To be honest, this little section of a kids book makes a great point and is probably a big insider to what many vigilantes feel. Marc doesn't like feeling scary. Steven knows they aren't afraid of them but rather in general of the situation. I also like how it explains that most of their villans are invisible to the public. A lot of people forget this. I actually really like that they included midnight mansion, tigra, and Reese, too.

I also like the idea of marc telling steven his issues and steven reassuring him.

The girl telling them thank you only after he is steven is also very accurate to their charaters. A lot of people think Marc is scary. I mean, his costume is meant to be. So they prefer to talk to steve. He's just a guy in a suit. It's easier. I feel like part of Marc understands this but wish people would see him as something not to be afraid of. Unless youre bad guys. And then he wants you to run for the hills. He likes when bad guys see him coming.

Guilt, Pride, and a little Bitterness on the Side

Long post - evaluation/exploration of Solas and a more negative-leaning take of his character. (coming from a diehard solavellan fan)

Something I've not really seen in the DA fandom, is the fact that, regardless of approval level/romance, Solas must just really hate Inky.

Allow me to explain, my dear lovelies:

Looking at it from Solas' pov; his plan for the orb at the beginning of the game goes to hell real fast. Hundreds, if not thousands of people die (horrifically, painfully, screaming) because of a situation He created.

But it's not just his fuck up/miscalculation - it's Inky's. The one survivor of the explosion, the one who foiled the plan to tear down the veil, the one who stole his power (we can consider it was an accident/coincidence, and Solas probably recognises it as that, but damn. If it were me in his shoes, I would be rather malcontent about that).

Yes, we may also consider this is a lucky break for Solas - he has another option laid out before him, and all he has to do is make himself appear useful and relatively harmless to keep close by for the eventual snatcheroo of the foci.

There's a messed up connection between Solas and the Inquisitor there - every death, every ounce of suffering and heartbreak is both of your faults. You're bound in blood, as it were - for an catastrophic event neither of you anticipated.

I imagine he has a great deal of guilt over this throughout the game - he's fucked over the world again - and he's got some random person caught in the middle, someone he's forced into a position of power (someone who is either a horrible person ready to take power, or a perfectly fine person who is likely to do horrific things that will tear them apart inside and out). He's corrupted you, essentially. He's not only harmed/killed countless people. He's made you the one responsible, he's making you into a puppet, puppeteer, and a monster. -- Again, from his perspective, he fully expects that power corrupts absolutely - he's hurting you on multiple levels.

Additionally, we're going to have to look at this on a broader level to get a grasp on the scale of this.

The events of the Conclave - tearing open the veil, causing rifts across Thedas - it's damaging the world and the Fade (sending animals into a frenzy, bringing demons through, making whole areas uninhabitable). Physical beings are being put in mortal peril, but we have to consider that so are spirits.

We know Solas favours the Fade/Spirits to the waking world and mortal beings. He outright states it on several occasions.

And we know that the Breach and the rifts force spirits and demons through, and drive them insane as a result (even Cole appears to have panic attacks over the rifts on occasion).

Allow me to put it more tangibly;

Wisdom, Solas' friend.

I think that chapter of the story is what highlights his bitterness/guilt the best - if not his entire character.

All I can ever think during this scene is this; if Inky hadn't been at the Conclave, his friend wouldn't have died. If Solas hadn't given his orb to Corypheus, his friend wouldn't have died.

It's his fault she's gone, and it's your fault too.

I'm always reminded of this scene at the end of the game when I think of Solas and his mentality. In this scene, he's- well- this man is fucked up.

He says 'it is not your fault' and you can tell he's meaning it's his. But I can still see it in there; he wants to blame Inky, he wants it not to be his fault, and the voice acting really convinces me of that (bless you Gareth David Lloyd). But he can't, because it all comes down to him and his countless mistakes (and terrible luck, like seriously, I think the universe has a personal grudge against this man).

That expression says guilt, shame, regret, bitterness. This is a man whose every effort has proved in vain- all the suffering, death and irreparable destruction. Everything he's done to you, it's all his fault - because he thought he was the smartest guy in the room, he's the only one who can fix everything because he's so prideful and experienced.

Now consider if you were his friend, if you were his goddamn vhenan. It cuts real deep.

Solas is a man who's been tested time and time again, and every time he's been found wanting.

He's a complex, compelling character (that I love absolutely), and he's objectively a terrible fucking person, and he knows it. Everything he touches burns, everything he tries to fix he makes worse, any advice he offers eventually turns bitter, and he knows it.

Henry Branwell: a ginger haired genius who loves his wife with all his heart.

Charlotte Branwell: the best head of an Institute the Shadowhunters world has ever seen and a loving wife and “mother”.

Gabriel Lightwood: a rude person who warms up to the others upon falling in love with Cecily Herondale.

Gideon Lightwood: a sweetie pie who wants to help everyone and falls in love with Sophie Collins.

Benedict Lightwood: a Shadowhunter with weird sexual preferences and actually a worm.

Tatiana Lightwood: a woman who lost her whole family and has a grudge against everyone.

Jem Carstairs: the sweetest, most caring and lovely boy the world has ever seen and a real talent with the violin. parabatai with Will Herondale and engaged to Tessa Gray.

Will Herondale: the most emotional and sweet boy to ever walk the earth who puts everyone's safety and happiness before his own. also a total bookworm.

Cecily Herondale: A tough girl who does what she wants to do, but loves with everything she has.

