Thoughts about the chapter

I wanna share my thoughts about the series right now but I'm also not even sure where I should start from. On one hand, I do have many scenes and moments that I enjoyed, but on the other, some choices just left me like "?????".. For example the battery of the camera dying on such an important moment, unless Toga had been saved or escaped, I don't really see the point in that?

Like in my mind, everything is telling me that she MUST have escaped and is alive, but at the same time I'm here looking at how we only have one chapter left, Deku still didn't get to talk with his mom, he will probably have a scene with Kacchan, talk about the embers, and might see their future selves... Will we even get the chance to explore anything about Toga in that case? (Unless it's left as an open ending..?)

And then in this chapter, although Uraraka cried and got comforted by Deku and eventually the rest of the class, Deku didn't talk that much about his own feelings before getting interrupted, so it's very unbelievable to me that that was enough for him to feel better? Will we get to see him open up more in the final chapter? If this is all it takes for him to move on with his feelings regarding this then I can't say that I'm feeling very fulfilled or satisfied, but I also won't bash the story and will wait for the final chapter to make up my mind.

Also, regarding Uraraka's character, I know that a LOT of my moots like her, but I was left disappointed with the conclusion to her character arc, as others have said already, I'm sure Hori didn't do it on purpose, but the way her character started, how much effort was put into making her her own person with her own goals, just to have her fail them, and then be comforted by the MC's line of "you are my hero", in the context of her having a crush on him I didn't like that at all, and again I'm sure that Hori didn't mean it this way, but it does feel like she's only allowed to succeed if it's related to the MC (and also crush), it kinda feels insulting in a way...

Except that, the one thing that I'm expecting (and HOPING FOR) to happen is a handhold between Izuku and Kacchan, since they're allowed to visit their families now maybe Deku will go visit his mom, and since Kacchan lives near them he might accompany him, they might go back to the place where they used to play as kids, or the river, Kacchan might fall again (whether on purpose or not 👀) and that's when Deku offers his hand and he finally accepts it... Am I expecting too much? Lol

since the chapter is out right now, being raws and the translation, i won't be posting many screenshots as i usually do in respect of everyone. there being said, i want to talk about some things that happened in this chapter!!! also, i'm not calling it an analyze because i think i want to discuss about it more than analyzing it, if that makes sense. anyways, here we go!

this chapter really feels like a road trip, doesn't it? the pacing, the excitement, even the car seats arrangement. there's such a summer and youth vibes to it and that makes me so, so happy and excited for what's to come! i think that, in the end, two characters were the star of chap 51: maharu and nao.

want to talk about maharu first. at first, i was really surprised by her reaction, but wasn't the narrative building up to this? maharu has been showing signs of insecurity since some chapters ago, so it makes total sense, in my head for her to act like that, for a lot of reasons the most important one is the insecurity of being a small town girl when surrounded by people from the city. maharu is a girl who's starting her teenage years, so it's normal for her to see everything as "cooler than her" or that her traditions are less than people from tokyo.

and, hidden underneath this insecurity, she's facing two weird feelings. 1. the idea that her sister is changing and starting to become "a city girl" (since she was the only one who was "well put" while having lunch). 2. her sister's friends, which i have a little suspicious that she knows that them are helping mitsumi to buy her things that would suit her better. and finally 3. the jealously of having all the attention focused on her sister. i mean, she's also having problems! she's also changing! she's a teenager, she wants attention!!

mitsumi is changing, so is maharu. she's feels like she's losing importance, that mitsumi is no long part of their life style and that all her friends are "too good to be there". it's a ride, specially for a girl who's starting to feel the teenage hormones acting up.

and now, the other character that needs a spotlight: nao. it was widely known that nao hasn't come back since she transitioned. her hometown brings her a lot of dark memories and dealing with her family wasn't all that easy. who can imagine what's going to happen when she's finally back? and well, would you look at that: not only nao received a pleasant surprise, but us as well. that doesn't mean the scars are healed or that she's feeling 100% fine and safe there, but just the small step into recognition means more than words can explain.

