[Chivalrous Devotion AU] Reference sheets for the main characters!
Sonic has reached the ripe age of 50 and is now longing for another adventure. One day, he wakes up back in Camelot, but it’s not the same one he left, as no one seems to remember those events other than Sonic; and on top of it all, they all think that he is the lost king Arthur who has simply lost his memories.
Arthur’s most loyal knight Lancelot is the same age as Sonic and a single parent, who is struggling with his sudden loneliness as his son Galahad has recently moved away. Sonic is enthralled by him, since he’s something that Shadow isn’t; mortal. Given their position as king and his bodyguard, the two quickly become close, closer than their titles would suggest in fact.
Now Sonic is struggling with his new duties and expectations – ones that he didn’t really even ask for in the first place. In the midst of it all, he’s trying to keep his newly blossomed relationship a secret, while also adapting to yet another new, unexpected title; stepfather.

Lancelot:
Lancelot is a 50-year-old knight, the most loyal of them all and closest to his king. He is a strict but loving single father to his son, Galahad. He is struggling with his sudden loneliness as his son has recently moved away to live in the castle and focus on his training and studies.
The sudden return of King Arthur is both relieving and scary to Lancelot. Now, he can serve him again to prove his status as the most loyal of the knights. While the king seems to have amnesia, Lancelot is surprised how much Arthur still trusts him. He is willing to do whatever it takes to help him – maybe he likes his king more than a knight like him should...
Galahad:
Sir Galahad is the only child and beloved son of sir Lancelot. He has recently moved to live in Camelot Castle to focus on his training and studies. At the age of 19, he is the youngest of the knights, but his skills and determination make him a dangerous opponent. Everyone believes he will be the greatest knight one day, even greater than his own father. The expectations put on him are a bit of a burden, but he wishes to make his father proud.
As the youngest of the knights, he hasn't had a strong personal connection to king Arthur, especially because of the king's sudden three years of absence. Now the king has finally returned, and Galahad has a chance to prove himself and get to know Arthur better. However, his father and His Majesty seem to be closer than a king and his knight should be. While Galahad is worried his father will get in trouble, he is also confused himself, not sure if he should see Arthur as his king or stepfather. Or both?

Gawain:
From all the current Knights of the Round Table, 52-year-old Gawain has been by King Arthur's side the longest. In his loyalty to the king he's second only to Sir Lancelot. He is as stubborn as he is kind. He protects maidens as well as the poor and unfortunate, and he is a good friend to young knights.
Gawain and Lancelot are very close. They have save each other's lives several times, and an unbreakable bond has formed between them. They always look out for each other, and they're unstoppable when fighting side by side. Lancelot trusts him so much that he was chosen first as one of Galahad's three godparents. Touched by this gesture, Gawain takes great pride in being Sir Galahad's godfather, and has grown quite fond of the young lad.
However, King Arthur's sudden return has changed Lancelot's behavior. Gawain can't help but worry about his dear friend. Lancelot spends less time with his fellow knights, and instead spends every waking moment with the king. Gawain isn't sure how to feel. How will this affect their close friendship?
Percival:
At the young age of 14, Percival approached King Arthur and begged to be knighted. As knights were exclusively men and women usually only got to be knights' ladies, Percival had disguised herself as a boy to be able to reach her biggest dream: becoming a Knight of the Round Table. Arthur decided to give her a chance and let Sir Gawain take her under his wing, with Lancelot often accompanying them as well. Both of them were very impressed by Percival's skills despite her young age, and it didn't take long until she was knighted.
Percival kept her gender a secret for a long time, but later in her twenties other knights found out about it. Percival was worried she wouldn't be allowed to be a knight anymore. While Gawain and Lancelot were surprised that the little lad they had been guiding was a girl instead, they were the first to defend her – they knew her skills the best. To their relief, Arthur noted that only a fool would banish a knight as good as Percival, and he is not a fool.
Feeling forever in debt to the king for sparing her, Percival quickly became one of the most loyal knights, right after Lancelot and Gawain. While she may seem stoic at first, she's friendly towards other knights. When Lancelot eventually became a father, he asked Percival to be a godmother to his son Galahad. Percival agreed, wanting to be a mentor to the young boy in the way Gawain and Lancelot had been to her. She's very fond of him, and is very gentle and lenient towards him as opposed to his father's more strict approach to raising a child.
While Percival has no need to hide her gender anymore, she still enjoys dressing in men's clothes and filling a role that is considered masculine. While she enjoys fighting, she's also very fond of rescuing damsels in distress. And whenever the Lady of the Lake needs the help of a knight, Percival is usually the first one to take on those missions – She's almost as loyal to Nimue as she is to Arthur.
Lamorak:
Sir Lamorak is known for his strength, speed, and fiery temper. He is competitive and rebellious, and sometimes it's difficult to tell if he's loyal to the king or not. However, he is appreciated for his charismatic personality and his habit of challenging other knights and helping them better themselves through the competitions he initiates.
He and Sir Lancelot don't always see eye to eye, especially when their big egos clash often. Still, Lamorak has often helped Lancelot, who does trust him despite the hawk's rebellious attitude. He has even saved Lancelot a couple of times, so he was chosen to be Galahad's third godparent. Lamorak disagrees with Lancelot's strict upbringing. While Percival tries a more gentle approach to raising the humble Galahad, Lamorak often teaches him mischief and how to be more rebellious, much to Lancelot's chagrin.

