Having spent the afternoon spent with @studiorincon’s newest yoga teacher trainees, we unpacked all we could relating to chataranga and this gateway pose to most arm balances and handstanding. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀ One thing I will always take time out and share with my students is the importance of healthy form in our chataranga dandasana flows—especially since we tend to do so many of them in vinyasa classes. Finding the right balance with scapular depression, protraction, adduction, and retraction to find optimal strength in this sequence of poses. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀ My arm balancing mantra, borrowed from my incredible teacher @tiffanycruikshank, is: 1) Hug - shoulder heads back 2) Push - the ground away 3) Squeeze - squeeze your hands together 4) Broaden - collar bones 5) Lengthen - lengthen tail toward heels ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀ Give it a try the next time you’re weight bearing on your hands (plank is good place to start) and notice the improved engagement which might lead to a more sustainable hold in plank and eventually chataranga or arm balancing. 💪🏼 ⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 📸: @jeffreyjake.l #yogagirl #yogaplay #outdooryoga #positivevibesonly #yogastrong #yogaforall #ybp #fitfam #yogabypaige #strongwomen #yogateacher #thesweatlife #beagoddess #superattractor #chataranga #yogaevent #ytt #oaklandyoga #yoga #yogamedicine (at Oakland, California) https://www.instagram.com/p/B51bDcUH3-M/?igshid=1t4ehjas623w4