general thoughts about the chapter:

mika being the one to first realize that something is wrong between shimamitsu really came as a surprise to me!! i know i made a lot of jokes about this before, but i was sure fumi would be the first one to catch that, and not one of the tokyo girls.

this makes me feel like we're closer and closer to mitsumi finally opening up to the girls and shima facing some criticism aside from his internal ones. this might result in a loot of outcomes, but i know that sensei have the perfect one hidden on her sleeve.

about shima (since we all know i'm a shima maniac), other than that, my suspicions about him not telling his mother about the trip is starting to grow. i mean, we never really saw nao talking to her, he didn't brought a gift (we know that his mother would never let that happen), so it all feels so sus to me...but also, on a lighter note, it's the first time he's visiting a friend's house (that isn't chris or mukai, people he grew up with). i mean, he never had that!! he never thought it would be possible!!! how amazing is that for him!!! (aside from the heartbreak scene he saws...)

the wallet scene is a focal point of the chapter, and this opens a lot of future resolutions involving shima. it's kind of a smaller moment in the bigger picture, but his face after seeing maharu storming out tells a lot to me, in a way. he can clearly see how hurt mitsumi is, even tho she's trying to fake it. all i wish right now is that he takes a step further and talk to her about this, give her some sort of comfort. he knows how important that moment (buying the wallet, i mean) was to her, and now he just saw with his own two eyes what happened, so i really hope he takes a step in. i truly do.

this could lead to a more mukai focused chapter, hear me out: with shima and mitsumi relationship being weird right now, it's obvious that, even if shima comforts her, things won't be normal for a while. they will both hide what happened and i have a feeling that mukai will be the one to caught on that. why? because he's the one who can have a better grasp on shima's bullshit. it won't give us a huge mukai lore but hmmmm...idk it's just a feeling. i can be very very wrong and that's totally fine, but my mind is twirling around this...

now if we're talking about fumi...:

i think a lot can happen, honestly. if sensei is thinking about focusing on maharu a little more, i can see maharu thinking fumi isn't by her side as well, which is a plausible outcome given the feelings that maharu has been dealing with.

if fumi takes maharu side, many different outcomes can happen. mitsumi and her can have a little discussion (nothing too hard, but it would make both feel very sad ofc) and mitsumi would have a little self conscious moment that she isn't giving the proper attention to her family and old friends.

if we think about fumi also being jealous, it can still have an outcome like the scenario i mentioned above or the meeting doesn't go as well as we were expecting. it's a thought moment to really focus on, since we didn't had any fumi thought yet, just a little glimpse.

can't wait to see what's waiting for us, can't wait to see all of them at the beach. i had a little bit of interaction between nao and shima (which you all know means A LOT to me) and now i can finally have my baby fumi meeting all of them. i'm so happy it feels surreal, in a way

Okay, so y’all know I’m in it for one thing and one thing only

And that’s Law.

And then it’s ZoLaw, platonic or romantic, I don’t care.

And then it’s Law caring about Kid and the others, or basically trusting in them, like, y’know figuring out the next line of attack, defence or retreat when Zoro’s almost killed himself in order to save Luffy.

Zoro’s words last chapter (or the one before?) were that if he failed it was up to Law. Or he used ‘you’ (in the translations, anyway), but seemed to be talking to Law.

Law allowed Big Mom to be saved by Prometheus because gaining victory over her was not worth the loss of Zoro’s or any of the allies’ lives.

Slopping in the official panel for this, cos it’s slightly different and clearer:

Cos I like to view Law as his own person, though he does get put upon for sure, I like that he decides to take everyone down to the castle. That it’s not some kind of casual order from Luffy, even though Luffy did basically say he had control of the situation last chapter, so everyone else could piss off (but he was much politer).

I dunno how Law figures Big Mom’s in the castle? I guess it’s because Kid’s contraption fell apart, therefore Big Mom is alive and that’s where she’d head.

