If you'd told me a couple of weeks ago that I would willingly be watching three straight hockey bros discuss ... anything ... I would've laughed at you. But I've been utterly charmed by the Empty Netters podcast.

Like, these guys didn't know what they were getting into, and the guy on the right didn't even know it was M/M romance when he started watching it. But they all fell in love with the show (and maybe with Ilya's butt) 😂

About the shower scene in episode 1 of Heated Rivalry:

Dan: So we get a great ass shot here and let’s call it what it is, boys. Ilya is dragging a wagon. Chris: Is he a hockey player? Dan: He better be. This actor is from Texas. That guy’s got a fucking rump on him. Chris: He’s from Texas??? Dan: I think so, yeah. He’s doing a great Russian accent. Ilya dragging a wagon. Massive ass on the guy. That’s a hockey butt. That might be the most accurate hockey thing in the show: Ilya’s ass. Chris: Dude, correct! I couldn’t take my eyes off it! Dan: For those who are unaware, hockey players … we got big butts. And Ilya’s butt is … it’s plaque-worthy. The thing was huge. I loved it. [Goes back to the show without any indication he's talking about the show again]: So then … we start jerking off in the shower. Chris: Yes. Yes we do, Dan. Dan: Sean, at this point, you know what kind of show... Sean: I started to suspect that it wasn’t just about hockey. At this point I thought ‘this is an unusual creative decision for this Mighty Ducks spin-off.’

Also I love that other people are enjoying the Empty Netters guys doing their reviews cause Dan and Chris, along with producer Sean, are legit some of the best hockey podcasters I've ever listened to. For years. Their fan interactions as well. Top notch. Hockey Talk Sunday is amazing. Yes they still talk like hockey frat boys in like a weird not misogynistic, rape culture way, but I don't feel like I would be scared to be trapped in an elevator with them or leave a drink unattended around them.

WhatChaos! Is amazing as well but I only just started listening to them cause of Heated Rivalry, so I'm still getting the feels for them but I think it's gonna be added to my rotation.

disappointed but (because we’re talking about straight white men here) I can’t say I’m surprised. hope hudson, connor and jacob cancel any plans they had to do anything with these guys. and it’s even MORE upsetting cause hudson was clearly so moved by their support and now it’s … this (x)

"they shouldn't need a show to tell them gay people deserve to exist" ok & tell me you've never grown up anywhere else ever. fucking ridiculous. coming from someone in a swing state, & also somewhere w huge hockey culture, u have no idea the type of mass hysteria, brainwashing, & collective mindset people grow up in, ESP those involved in sports. im not saying what they said isnt hurtful, but also u dont fucking know them! you dont know their fathers & their upbringing & their community! you dont know what they grew up hearing until they absorbed the opinions themselves! no one is born hateful, their environment & how they were raised make them this way!

so if a bunch of straight white ex-hockey playing sports podcast men said shit abt blue-haired twitter freaks, & then watched a tv show, & fell in love w these characters, this story, & how tender & wonderful lgbtq+ love can be, fucking sue me for thinking that's a wonderful thing. your purist moral outrage will be the death of us all grow up
