Teachers: Are you tired of that same museum trip every year? Take your class off campus and let Peak handle the details.
I’m pretty sure my Grade 10 year was an overall fever dream. There were so many things that went wrong that year.
- On a trip, my cabin woke up early to surprise our teacher and while everyone danced around the room in their weirdest clothes, I bobbed my head in the center with a leopard hat on and a flashlight in my mouth
- That same trip, the kid I shared the bed with for the evening tugged the blankets away from me so I wrestled the kid and threw them off the bed, forcing them to sleep on the floor. Their payback was not waking me up in the morning, causing me to be late for the bus and not getting breakfast
- My teacher told us about how he was a hot yoga instructor and a pizza delivery guy, gave us a 20 page essay on how Jesus Christ was a zombie, and wore Hello Kitty Band Aids every single day the entire year
- We did a mock trial and had a real judge come in but none of us knew what we were doing, as we never learned about objections and the victim forgot to memorize her story. Adding to the mess, our teacher invited the principal. To make it worse, instead of saying HMV store, a kid said HIV store and the principal completely lost it. The judge had to take a minor break before coming back and continuing

Book a class trip to Barcelona for your students
Being a teacher is challenging, because you have to keep your students focused all the time, and tries to make them understand the subject you are teaching. If you are teaching Spanish literature or a subject related to Spain, then you should take into consideration organizing a class trip to Barcelona for your students. Being there will allow them to understand better the culture of this wonderful Mediterranean country. Field trips offer students educational experiences from which they learn many things, and sometimes it can raise them the interest to a certain subject, so if you had students that were not interested in studying Spanish literature they might want to start reading Don Quixote at the very moment of their return. When you take them in a class trip to Barcelona, you can focus on seeing the nature centers, government agencies, or science museums.
You might already know that students love trips, and one in Spain will make them get more interested in learning new things about it. Klassresor, how it they are called in Sweden offer students real-world experiences. These experiences will enhance and illustrate them the information taught by your courses. Being in a trip does not mean that they cannot learn, actually field trips allow them to learn outside the classroom. They can understand better some aspects of a certain subject, or they can add some extra information at one learnt already. Barcelona is a city that provides many different educational facilities, so they can learn more in an interactive manner. For example, some museums allow students to touch some items, and do not forget that they have the opportunity to browse a truly Spanish library, so they might fall in love with one of the books found there. Nature centers allow them to understand the natural life from a Mediterranean country, so they might will be able to see why some specific characters behaved in a certain way.
You have the possibility to keep them training or as it is called in Sweden träningsläger. A training is a break in their routine, is not the same with a classroom course, so they will enjoy finding some specific aspects of the Spanish culture, while having the opportunity to test it. In addition, you might know that different children have different ways of learning, so you will be amazed to see how the student you did not manage to make understand why Don Quixote behaved in that way now is able to interpret his acts. An important advantage for children when going in a field trip is that they have the opportunity to bond. These trips bring students together and while this one you can design some team-building activities. Yes, planning such a trip might take an incredible amount of time, but only thinking of the amazing things your students will be able to learn, makes it worth.

Rome? Paris? Barcelona? Amsterdam? Where will we go this weekend? Traveling from country to country in Europe is a piece of cake. In under three hours one could be in a completely different place, so deciding where to go for our second weekend was not as easy. Most Study Abroad students take the opportunity to see other places on the weekend, as our classes have off on Fridays -- we can even leave on Thursday afternoon to spend an extra full day having new adventures.
My friends and I first thought about Rome, which was a must for any trip to Italy. Many of my classmates traveled together to Italy’s capital this weekend. I mean who wouldn’t want to meet an Italian hottie and become an international pop sensation (shout out to the Lizzy Mcguire movie, “Sing to me Paolo!”). But we decided to go against the common consensus and choose another place.
Paris and Barcelona came briefly to mind because both are the most iconic cities in Europe and we were so close to booking tickets, until my roommate mentioned Amsterdam. Amsterdam is a city I have always wanted to visit for many reasons. On our flight from JFK to Venice, we had a layover in Amsterdam and all I wanted to do was leave the airport and look around, but alas we couldn’t, not enough time. After hours of contemplating several of us went ahead and booked a flight to Amsterdam for the weekend. Ciao for now Italy, I’ll be back to see your beautiful self soon.
HISTORY COMES ALIVE
Professor Stanislao Pugliese (History) makes sure his students see many historical Venetian sights as they travel this city to explore together -- here are Jessica Reynolds, Shannon Mitchell, Kaitty Gorsky, Taylor Muller, Robert Hess, and Justin Kadan at St.Mark’s Cathedral and on the roof of the Cathedral, at La Fenice Opera House, at Scala del Bovolo, and at the chic Cafe Florian, as Venetian history comes alive!
A SPECIAL TREAT
On Thursday, Professors Maria Fixell (Italian) and Pellegrino D’Acierno (Comp Lit) invited their students to a special lunch at Al Bacareto, an osteria that serves amazing cicchetti (similar to tapas or mezzo). Artichokes, shrimp, polpetti, arancini, zucchini -- tutti DELIZIOSI!