Tactical rather than compassionate in this instance, I like that he teleports Zeus as well (Nami will be happy, cos I think that Big Mom and Prometheus have turned agains Zeus).

And did he teleport Kid and Killer too? Or was it the effect of the blast from Big Mom, as they stated? (No, cos’ the room doesn’t extend that far).

Look at Kaidou’s claws! Great framing. And it is Kaidou, right? Law there putting the pop! in snap and crackle, although the hiragana reads pa pa pa, but same meaning I’m sure!

And so while Law tends to Zoro with doctorly ministrations, somewhere in the keep (I guess his powers are probably best to heal Zoro, over Chopper’s general ,more conventional, skill, awesome as it is) the scene shifts to these too good ole boys:

Second floor of the keep. And in the manga cap below, just look at how delicate and spindly Kid’s legs are. I know it’s just a quick sketch and probably a lot better in the official release, but...

Okay. Next! Our o-shiruko, red bean paste soup, heroine, O-Tama. And it’s all about the o-shiruko. Always will be, always has been. Oh wait. I got ahead of myself. There’s scorpion Hawkins! Man he looks amazing.

JJK Nobara and he obviously share a few techniques in common, but that’s not surprising anda topic for another time. I love Hawkins’ design and fruit! Kid goes on to find Big Mom, and Killer’s left to face down the Voodoo Hoodoo.

Meanwhile, two of my other favourite heroes (yes I have multiple, just like ships), Usopp and Nami, are riding on the back of O-Tama’s lion-dog, Komachiyo, and bravely facing down Page One in their own way. Love them.

Page One ain’t giving up, despite Usopp’s stellar efforts, but guess who steps in to the fray?

Big Mom’s after our favourite redhead (who isn’t Nami or Shanks). Things are looking really bad (Prometheus is looking pretty happy. Or is it Hera now?). Anyhoo...

Big Mom and O-Tama are besties!!!, going back to that modest banquet (of o-shiruko) that was all that the very starved town of Obokore could afford to give her, and it could hardly afford that.

Though the official release shows that her gratitude is certainly tempered (see below)!

But remember that Luffy delivered a heap of food to them (is it the same food? Or maybe the food that some of the samurai stole to get Ashura Doji on side?), and so Kaidou’s minions burnt the town to a crisp, saying they stole it? (where’s O-Tsuru?) And also because they were loyal to the nine red scabbards.

Love the way that Oda has Tama’s font wavering like the lines of heat extending from fire. The official gives more information and a slightly different story, but the end result is the same (see below).

Big Mom is a bit upset because:

And that standard is to not mess with Big Mom’s o-shiruko. 

Or anyone’s o-shiruko for that matter. Queen the Plague will tell you and so will Zoro. (Once Law fixes him up)

first of all, yessss, I welcome all talk on this blog regardless if it’s requests or plain discussion on any of the fandoms celebrated here! 

so this took a while for me to answer because not going to lie, I had not caught up to the most recent chapters because I can easily consume a hundred chapters in a sitting, I decided to let it accumulate - anyways I only had 60 or so chapters to catch up on so now that I’m all caught up - let’s talk business.

But before that.

SPOILERS! In case that wasn’t obvious! Please don’t read ahead if you don’t want to be spoiled about MAJOR PLOT POINTS in TCF!! 600+ chapters and above!

can I first mention about how it feels like we’re quickly speeding towards the end of TCF and BOY. do I feel sad about it already. I can already feel the emotional drop from finishing a really good series from miles away and I’m sadly not looking forward to it. I always had a hard time parting from series and I already know TCF will hit hard. Perhaps when that time comes, I’ll have to drown my sorrows and release it out through stress writing.

aw man but where to even start? not from where I picked up because WOW author really packed A LOT in 60+ chapters and phew, this will turn into a thesis if I went and commented on it all- so Chapter 662- actually chapter 663. Because by the time I started writing this a new chapter has been updated so-

Right. Where to even begin?? First thing first will be to address the niggling issue at the back of my mind- because I’m a bit confused and not sure if I’ve understood it correctly. 662 really unpacked a lot of information.

