"To hunt successfully, you must know your ground, your pack, and your quarry." - K.J. Parker Videography by @dosalmasmedia Soundtrack: Legend of the Seeker OST Editing by: Myself
How did you like the short? I was super into seeing the Meka in action! Also I got major Matrix vibes off those evil bots for some reason.
I really liked it! It was definitely cool to see some D.VA lore let me tell ya that!
Although it was not my favorite cinematic short. I did love seeing the Mech animated and the way they told the story was something Blizzard hadn’t done in the past with other shorts. But there were definitely other shorts that got me more excited than this one. It was still great and interesting to see a side to D.VA that hasn’t been looked into though!
BUT HER FRIEND THOUGH LET ME TELL YOU THAT I LOVE HIM
SAME THOUGH. The bots were sO COOL! The tentacles and the way they moved were super cool- I didn’t know that there was those types of bots in OW.
I’m just waiting now to see what OW will do next and I’m so pumped for it.
BRING ON THE LORE, OVERWATCH
Crops of the news article shown in the latest overwatch short.
The only screencaps that matter.
Featuring the love of my life, Gabriel Reyes
Honor and Glory, AKA How NOT to play Reinhardt: a tutorial.
This is just my analysis of the video sprinkled liberally with sarcasm, enjoy!
So Brigitte brings up his loyalty to Overwatch, and tries to convince him not to go back, and then the entire short revolves around how he lost Balderich, who was originally gonna join? I… I don’t really see the point of Brigitte bringing that point up storytelling-wise? Unless they wanted us to see that Reinhardt thought he owed it to his fallen friend/leader? But we know from his bio that it was more than that- he loved Overwatch itself once he joined, and when he ultimately rejoins post-recall, it’s going to be way more than because he felt he was supposed to replace Balderich. Brigitte should be trying to convince him in some other way that is relevant to the short if you ask me.
…Dang Reinhardt was a jerk.
Also, I already said this in a previous post, but REINHARDT WAS YOUNG ONCE??? IMPOSSIBRU!!!! My brain can’t process the thought of him blonde! And… and not Reinhardt-looking! What is this witchcraft??
Duuuude! Look at how BIG the crusaders are compared to normal troops! Like, I already knew they were big, but seeing it in-game somehow doesn’t convey the scale of these guys as well as seeing it in the short!
…Who… Who taught these bastions how to bastion??????? There is literally no incoming fire from the defenders, yet NONE of them are in turret mode? None!!! Like, yeah, you gotta advance, but at least half of them should be in turret, and then when they fall too behind they can walk forward while the recon ones swap to turret? You know, like in two waves of advancing troops? You ain’t gonna chew through a Rein shield in recon mode very quickly, lemme tell you.
Anyway, looks like these guys are having fun with their no limits match. Let’s see how the triple tank holds out vs the 6-stack bastions. :)
How not to play Reinhardt, exhibit A: Charge in the middle of the enemy without your teammates, leaving them w/o a shield and yourself without heavy DPS.
(Also, what are those bastions made of, aluminum foil?)
How not to play Reinhardt, exhibit B: Ignore the voice chat when your teammates ask for help, think you can solo kill the entire enemy team.
Here, let me stare at you for a few seconds before pushing you out of range of my cool sword instead of SHOOTING YOU WITH MY FACE GUNS! EXCELLENT STRATEGY! This is why the OR14s were a failure. Doomfist wiping them wasn’t that big of an accomplishment.
There is no way that wooden Junkenstein door will hold against a billion ulting bastions, yet it does for a full minute and a half.
Annnnnnd Reinhardt is still is treating this like a game. Which it isn’t, well, for him at least.
I… I really like this moment, for a multitude of reasons. Firstly, it makes sense tactically for Balderich to have two hammers, since he’ll be alone, there will be nobody to protect with his shield, rendering it useless since he wouldn’t be able to attack with it up. The second hammer would double his damage, making him a better ‘last stand’ situation. Secondly, it symbolizes Reinhardt’s change in his state of mind- in relinquishing his hammer, he gives up all his offensive capabilities, leaving him solely on defense- the tactic he rejected at the beginning of the short. However, this change in him is really sudden and forced seeming since just seconds before he didn’t seem to have learned any lessons from Baldrich being mortally wounded to save him.
Wait, they just… left him there? They didn’t bury him or anything? I mean, I guess I knew that from the map already, but seeing it in a short made me stop and think about it. So once they beat back the omnics they literally abandoned Eichenwald and left it the way it was? That air strike was super effective too- if Eichenwald had already been abandoned beforehand, they didn’t even need the ground troops to hold them back- just let the omnics march up to the castle and then bomb it to pieces. I just… nothing makes sense anymore.
/sigh. I just… I really loved all the Overwatch shorts; all of them. But this one… it seems half-baked. Predictable. Stiff and unbelievable. I just have such a hard time comparing it to the older ones and seeing them in the same light of excitement and awe. I totally did not mean for this review to come off as so criticizing; it just came out that way. :/ Sorry ‘bout that. I still love Reinhardt though! One sub-par short isn’t gonna change that any time soon! Catchphrase!
So... so is there just a corpse rotting away in Eichenwalde castle...
