Because of the nature of the exercise, people tend to think about deadlifting as โpicking upโ a barbell. This often leads to lifters overusing their arms or their back and taking their legs out of the equation. - What elicits a much stronger effect; however, is to think about it in a different way. Instead, get your hips slightly lower, keep your chest up, grip tight with long arms and then from there, maintain this alignment as you โpushโ the floor away from you using your lower body. Treating your deadlifts as a โpushโ rather than a โpullโ will help you to wedge yourself between the floor and the barbell, and put you in a much better leverage position to actually lift the bar. - Hopefully this little tip helps you out on your next deadlift day!
