i fell ill this week, so i made myself a spell jar... that you can eat!
quick note: practice food-safety! do not consume if there's fuzzy growth, putrid/rotten smells, mushy or slimey veggies.
ingredients
honey (healing, abundance, cleansing)
garlic (warding off illness)
dried rosemary (cleansing, purifying)
this jar has both magical and microbial benefits that can help with common colds.
skin your garlic and slice them in half, then add the rest of your ingredients. you can also add other herbs (my personal favorites are oregano and thyme). close the lid shut and keep it in a cool place to ferment, away from sunlight. make sure that the jar you use is clean and sanitized.
after a week, you can eat the garlic on its own or use the mix to add it to your toast for a sweet and savory flavor. however, i suggest allowing it to ferment for more than a month (~6 months best for the garlic pungence to mellow).
supporting spells. draw a sigil/rune on a piece of paper and stick it under the jar or over it to "seal" its properties until they're ready to consume. when the jar is closed shut, you may use incense to bless the spell by hovering it outside the jar (not inside). you can place the jar on your dedicated altar or just your countertop.
garlic fermented in honey is something my paternal grandma taught me when she visited from the province. she brings a smaller jar with her for travels and eats a clove of garlic daily for better immune system and health overall. i never witnessed her getting sick.
an alternative to this is pickled garlic (use white vinegar instead of honey) – this is something i casually snack on. after a month or two, the garlic will lose its intensity and even form a slightly sweet flavor. i practice kharis by adding new garlic cloves whenever i take them out.
feel free to follow this spell or add your own twist to it ♡
I decided to create it during the new moon in Taurus during Aries season. On top of it, I wanted to do it while the moon was rising, so I set myself up for the spell to be performed at 6:04EST. Rather than acknowledge any potential distractions, I focused on the grounding energies of the Taurus sign to help tether me to this moment of creation.
Using a stick of incense, I cleansed all of the tools/Ingredients being used in this spell - jar, salt, water, essential oil. I did two cycles of cleansing moving the stick in a clockwise direction. The goal is for the energy of this bottle to be cleansing. I did one cycle of cleansing moving the stick in a counter/anti-clockwise direction; this was to focus on banishing negativity when the jar is uncovered. Because the jar was filled with smoke during these cleansings, I closed the cycles by pushing the stagnation out of the bottle using my breath, putting my own lifeforce and energy into this spell.
After this cleanse, my jar was now a true vessel to hold and carry this spell and its contents. I added salt with the intention of it absorbing negativity and cleansing energies as they enter or leave the front door of the house. I added the water with the intention that it will continue to do what it naturally does: move unabashedly. It will contain all that enters it. It will carry away all that is with it when the time comes to redo it. Finally, I added the Sweet Orange essential oil to sweeten dispositions (and it smells really good and clean!).
When it was all done, I put the cork on and shook with the intention of truly helping the salt dissolve and the mix truly come together. I anointed myself with it before placing it on a floral coaster I crocheted years ago. It adds to the aesthetic and protects the table until the condensation on the jar goes away.
I will be discarding the contents of the jar down a drain (sink or toilet) every full and new moon. This will dispose of the spell, allowing for the water to be treated and filtered for new use. I will be remaking the jar every full and new moon as well.
It is 2026 and we could all use any little help we can get when it comes to keeping our spirits and energies up. Why not this simple cleansing jar?
: I'd like to preface this by saying that I am not a 'conventional' witch. I have to keep my practice very low-key, and I don't have access to very many herbs or crystals. All of my spells use items that can be found in a regular home, or the items have a specific requirement such as 'something you associate with [xyz] Deity'. I don't tend to use things like herbs or crystals in my magical work, and if I do, it's most likely leaning more towards 'formal', 'important' or 'ritual' than 'spell'. I aim to make spells that every witch can use, no matter their situation.
» ․ ❓ !! ˎˊ˗ What is this spell for?
This is a spell for protection, cleansing and blessing. It is meant to identify and remove hostile and negative energy and create a neutral or positive space for your magical working.
I name the spells so that I can navigate my spells better, you do not have to call them by this name.
The root version of the spell is called 'Purificatela', from the Latin word 'purificatio' ('cleansing') and 'tutela' ('protection').
» ․ 🪄 !! ˎˊ˗ What items do you need?
[Required]
~ Anything white | White is associated with purity and cleansing. This can be anything, from a kitchen towel to a blank piece of paper.
~ Anything black | Black is associated with banishing negative or hostile energies. Again, this can be anything.
~ Anything that can light up | Can be a flashlight, a phone light, a candle, LEDs
[Optional]
~ Anything you associate with your Deity or spirit | Can be something colored with a color you associate with Them, a statue of them, a sigil, literally anything
» ․ 🕯️ !! ˎˊ˗ What to do?
