Every time I encounter some piece of fanfiction or some meta post trashing Scott for not trusting Derek or being needlessly hostile, I flashback to Co-Captain (1x10).

Scott: I'm not helping you kill people. Peter: Well, I don't want to kill all of them. Just the responsible ones. And that doesn't have to include - Derek: Allison. Scott: You're on his side? Are you forgetting the part where he killed your sister? Derek: It was a mistake. Scott: What? Derek: It happens.

Now, we know how that scene ends, with Scott writhing on the floor experiencing the memories of being burned alive along with six years of locked-in syndrome, with Derek scampering off to go murder Jackson.

Think about this -- "It happens." He said he came back to find her killer. Why should Scott listen to anything that ever comes out of Derek Hale's mouth?

And this fandom has the unmitigated audacity to think that Scott is a terrible character for not placing his faith in Derek Hale. The man who explained that the alpha (that's Peter) was going to either force him to kill with him or he was going to kill him. The man that promised that if Scott helped him find the alpha, he'd let Scott kill the alpha in order to be "cured." This is the man that Scott should believe in and that Scott is irresponsible for not immediately telling Derek about Gerard's cancer and his plan to keep Gerard from becoming a werewolf.

Not to mention, they ignore the fact that the very next episode, Scott refused to let Derek be killed by the argents, tried to talk to Derek even after Derek slashed him up for even talking with Boyd, and didn't give Gerard anything about Derek's secret lair -- which he knew!

I'm actually beginning to be wooed by members of the fandom that Scott should have listened to Stiles when he argued that Derek should die.
