much fun. Seeing familiar traits of Brook that he had when he was alive. Shuri and her father are pretty fun characters too.

Could Brook have seen Shuri and Reuven here? And that's why we only saw Robin's hallucinations at the time?

I don't know where exactly this is going, but if it ends with a scene set just a few months before Brook and Luffy's first meeting, I will be along for the ride, wherever this takes us.

Hmmm, Loki and Ragnir having an affinity for snow huh? Very hmmmmm. And I love the silliness of Rangir, he brings some much needed levity.

A cool little detail I noticed about the specific way that Imu says "world" here. They use the same kinda distinct term for that Roger used in chapter 1. この世 "Kono yo."

This is so cute. Sanji caring about his friends' dreams. The "..." from the two onlookers is silly hehe.

Chopper and Gerd being friends, yay! I'm glad that she is going to have her fingers back. How else is she to make more nice outfits?

Woah! A raid god! This looks Zazawesome! Killingham's logic is very funny to me. "Oh no! My head will get wet!" The fear of water does fit well with devil fruit users being unable to swim though. Fear is the Kami...

Jinbei would do well against Zaza, or maybe the Straw Hats could use umbrellas to defeat Zaza. Keep the rain off their heads.

And I'm not holding my breath or anything, but Luffy gear 5 tankman still feels possible, just a tiny bit more now. I think this is 5 chapters that Luffy has been eating.

Anyway, the Knights being pumped up with Omen, and Zaza being summoned, feels similar to all of the Elders arriving at Egghead. I think we could be out of Elbaph in the next 15-20 chapters.

With the latest chapter revealing a whole new character, I’ve seen people begin to speculate again about the existence of a rain based devil fruit, and I swear for the life of me I don’t know why this idea is so popular.

Why would there be a water based devil fruit when water makes a devil fruit user weak??????

Lovely to Look At

Okay...huge sigh of relief for Gerd's precious little massive fingies. She needs those for all kinds of things. Like doctoring, like our dear Chopper here who saved said fingies. We get some choice Rodo goobermaxxing too so it's all in good fun. My elder Millennial nerd brain can't see this Imu/Loki scene without translating the dialogue to "Come Nidhogg, friend or traitor come...and bring Ragnir, I have need of it." so the less said there the better probably. Something tells me I'm gonna get silly enough by the end of this.

We do seem to be getting to that part of a One Piece arc where everything else is peeling back. The Knights are setting the time limit too and you know? How about that for a subversion? Unlike Birdcage or dropping Onigashima, this time the villain is on a timer. And I do think there's a certain logic to that. You see how daunting the finale with the WG will be here, they have their limits though this deep in the New World. So you can give em the slip and race to the One Piece with Shanks, BB, and Cross Guild...but this limit won't be there when you have to take the fight to them at Mariejois. So...anything? Anything else interesting or is this just one of those between two breaks setup chapters?

What in the dahlink? Yeah okay, I'm sold on Zaza Gabor dude we can just make the next fifty chapters about her. I do get it, it makes sense the Knights would be put off by something so simple and commonplace. Like, yeah living up on the Red Line they probably don't get a lot of it but you know there's also that element of it being something they can't control.

I also...don't care. It's a giant four-armed rain goddess with a cool look to her. Big ladies with precipitation-based motifs are our jam here. I love this combination of this very big conical hat that's more elaborate than a casa but still very East Asian, then a veil with an Arabian vibe but underneath we've got a figure that if I had to compare kinda reminds me of Stussy or Hibari. Light hair, heavy bangs. Very cosmopolitan style. The raindrop motif and all the pearls are just super cool!

Now how the hell are we supposed to fight the embodiment of the rain guys? Jinbei? Water's your domain. Sanji? This count as a lady? If she does...is she weird and quirky enough to become Usopp's favored enemy type? Nami wanna protect your territory in this series? Or...or, just spitballin here maybe she likes cute things and wants to be our friend going forward. So let's deploy the Chopper. Baby Gramps Chopper. Does it make sense? Not really, but I'd like it. Now all we need is for our Sun God plus this making a big ol rainbow...so he can bonk Satan with it.

Somehow, the idea of Celestial Dragons being scared of rain is funny as hell to me. You guys made out of sugar or something?

Also, I look forward to seeing who has/ends up having the devil fruit of this god. I mean, Nika has one, so she does as well, yeah? But who had it in the past? For some reason, my thoughts first went to Nefertari Lili... could Vivi get this devil fruit?

And speaking of Arabasta royalty, the opposites that they and the Celestial Dragons are here aren't lost on me. Like, the former wishes rain for their lands, yet the later the fear it? Good thinking Oda, good thinking.