[Version 1 - 'Purificatela Incluna']
: 'Purificatela' from the Latin 'purificatio' ('cleansing') and 'tutela' ('protection'). As well as 'incluna' from the Latin 'inclusus' ('enclosed') and 'luna' ('moon'). This version of the spell is for an enclosed area and is charged by moon energy.
1. Wait till nighttime, or any point in the day when you can see the moon in the sky.
2. Go into the room that you want protected and cleansed, close all doors and windows and turn of all the lights.
3. Place your white object directly beside your black object. Your light should be off at this point, place it in front of both of your objects. [If you have an object associated with your Deity, place it at the very front of the object group, so that your light is between your colored objects and the object associated with your Deity]
4. Say or think (some variation of), "Moon, I beg, protect my space. I ask that you cleanse and bless this place." [If you have a Deity, feel free to add (some variation of), "[Deity name], I beg that you will protect me and my space. You Gods of protection, cleansing and home, I pray that you protect me and never leave me alone]
5. Turn on your light to symbolize moonlight and cleansing.
6. Say or think (some variation of), "Let my energy fill the room, by earth, water, air, flame, sun and moon."
7. Thank the moon [If you involved Deities and/or believe in Deities that are associated with the moon, thank them too]
8. Turn off the light to symbolize the enveloping power of the moon and the night.
9. Respectfully clean up your space, put away your items and turn the room lights back on. [If you feel as if you need a more tangible closing, feel free to say or think (some variation of), "The spell is finished, the effect is done, stay in motion, through the moon and sun" as or before you clean up.]
[Version 2 - 'Purificatela Inclusol']
: 'Purificatela' from the Latin 'purificatio' ('cleansing') and 'tutela' ('protection'). As well as 'incluna' from the Latin 'inclusus' ('enclosed') and 'sol' ('sun'). This version of the spell is for an enclosed area and is charged by sun energy.
1. This version is casted during the daytime.
2. Go into the room you want protected and cleansed, and if you have windows, uncover all of them to let natural light in.
3. Place your white object directly beside your black object. Your light should be on at this point, place it in front of both of your objects. [If you have an object associated with your Deity, place it at the very front of the object group, so that your light is between your colored objects and the object associated with your Deity]
4. Say of think (some variation of), "Sun, I beg, make me shielded and pure, bless this place and make it secure." [If you have a Deity, feel free to add (some variation of), "[Deity name], I beg that you will protect me and my space. You Gods of protection, cleansing and home, I pray that you protect me and never leave me alone]
5. Turn off your light to symbolize negative and hostile leaving the area.
6. Say or think (some variation of), "Let my energy fill the room, by earth, water, air, flame, sun and moon."
7. Thank the sun [If you involved Deities and/or believe in Deities that are associated with the sun, thank them too]
8. Turn on the light to symbolize the shining power of the sun and the day, blazing through every pain and agony.
9. Respectfully clean up your space, put away your items and turn the lights off. [If you feel as if you need a more tangible closing, feel free to say or think (some variation of), "The spell is finished, the effect is done, stay in motion, through the moon and sun" as or before you clean up.]
I hope this is useful for all you witches! Feel free to use this at any time, and I hope that this isn't too inaccessible.
Khaire, may your path be laden with protection, and have a wonderous day!
— a bath ritual to cleanse yourself & your energies for all the moon witches out there!
✧ Best times :
Moon phase — Any waning moon, new moon
Day of week — Monday
Time of day — Night/late evening
Neither of these are necessary! I personally like to align my spells/rituals with the phase of the moon, but that is not the case in everyone’s practice. I don’t align my craft with the days of the week, but I know others do, which is why it’s here!
✧ Ingredients :
Bath salts
Full moon water
Bath bomb or bubbles
Candles — white, any size
Crystals — selenite, moonstone, clear quartz
✧ Instructions :
Fill your tub with water, add in your bath salts, moon water, and bath bomb or bubbles! Place your crystals and candles around the tub whichever way you’d like. Make sure any not water safe crystals, like selenite, are in a spot where they can’t be hit by water!!!
Scoop and pour water over different parts of your body, imagine any negative energies washing away! As you do this, speak positive things into the water, imagine yourself being cleansed!! As you drain the water imagine any negativity going down the drain!
I also recommend listening to calming or peaceful music, but you can also watch a soothing comfort show if that’s more your style!
After getting out put on some comfortable clothes and allow yourself to relax and just feel clean!
