Quick Review: ‘The Priory of the Orange Tree’ by Samantha Shannon
This book is the epic fantasy I’ve been looking for: magic, politics, dragons, and quest to save the world. Shannon has created some wonderful, powerful, lovable characters and has done an immense amount of world building. The romances were carefully built and well-balanced, and the friendships are just as well nurtured.
This is an epic fantasy with queer characters front and centre whose emotions are key but not their only personality, and there is no threat of rape!
Genre: Fantasy, Epic Fantasy, LGBTQ+, Romance
Potential Triggers: Body horror (Minor), Fantasy Violence, Plague, Character Death
Do I recommend it?: Yes! I’ve heard a lot of people saying it’s confusing, but if you get past about chapter 8, I promise you start to get the hang of it.
