I remember seeing someone say they don’t ship Chesper because why wouldn’t they just get together in high school. And big disclaimer I don’t give a fuck if you don’t ship Chesper, it literally doesn’t matter to me. I bring this up just cause I think it’s a really shitty reason to not ship them cause there’s a LOT of factors that make it so that they don’t get together in high school. And honestly? They are much more compelling if they get together way later as adults than when they were teenagers

These two becomes friends and then gain crushes on each other, but they never act on them. Cheshire is a foreign exchange student that's expected to return to Wonderland once he finishes school. Not only that but they both are from completely different stories. It's not really worth getting into a relationship that ultimately won't last.

So through the entirety of their school life is just spent yearning for a relationship they know they can’t have. And this feeling stays even when one or both of them get together with other people. You could maybe even have them try to keep in touch through letters because even if they can’t romantically be together, they still value their friendship. But either they drift apart or the closing of almost all entrances to Wonderland(Cheshire being one of the Wonderlandians locked in) makes it so that they no longer talk. Yet that feeling, that yearning remains

That is until Cheshire figures out how to get to Ever After and at some point, they meet up again and all those feelings just come rushing back. But with no obligation to return to Wonderland, no Destiny looming over them threatening to split them apart; they actually act on their feelings. Maybe they hide it for a bit since for sure Ever After society would freak the fuck out if THE Pied Piper and Cheshire Cat were dating but going "We don't even do that anymore why should anyone care if we're dating" just

They're so much interesting like that than just being plain High School Sweethearts like UGH