Hi, hope you're doing well! I'm doing a banishing soon, and I'm planning on calling on selene and apollo to help, and i was wondering if you know any epithets for them that may be good to use in this scenario
i will be using the english words for these epithets to make them more accessible, as i believe the gods can recognize these honorifics in any language, and knowing what you are saying connects you to it further. as always, please don’t use me as your only source! :D
cleansing/banishing epithets i use for for Selene include: radiant, all-shining, and foe of strife— foe of strife is my favorite, painting Her as a warrior against our worries (from Her orphic hymn). radiance works for banishing, given the way Her light banishes the dark of the night.
cleansing/banishing epithets i use for for Apollo include: averter of evil, averter of harm, hunter, archer, sacred healer, he who shoots from afar, he whose arrow never misses, light-bringer, and radiant one
a UPG epithet i use for them both (and Helios as well) is The Purifier. also, in requests for protection i’ll occasionally call them ‘mother’ or ‘father’ in hopes to stir up a paternal/maternal aspect of their protection but that’s not historically founded!

The last day of the month is my favorite time to do a spiritual and energetic cleansing of my home. As a hearth witch, my home is my temple. I love using the end of the month to clean out all the energetic muck and build-up from the past month before casting a reset spell on the first day of the following month. Here are some of the things I like to do:
Floor Cleansing
🧹 Why? Well, there are physical stains, dirt, crumbs, stray leaves, dust, etc. that accumulate on the floor. I think of any arguments, bad days, unlucky moments, or anything else that’s happened in the past month that got me down. That energy tends to linger and build up around my home too. I like to regularly dust and wipe off shelves, counters, tables, and other surfaces whenever possible. However, I focus my ritual cleansing on the floor after all the surfaces above ground have been wiped clean.
This ritual is a modified version of this spell by Nancy Bennett. Note: this ritual is specifically for hard/wood floors. I don’t have carpet in my home, so modify as you see fit for your home.
🧹Ingredients and tools: broom, mop, bucket, soap/floor safe cleaner.
Recently, I like using a deep, forest-y scented floor safe soap such as pine, fir, spruce, or balsam. These often carry mundane properties of antibacterial properties, but also carry magical properties of purification, repelling negativity, and attracting abundance. I’ll switch it up depending on the season and - simply - what kind of scents I want to smell! For example, lemon, lavender, or rosemary, which also carry magical properties of cleansing and purification. Alternatively, instead of soap you can use distilled water and essential oil.
🧹Steps
Dry sweep your home counterclockwise to banish stagnant, leftover, negative energy. While sweeping chant: “Hestia of Hearth and Home, Bless this space I call my own, Make my household trouble-free, Dearest Hestia make it be!”
Sweep all the collected dust and dirt outside. I like to put a lot of emotion into this action, really telling all the negativity of the past month to GTFO of my house.
Prepare your wet mop solution.
Mop your home in the same counterclockwise direction, continuing your focus on banishing the stagnant, the chaos, the negative, everything that does not serve or bring fulfillment to your life. Repeat the chant from step 1.
Safely dispose of the dirty mop water.
Optional: light a candle or incense to “seal” the spell when you are done.
Door Cleansing
🧽Why? The doorway is literally the primary entrance to my home - my temple and sacred space. I’m bringing in all my mental, emotional, and spiritual baggage through the door. This builds up over time. It’s also good practice to regularly renew/recharge protective wards around doorways to prevent baneful spirits etc from entering the home.
I do this spell on every doorway that leads to the outside. This spell is a modification of spells by Jennie Blonde in Hearth and Home Witchcraft and Judika Ilas in Protective Spells.
🧽Ingredients and tools: a clean cloth, any protective herbs you like.
I tend to use basil or rosemary as I like the scent. These are also herbs commonly used for protection and cleansing as well. When choosing a cloth to clean with, pick a color that matches any correspondences you want to bring to your home (e.g. peace, prosperity, protection, etc.)
🧽 Steps
Safely boil some water and steep your herbs in the hot water the same way you would brew a tea. I will often use a mug or small cauldron for this as you don’t need a ton of the mixture.
Take mixture and cloth outside to any/all doors that leads you into your home.
Dip cloth in the mixture, and working from the center of the door out, wipe and visualize any toxic or negative energies being cleaned away and building a protective shield around your doorway.
You can add a protective chant while washing the door such as “Protect all those who come this way, this wash keeps all harm away.”
Drink some water if you’d like. Imagine the water purifying you from the inside.
Close your eyes. Take slow, deep breaths in the nose and out of your mouth. With each breath, imagine positive energy entering through your nose, and negative clutter exiting the mouth.
Now with the visualizations, say this chant to yourself:
I cleanse myself from head to toe,
I cleanse myself,
Go, go, go.
I attract the light
And darkness flees.
Now, without it,
I am free!
You may tweak the cleansing poem if you’d like to a different verbiage that relaxes you more in some way. As long as you feel lighter by the end of it, you have accomplished the goal!
