Also a thing that hurt me about the Usopp vs Luffy is that he went Weapons Free now. Not against Crocodile. Not against Enel. Not against the Frankies. Against his own captain. His own people.

Once I said (to my OP friend) that if I were in the crew, I would have a contingency plan for every crew member if I were Usopp, kinda like Batman having one for everyone he meets.

And Usopp went all Weapons Free and using different techniques (even self destructive ones like the Impact Dial) just to fight against Luffy. I get he felt like if they were going to leave the Going Merry behind for being useless, next useless crewmate was him. And he always felt worthless and useless compared to Nami constantly guiding and mapping their routes, Sanji always cooking + fighter, Zoro always saving their guts, Luffy fighting the bigger fishes, Chopper healing them and Robin being another Devil Fruit User + archaeologist and kinda the book smartest person in the group.

I feel like this fight was between him defending his pride and view and show in a way that he's still useful and resourceful, even if he didn't do it with that purpose. He was ready to defend another Nakama against his own captain, and if Luffy weren't a Devil Fruit User, he wouldn't have made it alive. Usopp was aiming to kill. Used all his tricks and traps. If he weren't that human character and he wasn't focused on defending his and Going Merry's honor, I could say that's his way of saying "I know how to deal with you. I know how to kill you."