Hellawes:
Hellawes is a thief and a witch with a love for precious gems, accompanied by a violent raven named Omega who acts as her muscle. As a witch she's skilled with potion making and knows a lot about everyone – even the ones who try to keep their secrets private. While she is selfish and likes teasing others, she isn't a malicious person deep down. She just enjoys watching all the drama in the kingdom unfold.
Elaine:
Elaine of Corbenic is the princess of Corbenic, as well as the mother of Sir Galahad and the ex-wife of Sir Lancelot du Lac. She left before Galahad was born, but returned briefly to bring the newborn to his father. Everything about her seems to be shrouded in mystery: people in Camelot recall her as a nice and social person, but not as someone they knew personally, Galahad never met her, and Lancelot knew her the best yet refuses to talk too much about her.

The Blacksmith:
Maoilios the Blacksmith, known as Smithy, is a 43-year-old two-tailed fox. He's the best blacksmith in Camelot and knows a thing or two about weapons. His knowledge and skills are very appreciated.
That wasn't always the case, though. Smithy was very ostracized during his first years, as everyone seemed to think that a two-tailed fox would bring bad luck and curses. Smithy spent most of his time doing research and building swords, which made Arthur was curious about him. Not wanting to scare the fox away, he approached him in disguise and befriended him, nicknaming him Smithy for his blacksmith skills.
After seeing that Smithy was just a lonely boy living in a burrow all alone, Arthur invited him to live with him. Smithy was very shocked to find out his new friend was King Arthur himself. Arthur worked hard to make sure no one saw Smithy as a bad omen and took good care of the little fox. It didn't take long for the two to form a close brotherly bond. Smithy really looks up to the king and admires him, even after 35 years.
Nimue:
Nimue is known as the Lady of the Lake. She is a magical fairy enchantress, who disguises herself as a hedgehog to be more approachable to mortals. She knows a lot about sacred weapons, and even gifts them to knights she deems worthy. She often has missions for knights, and Sir Percival especially likes to fulfill them. Nimue has grown quite fond of the knightess and looks forward to her visits.
She is also the foster mother of Lancelot, who lost his family and home castle when he was just a little boy. Nimue took him in and taught him how to fight, eventually gifting him the sacred sword made from the stars, Arondight. And when Lancelot had his own son Galahad, Nimue naturally took the role of a grandmother, helping Lancelot take care of the young boy and looking after him when Lancelot had to go on his missions. She also taught Galahad to fight and gifted him a cinquedea which has telekinetic powers. While teaching fighting isn't the most conventional way for parenting, Nimue genuinely cares for both Lancelot and Galahad, and considers them her family.
King Arthur:
King Arthur Pendragon is the legendary king of Camelot and the leader of the Knights of the Round Table, as well as the alternate reality doppelgänger of Sonic the Hedgehog himself. He owns the sacred sword Caliburn which can transform into the legendary Excalibur. He can always be seen carrying its scabbard which was a gift from Nimue. The scabbard protects him, preventing any wound he receives from bleeding.
His looks aren't the only thing that resemble Sonic – he's friendly and laid-back but can be short-tempered, has a strong sense of justice, and treats everyone equally. He's a skilled fighter, a fast runner, and the most powerful knight in the land. While he isn't as fast as Sonic is, Arthur is physically stronger than him.
However, Arthur mysteriously disappeared three years ago, and no one knows what happened to him. The court isn't worried anymore, as Sonic's arrival's timing was just right – they believe Sonic is the lost king. While Sonic must pretend to be Arthur who has lost his memories, he also wonders what even happened to the king. Will he be back one day, and will Sonic be in trouble if he does return?
