It is not often that I run out of words. When the elements of a location, the taste of the food, or the smell of the coffee to the teas takes your sense and relaxes me as the meditation of my yoga experience thinking of gratitude for God’s goodness. Java Jaays does this for me and every one that comes through the doors of their cafe. It was amazing when I walked through the door that “Bunk” remembered my favorite plate, my favorite drink and even my favorite chip, but better yet, he remembered that I am allergic to gluten and nuts. You see, their best feature on their menu is their chicken salad and in house roasted coffee beans, freshly brewed coffees. They have other beverages, pastries and sandwiches offering everyone the breakfast to late afternoon lunch satisfaction. The Salad Review took me to a locally owned coffee shop that is so much more than that!

Today, I got the tuna salad in a lettuce roll up with a side of veggie chips, pickle and an iced chia tea. This chia tea is the only place I get it. I have never had anything like it and I am a coffee/chia addict. It just melts the heart into the soul, relaxing and soothing the day away making you ready for the evening with joy and preparedness. The salads are all made in house and when they run out for the day it is gone, made fresh the next morning for that day. People come through the drive through lining up buying it by the pound for their office along with scones and coffees or teas to share, celebrate with and surprise their coworkers.

Java Jaays is located in the center of Decatur, Alabama’s Sixth Avenue SE right next to our famous Bob Gibson’s BBQ. You can just get you a potato to take home and a pie while your at it, but take your time and sit a while at the cafe, meet the regulars, talk about their time in Africa, working for the same company back in the day, guys discussing the best wireless, or women thinking about taking a hobby. One conversation took me back when I noticed Fleetwood Mac playing over the speaker, a lady dating a guy with a ’57 chevy that was aqua blue and white and his name was Tom, while the lady she was talking to said her guy’s name was Anthony, they both laughed that both guys introduced them to Fleetwood Mac music! Stories, experiences, locals, people from a far to wonderful food, bringing people together to enjoy a bit of afternoon at Java Jaays, Decatur. Y’all Come!