So basically why White Star looks like Kim Rok Soo in TCF is because technically when he reincarnated again for Xth number time, he took over Kim Rok Soo’s TCF baby body, which forced out Kim Rok Soo’s soul to leap to Earth 1 and be born there instead. Now Death God decided he’s going to fix this anomaly (and TCF world) by offering to OG Cale Henituse the chance to regress + switch places with Kim Rok Soo, which essentially brings back Kim Rok Soo’s soul back to his original world albeit into a completely different body.

Now, here’s my issue. If this is fixing something, technically Death God fixed nothing? Because technically Kim Rok Soo wouldn’t have been the only soul that has been forced out by White Star in his many, many times of reincarnation cycles. Wouldn’t that mean there would’ve been other ‘Kim Rok Soos’ floating about on other Earths? So what I’m seeing is that, because TCF Earth is facing a crisis, he decided you know, since this world’s gone up in flames might as well try to salvage it by picking the most convenient dead soul- Oh look, a dead Cale Henituse! Great! Here, go to Earth 1 and that lost soul can return and fix this mess! Am I confused? Yes. I hope it will get answered in the future, about what happened to all the other souls that got pushed out of TCF because of White Star and Death God’s true motives.

At 660 chapters +, Author really did try to fit more plot into TCF didn’t they? I appreciate it haha

Next up Thames Family’s dark history - Are they modern people? TCF people? Variables themselves? Half immortals? Or are they the lost souls that’s been pushed out by White Star and brought back to TCF thanks to X God? I can appreciate that Author tried to lighten up the heavy mood with that little bit of humor in 663 (really going to make us think that Drew didn’t leave a single good clue for our dear Cale huh?) and finally, we get some flash backs to the world tree and the dangerous stick they handed over to Cale. Everyone sensing the ‘I’ll stab myself and it’ll turn into the strongest weapon’ moment coming towards us like an oncoming freight train.

Alright, give me your thoughts and your screams about the most recent chapters up to 663 guys. Remember to tag spoilers because we want to protect all our sweet new readers joining the TCF fandom! Meanwhile, I’m going to let TCF sit and accumulate for another 60+ chapters.

Spoiler: MLQC Ch 16 Discussion

As I’ve mentioned in a previous post, I am completely caught up with the CN server chapters. So I’ve read Ch 16 in CN before and this discussion will be a combination of my reaction from when I first read the chapter in CN and reading it again now in EN.

First of all, can I just say how HOT Lucien is when he’s making that evil face???

PG! Please draw more HOT LUCIEN EVIL EXPRESSIONS!

Gee... if only he makes those evil faces all the time, he’d climb to be my #2 (ok, he’ll fall to #3 after a couple more chapters, but still, he’ll be higher ranked than Victor and Kiro in my books...)

Ok, back to proper chapter discussion. When I first read this chapter, I really thought it would be a redemption arc for Lucien. Him sacrificing himself, risking his own death just to get MC to safety. I was so moved when he told MC to run to the exit and leave the dream world when he stayed behind and got, seemingly, critically injured without a good chance of winning against Hades.

Considering I’m not a Lucien fan, I never read many of his dates. I did read some of them for the purpose of understanding his character better so that I can write his fanfic without going too out of character, but I certainly did not read the majority of them. Therefore, my knowledge of Lucien is mostly from what was shown in the main storyline.

Therefore, I had always had doubts about Lucien’s feelings towards MC. No doubt he liked her, but how real, how deep were his feelings? Did he really love her? What was he willing to sacrifice for her?

These weren’t very clear to me when I first read Ch 16. Unlike the other 3 boys, his true feelings were never clear in the main storyline. We know Gavin would die for MC. He’s been shown to do that many times in the main storyline. We know that Kiro was also willing to sacrifice himself to save MC, as shown in Ch 14. We know Victor’s feelings run deep for MC as he is willing to do many things against his better judgment for her, even though he is a man of logic and practicality.

