Guide to finding a Role and Resonance
WORLDVIEW
What do they expect from their reality? -> Optimistic
Danny was always assured in himself since episode 1 what his powers are for. Even if he has failed many times and dropped a lot of beakers, he still chooses to bounce back up and become the hero everyone needs. He delights often also in puns and jokes even at a horrible situation. Even when a ghost attacks, his first instinct is to tell a joke.
ROLE
1. Motivation of Actions
Why do they act? -> Altruist
Danny cares about his friends and family. He is protective of the citizens of Amity Park and even has compassion for his enemies when he sees that they are as human as they come. An example of this is when he decides to help Valerie with her mascot gig.
2. Momentum of Actions
Where does their momentum come from? -> Passive
Danny is largely reactive. He would prefer to live as a normal teenager, but ghost attacks, Vlad’s manipulations, and external pressures constantly force him to respond. His hero work is usually event-driven rather than self-initiated.
3. Mobility of Actions
What fuels and sustains their actions? -> Extrovert
Danny gains energy from interacting with his friends and others. He often externalizes how he feels and his emotional struggles often surface through interaction rather than isolation. He asks his friends for help whenever he can and gains stability when he is not alone.
RESONANCE
1. Preferred Environment
What kind of world do they thrive in? -> Systematic
Danny wants normalcy, stability and consistency in his environment but he often gets thrown into the fires of chaos thanks to the ghosts that constantly invade his town. He would rather preserve his routines and prevent total disorder. This is especially clear when Tucker helped Danny organize his daily schedule.
2. Preferred Judgement
How do they evaluate situations? -> Emotion
Danny cares deeply for his family and responds badly to people who will take advantage of said emotions. This is why he has a nemesis in Vlad because Vlad invades his family life and believes that he can get what he wants from his family, especially Danny and Maddie. Spectra also hits Danny at his emotional core when she calls him a freak who can't be a normal kid anymore.
3. Preferred Understanding
How does reality become meaningful to them? -> Physical
Danny does things through action rather than wonder about the philosophical implications of it. Samples of this is when Ghost Writer's Christmas book lands into Danny's hands and Danny's first instinct is to burn the book rather than think of the natural consequence of his action would do. Another example is when he split his ghost half and his human half and both halves would act physically, whether it was saving the day or relaxing without thinking of the consequences.
INTEGRATION
How do they handle perspectives that challenge their natural Resonance? -> Integrated or Fragmented
Danny has always been able to learn to adapt and face the challenges of each ghost that come through the portal. He tries his best to get his balance his school life, his ghostly career and his personal life.
In the timeline where Danny is evil, he is heavily fragmented as he lost his family and wanted to remove his ghost half as his ghostly self represented the chaos and unpredictability within himself.
INVERSE SELF: (P)EAI
(Pessmistic)Egoist-Active-Introvert
A soft example of this is Danny hiding his identity from his parents because he fears that he won't be accepted by them. He runs away from them and most of the humor of the show comes from Danny finding new ways to hide his identity from his parents.
OVERVIEW:
Danny is an optimistic but often other-focused teen who is repeatedly pulled into chaos. He wants normalcy, yet rises to protect others when needed. His extroverted, emotionally-driven, physical approach keeps him grounded, while his inverse helps him mature into a more self-protective and cautious hero.
