Really. They’re a thing on subs. And I don’t mean the Hearts Crew. But of course I do!
Further to @usopps-froggy-hat‘s post, (I’ll put the link in the comments. You know how links screw with visibility), I just loved the extra bits and pieces that we got in episode 983 about the Polar Tang, which I don’t think was in the manga.
Anyone who’s done some canon-based fic for Law and the Hearts has probably done some submarine research, so it was great to hear Bepo say things like:
And for Penguin to repeat it and hop to it and for Bepo to order Jean Bart to open the vents, and for Jean Bart to agree and to order the next along the line to
The ‘adjust trim’ is once they’ve submerged, btw, so I’ve posted Bepo’s pic out of order.
Then Jean Bart checks that the water intake is good, and Shachi doubles up:
and they’re just a well-oiled team.
Law orders them all to submerge, they do, and that’s where the trim section comes into. If a submarine submerges or ascends correctly, it is a kind of straight up and down thing.
When all is right, Bepo orders that they
and asks Law:
To which (after telling all the guys that they better keep focused) Law answers:
And there she goes.
Good to see that Law knows what’s going on too. Like I can’t imagine him as a captain without knowing how the Polar Tang works, but I’ve read enough fic where he’s somehow pretty hopeless as a leader except for in use of his fruit and medical knowhow (and his endearing and eternal smexiness).
THEN, even better than that was that it was Bepo’s chance to shine! So good to see him definitely navigate the ship, pushing him forward as first mate contender perhaps? (that’s never been confirmed, I think).
Anyway, I love filler like this.
This was all we got in the manga of this particular theme, and episode 983 also builds on Kin “building on” (bullshitting on) Law’s plan. Good stuff.