However, Lucien never really did these things clearly, at least not in the main storyline. Even in the few dates I read, they weren’t clear. It’s not due to poor storytelling, of course, his character is meant to be ambiguous. Of course, Lucien stans would say that they see his feelings for MC clear as day. But as a non-fan, I wasn’t so sure. There were too many manipulations, too many calculations in Lucien’s relationship with MC.

I’m the type of person who starts off trusting everyone around me. However, once someone proves to have lied (I’m talking about material lies, not little white lies that have no consequences) to or manipulated me, it takes a lot for me to forgive them and I would probably never trust them ever again.

Therefore, it would take a lot for Lucien to get into my good books (not that I trusted him ever since his first appearance in the story). So maybe I’m just difficult to satisfy in this “redemption arc” if this chapter is meant to be that. Or maybe, I’m just begging to see the “real” Lucien. A Lucien that would treat MC properly, without manipulation or calculation.

So when I saw him trapping his enemies with him so that MC can escape, I was moved. I was so happy to see him finally openly showing how deep his feelings run and that he was willing to truly make sacrifices for MC. However, that was all destroyed when he revealed that he was risking nothing at all.

From the point that he took her out of the room in the dream Hades weaved, they were no longer in Hades’ dream, where if you die in the dream, you actually die (or you get stuck). They were actually in Lucien’s dream, where if you die in the dream, you escape from the dream. Therefore, when he told MC to run while he held back the enemies, he knew he was never at risk. If MC runs through the exit, she leaves the dream. If he dies in that dream, he also escapes the dream. He wasn’t really sacrificing himself to save MC.

He was protecting her from harm or the feeling of dying. But he wasn’t sacrificing much, if anything, for MC’s safety.

I was disappointed. If this was PG’s way of writing Lucien’s redemption arc, they’ve done him dirty!

Did this chapter convince me of his true feelings for MC? Yes, it did. Did this chapter make me want to forgive him for manipulating MC and all the other terrible things he did (for example, making the flu virus in the first place)? No, it did not.

Yes, this entire manipulation and calculation were very within his character, very Lucien. But it redeemed nothing. At least not for a non-fan of Lucien. It was just more lies, more manipulation.

I had this discussion on the Thots of MLQC discord server and some think that Lucien telling her that it was his plan all along was just bravado. But I disagree. I don’t think he planned to be trapped by Hades in his dream, but he certainly planned to “die” in the dream to escape. After all, when he exited the initial room with MC, he did somehow transported all of them into his own dream, where people escape when they die. He was quick to think on his feet (after all, Luci is a genius) and he was quick to make up the plan. So I don’t think there was any bravado there.

I feel like for Lucien to have a successful redemption arc (at least in my books), there will have to be a situation where he has no hopes of planning for all contingencies. Or a situation where he knows he has very little chance of winning, yet, he completely risks himself to ensure MC’s safety or to help achieve MC’s goals. And his goal would have nothing to do with trying to stay on top.

There is no doubt that Lucien has changed since he met MC. However, due to his characterization, his long term endgame will always be to come out on top. Therefore, it is important, imo, to see him throw all his instincts and calculations away, and just give.

Wow... that was a long rant... and I didn’t even comment on the first half of the chapter at all. Oh well...

Ok, I can see Lucien stans coming at me with a machete now. LOL Let me know what you guys think of this chapter, Lucien stan or not. Did you think this was PG’s attempt at a redemption arc for Lucien? Did Lucien redeem himself for you? Or do you think his actual redemption arc is still yet to come?

Houseki no Kuni ch 84

Oh boy...Oh boy oh boyohboyohboy ... This is about to get m e e e es s s s yyyyyy~ Any theories on how this big raid is gonna go? E-Gems are waaaay outnumbered here, they relaxed quite a bit I assume, and Bort w Cinnabar and Sensei can’t take on all of them. right? Also, Phoses mind is totally broken, I’m really sad for them, I really wonder what direction will this manga take, can’t even imagine what kind of ending it might have (definitely not good one)