Thomas Tanner: a cutie who would always protect everyone and is so obviously in love with Sophie.

Cyril Tanner: twin brother of Thomas who always supports the Shadowhunters and is a great fighter.

Sophie Collins: a sweet and loving maid who cares for her masters so much, that she throws away her own wishes to make them happy. falls in love with Gideon and becomes a badass Shadowhunter afterwards.

Agatha: the best cook and fighter the mundane world has ever seen.

Bridget Daly: a badass redhead who has an obsession with sad ballads but fights like a hero.

Church: the immortal cat who hates everyone except for Jem and will show this openly.

Alright everyone. Brace yourself. Rant time.

Most of you follow me because I post about South Park a lot. Unfortunately this isnt a post about that fandom, but rather another fandom I'm in.

DC comics.

More particularly, DC comics biggest screw-up, in my eyes.

That being, of course, Harley Quinn.

Harley Quinn is my favorite comic book character. I discovered her when I was in middle school. My father introduced me to Batman Arkham Asylum. I heard her voice for the first time and fell in love. Her attitude was amazing. I loved her. I can never give Arleen Sorkin enough credit for just a stunning performance for so many years. It's a shame she's retired, but she deserves it. The character was inspired off of her, and she did a phenomenal delivery of the character for 20 years. And she deserves so much credit for that.

I fell in love with Harley Quinn quickly. I immediately went and watched all of Batman: The Animated Series, read all comic books including her, I roleplayed her for years and spent about five years fine tuning my voice to do a FLAWLESS impression of Arleen's take on Harley. I was, and am, devoted to the character.

But then I discovered New 52. Then, Suicide Squad came out. And there was DC Rebirth.

Every one of these pitched away more and more of this amazing character into a sexy Hollywood money machine.

I'm sure there are some of you who think the character from the movie and Rebirth is a funny, quirky, cute girl. But I'm here to tell you, as someone who witnessed the change happen, that is NOT Harley Quinn.

The media portrays Harley as crazy and sexy. She dresses skimpy and flirts. Batman: Assault on Arkham had the audacity to include a scene where she takes off her clothes to distract a guard.

The movie Batman and Harley Quinn was essentially a shitty rewrite of an episode of BTAS called Harlequinade. Harlequinade was phenomenally written and gave amazing moments for the character. She teams up with Batman and Robin to help stop The Joker. There's fun little moments that include them going to a friend's club for leads, and she gets on stage and sings a song to distract everyone.

Sound familiar?

That's the plot of Batman and Harley Quinn, except instead of Joker it's Ivy.

It's like Bruce Timm looked at his own goddamn property and decided there wasnt enough Harley shaking her ass and fucking Dick Grayson.

But what disgusts me most about the character is the fact they've portrayed her as this sexy, fun and quirky crazy girl.

Harley was fun, she was quirky, but her character was never designed to be sexy and she *wasn't crazy.*

Allow me to explain.

A good example is in the flashback scene of the movie Batman Beyond: Return of the Joker. Joker and Harley tortured Robin until he became they're child. While fighting Harley, Batgirl asks "how could you help Joker do it, Harley?" Harley responds "okay, so he roughed the kid up a little. But I'll make it right."

Harley was NEVER crazy

At least not in this fun way she's portrayed now!

She didn't understand the gravity of her decisions. She didn't understand the consequences and the fact that she literally ruined a child's life. She dismissed Joker's actions and said "I'll fix it."

She wasn't crazy, she just WASN'T ALL THERE.

In her Pre-52 comic book series, titled Harley Quinn, the end of the story involves her taking care of a little girl. I don't fully remember the details, but this girl essentially had a code in her irises. The code gained access to her late father's fortune. But in order to access the code, the little girl would go blind. A lot of evil men were after her to get the money, so Harley protected her.

The second to last issue ends on a cliffhanger. You see Harley trying to decide if she should make the girl blind and steal the money, or save her.

The final issue starts and the girl is nowhere to be seen. Harley begins hallucinating another version of herself, who leads her to the park. Where she sees the little girl. Blind.

She stands just out of reach of the girl and begins crying.

THAT marked the point where Harley went crazy

But it wasnt sexy and fun like the media shows her.

In that moment, Harley recognized what she did. She recognized there was no going back. With Robin she thought "yeah, but I can fix it." There was NO WAY to fix Harley's GREED ruining this little girl's life FOREVER.

ITS FUCKINF DEPRESSING.

THE SERIES ENDS WITH HARLEY CRYING AND WALKING STRAIGHT INTO ARKHAM ASYLUM, ACCEPTING DEFEAT.

THE MOMENT SHE TURNED CRAZY WASNT FUN. IT WAS HEARTBREAKING. WHY WOULD DC THROW AWAY SOMETHING LIKE THAT?!

Harley Quinn used to be such A FANTASTICLY WRITTEN CHARACTER.

She seemed fun at first glance, but the character developed SO MUCH DEPTH.

AND THEN DC THREW THAT IN THE FUCKING GARBAGE DISPOSAL.

The fact that I am genuinely ASHAMED TO ADVERTISE WHO MY FAVORITE COMIC CHARACTER IS, BECAUSE OF JUST HOW MUCH THE PUBLISHER FUCKED OVER HER CHARACTER

SHOULD SHOW SOME GODDAMN DEPTH TO HOW RIDICULOUS THIS IS

Edit: looking back at this I realized I didnt even mention that in New 52 she fucked Deadshot.

Idk how to fit it in, but it's worth noting.
