Varka's Character Teaser just came out and it's full of lore and loose ends that we're now starting to piece together.

The teaser starts with Varka in full uncle mode with Aino, sharing his expedition "stories" while Aino, in my view, is training Ineffa with that input, maybe to help Varka gather intel on the Abyss calamity.

That's so sweet. We can see how Varka, Aino and Ineffa's relationship was built during his time in Nod Krai.

Then Varka starts from "where they left off" and mentions that he separated from the main group to attend to some business. This business is…

Trade expertise on fighting the Abyss.

And here the drinking contest begins… LMAO!

I'm thrilled at how this ties back to Mavuika's Character Card from almost 2 years ago and seeing these events animated in a Varka's teaser gives real context to his path and choices.

You know they're on another level when spinning halos appear over Varka and Mavuika, outdrinking the strongest drinkers of their nations.

Ineffa updates her database with that info and the fact that Mavuika hits God Tier drinking just because she can keep up with Varka and not the other way around kills me.

"Mavuika? Ohh! You mean the one who competed with me in the Stadium of the Sacred Flame! Hahaha, you'd think an Archon could hold their liquor better than that! Uh… what? They said I got wasted first? No freaking way, not a chance! That day, I was… uh, hang on a sec, now why did I go see the Pyro Archon that day again…?" —Varka's response to Alice's question about the results of the "meeting" in Natlan, as he scratched his head in thought

Aino says that if it had been a dessert eating contest, she would've won and I have zero doubts about that (I know Paimon and Varesa eat a lot and are formidable opponents but I wouldn't say they can handle as much sweets as Aino).

Aino asks Varka to keep sharing his experiences to keep updating Ineffa's database and his expression becomes more serious.

Then we transition to a camp in snowy territory, probably Snezhnaya or its outskirts.

Varka is sitting like half God / half Knight.

He's speaking to none other than CAPITANO!

By this point, their conversation is ending and we don't learn what they talked about.

CAPITANO: "Regarding the Abyssal Calamity in the north… that is all I am able to say." VARKA: "That's more than enough, thanks."

Capitano seems intrigued and insists:

CAPITANO: "Not quite what you were expecting, Knight of 'Boreas'?" VARKA: "I don't put much weight in expectations. Our enemy is ever-changing after all. It pays to be prepared."

It stands out to me how Varka focuses on gathering intel… he values information above all and he's not someone who just charges into battle but prepares with "flexible" strategies.

CAPITANO: "I will not stop a knight from pursuing his own path… but a word of warning… this is a path that cannot be retraced." VARKA: "I wouldn't have it any other way."

Hmm... the Sentinel Knight of Khaenri'ah talking to the Knight of Boreas protector of Mondstadt.

It's like Capitano is somehow showing concern for the path Varka chose but he's not going to stop him.

Perhaps Mavuika played a role in bringing Varka and Capitano together in this encounter.

Aino falls asleep listening to uncle Varka's stories and making beautiful drawings, this time everyone smiling, including herself and Ineffa with some krumkakes.

Ineffa covers her so she doesn't wake up while Varka leaves and we see a parallel between Varka leaving Aino's house and stepping out of Capitano's camp.

I know I've used this word a lot but I'm fascinated by all the context Varka's character rollout is giving us.

I can't wait for Luna V to learn more about his past and understand his choices better.

I never imagined Varka carried such an emotional weight. He always seems to enjoy what he does with a smile and pride but it's clear there's much more behind that.

And every time, his decision to leave Mondstadt for this expedition gains more meaning.

Drifting on the waves of destiny, people like her are just tiny specks of sand, tossed about by the hands of fate.
