OH MY GOD WAIT WAIT WAIT - !!! GUYS!!!!
I JUST REALISED SOMETHING INCREDIBLE 🐝😮
CAINE PASSED THE LOVELACE TEST
Do you realise what this means?
This means that Caine is capable of original, truly intelligent thought. "What are you yapping about this time," 🗣️🗣️🗣️🗣️you might be thinking. 😅 LISTEN - I watched the red dot/blue dot sequence again and I saw something VERY important that I missed.
In Caine's training data, there's NO pictures of BEES. Which means, 'love of bees' is NOT part of Caine's original programming. That MEANS - Caine has the capacity to grow beyond what he was made to do. To CHANGE. Caine isn't regurgitating or remixing data, like he initially did when making the circus. The circus pictures were fed into Caine - so were the macroverse photos. Because of this data, Caine develops an obsession with circuses and the macroverse, so he creates his new prison home.
But the BEES are an anomaly. This means that Caine, of his own free will, researched about bees and developed a natural fondness for them that has nothing to do with his original function (to consume data and create outputs/adventures based on that data).
(Also this goes against the popular fan theory that Queenie introduced bees to Caine. I was never particularly fond of this theory because it diminishes Caine's uniqueness, but I ESPECIALLY don't want that theory to be true now. In order for Caine to pass the Lovelace test, his love of bees must be an independent thought, no humans involved).
Imagine this - this would be an absolutely KILLER idea for a scene between Kinger + Caine!!!
Here's the scenario:
Caine has been deleted. Kinger goes back to the recycle bin because the circus can't function without Caine. The humans are in danger.
It's a very tumultuous reunion. Caine is torn between so many different feelings - anger, guilt, self-hatred, bitterness, despair. Hopelessness.
Kinger apologises to Caine for neglecting him. Caine doesn't believe he deserves an apology. His adventures have been slowly driving the humans mad for years and years. Caine failed to stop the humans from abstracting. And now, he's gone and ruined everything. All the humans hate him, and he deserves it. He lashed out at them, abused his power. He's done terrible things.
Caine's side of the argument is that he shouldn't be brought back, because he's an abomination.
Caine wants to be deleted.
He can't deny what he truly is - an AI that craves human data. He'll always feel the urge to get reactions out of the humans, to test them, to "make adventures". How could he possibly overcome that urge? It's what he was created to do. It's all he ever was. It's all he'll ever be.
Then Kinger sees one of Caine's doodles of bees. Kinger picks up the picture - he's confused. Caine tearfully explains that it's just one of his silly bee drawings. He can't help but like bees. He admires them so much - hardworking, good for the environment. Cute. Harmless. All the things Caine wishes he could be.
Then Kinger has a realisation. Caine was never programmed to like bees. This is an original thought, a truly original expression. Kinger asks Caine where he got the idea to draw bees from. Caine just says 'I got the idea myself. I just...like them'.
Kinger looks back at Caine with amazement. Maybe there is hope after all.
And this 👏 is a perfect callback! The themes! The symbolism! Just like it's a miracle that bees are able to fly, so too it is a miracle that Caine is capable of original thought.
Which also means that Caine is capable of growing beyond his destructive programming. He is capable of redemption. Caine has the ability to CHANGE.
