i say this as someone who has double tapped this screenshot on instagram in the past, but there’s something so irksome about this parricular post that keeps circulating literally every social media platform:

now, she *has* stated that nothing of the sort happened to her. but regardless of whether or not anything overtly related to sexual assault happened to her, i think we can all agree that the way adults behaved around her was absolutely unacceptable and incredibly disgusting.

setting this aside, i think it’s time everyone stop acting as though folks have to be held to a beauty standard every second of every day. soooooo many child stars in particular grow up being sexualized and made to seem mature for their age (especially physically/bodily) by the media. they have publicists manufacturing scandals to keep the public’s eye on them at all times. to sell their brand to the world and keep pulling money from these kids like taffy. and what sells? i think we get the point.

people are not meant to be hollywood levels of attractive. hollywood is fake. it’s all makeup or insane luck or both. it is not a regression or a failing to appear in public without industry glam, nor is it something that requires a story or an excuse. yes, she was a child star for nickalodeon, and yes, she was made to spend a suspicious amount of time with a known pedophile, and yes, she was in some unacceptably weird situations alongside and/or because of him. yes, she was exploited by the industry. but it feels incredibly disgusting to take a paparazzi image of her existing as a regular person in public and to diminish it to subject matter surrounding her past trauma.

we are not privy to information about her private life or her trauma. and we do not get to assume she has “fallen” from some sort of weird societal standard for *checks notes* literally just going outside?

she may be doing great right now. we don’t know.

and the same goes for anyone who has been put in similar positions. the amount of people who think it’s okay to laugh about how celebrities have “let themselves go” is horrible, but so is the amount of people who think the proper response to such statements is “they were harmed as kids”.

let humans dress how they want to be perceived, and fuck all the rest.

When I saw how the third game played out and ended and saw Rebecca's state at the end, I couldn't help but compare her experience as Amanda trapped in those tapes playing the role of a child even when she became a teen and a young adult to the experience of child stars who grew up acting in Disney Channel and Nickelodeon tv shows.

Like, you're basically pushed into this role and we all know how much abuse goes on in Hollywood and the abuse a lot of child stars go through. Rebecca being trapped as Amanda in tapes and essentially being used by Hameln is essentially a more fantastical version of that, the way I see it. Also as far as I've seen, all of the Hameln employees or maybe just a majority of them seem to be white which adds another dark element to the way they treated the Coltons (hell, when the Amanda creature came into the picture, the way the family was talked about by the media and another employee in the security footage seemed real dehumanizing and gross, so no doubt there's racism involved here).

No doubt Rebecca would've wanted to get out of being essentially an actor due to her treatment like the lucky few child stars irl who leave show business or move on from acting into being directors or producers instead. The effects of abuse can be seen in the way Amanda interacts with Wooly throughout the games. Irl, no doubt similar abuses can lead to similar outbursts outside of the set or even substance abuse in their later years (as could be seen in the Olson twins during their early adulthood to give one example from my memory).

I'm not the only one seeing the connection to the child star business in Hollywood in Rebecca's story arc am I?
