What are some of your favorite/more obscure LoZ head-canons?

Fair warning: I like to ramble. So this turned out to be pretty long lol. Most of these I came up with myself when playing the games or when researching/thinking about them. A theory or two snuck into this list as well. Here they are:

Link’s Crimson loftwing in SS is named Ruby. I see a lot of people referring to him as Crimson, but guys, Sky isn’t that uncreative. He has artistic talent, he wood carves and paints, he isn’t going to name his crimson loftwing Crimson! I mean, it is a good name, and he was a child when he first met him, but I feel like he’d have more originality than that. Hence the name Ruby: simple enough for child, but something a bit more original than the name of the type of loftwing.

Continuing off of that, I believe that Zelda’s own loftwing is also male. I actually remember the game referring to her bird as “he” in like one line of dialogue that’s easy to miss, but I also think this because of how brightly colored he is, and with birds, brightly colored usually means male. Also I think that the two loftwings are the Zelink wingmen. ;)

OK, this is more of a theory, but I believe that Hylia is dead—at least for most of the games. Basically, it boils down to Hylia being completely absent in all but three games (that I know of), and said games being at the very start and at the very end/in a completely different timeline. Like she isn’t dead dead because she’s a goddess, but she’s also not the highest tier of God in Zelda lore—that’s the Golden Three—And it’s said that she gave up her in mortality, so I think she’s as dead as a god like her can get.

Steering away from theories, I like to think that Wind Waker Link learns how to speak ancient Hylian from either the various deities he meets or from the King of Red Lions (depending on if this is during or after his first adventure). this comes from the fact that in hero mode, all ancient Hylian speech and text is translated so you can read it.

Additionally, I like to think that Wind gives the KoRL a nickname because the boat only gives his title and not a name until the reveal happens. Some options I’ve been debating include: Redy, Redgled, kayak (starts off maybe as a tease for him not having a sail at the start of the game), Mr. Lion, Mr. L.R., Ly, Red, etc…

Wind and Spirit Tracks Link don’t have the hero’s spirit—at least not the original one. I really like this headcanon that I’ve seen where Wind has burn marks on his hand from wielding the master sword without the original hero’s spirit.

Forgot who came up with this one but it’s from a funny comic about TotK—basically, Misko the fashion thief stole all of links clothes at the start of TotK when he was missing, and that’s why he doesn’t have anymore and why some are in caves lol.

Twilight Princess Link has autism— autistic link isn’t exactly uncommon, but the reason why I headcanon TP Link in particular as autistic is because it actually plays into his character arc and the themes surrounding that, which is something I noticed when I replayed the game recently. Basically, there’s a lot of symbolism of Link being caught in between two worlds, not quite fitting in anywhere, heck even his house is in between his home village and the rest of Hyrule (literally a different loading zone, which doesn’t paint a very nice picture of his relationship with the town because it kind of paints him as a social outcast, though he does seem to have a good reputation and stuff it’s just interesting). Also him growing up as the only Hylian in Ordon. Basically, it just fits thematically.

Link has ADHD—specifically BotW/TotK and especially Skyward Sword. His entire characterization in SS just fits so well with ADHD, It’s unreal—even his dialogue options all scream ADHD. I’ve had this head canon for a while, but the stuff about the dialogue options was pointed out to me by @/livmightlive in a post they made. They explained more in their post.

Basically my entire characterization of the Cadence of Hyrule Link (TLDR: making him incredibly antisocial). I guess this isn’t exactly a headcanon, more so an AU kinda, but the basic underlying stuff I started with when coming up with his character does fall into the realm of headcanon. Due to the lack of fandom and my brain deciding to take an idea and run with it, the way I characterize him is pretty unique in terms of Links to the point that I’m considering him not even having the full hero’s spirit in my AU or something, solely because of how different he is. Anyway, the key point is just how /antisocial/ I think he is, as a combination of him living alone in a cabin in the middle of some woods and also the game having no side quests, at least none that are along the lines of helping out people from what I remember. So yeah, he doesn’t really like interacting with strangers, and even with people he knows he prefers to not be in a room with all of them. Also him being autistic because that contributes to his antisocial behavior.

This is going to be a long one (even longer than the previous ones), so strap in: In EoW, Lueburry has two fishing rods in his house.

Also, Lueburry did sorta take in Link, or at least worked with him to help make the might weapons. Therefore, I like to think that the two go fishing together. You can even see a fish that one of them caught in the basket with the carrots. :)

…continuing off of that, I like to think that the rift took more then just Link’s voice, but it was too subtle for people to notice. To explain, I think the rift did take away a form of his spirit, but not the hero’s spirit, hence why he still acts, courageous and heroic in the game and still has that drive to help people.

However, I think he lost the drive to do much else, i.e. having hobbies and stuff. He seems to have fully dedicated himself to this journey, which I suspect has taken at least six months if not a year, though most of it wasn’t a solid journey, but rather him aimlessly wandering around and saving people from being sucked into rifts by warning them. I say this because his house seems to have been abandoned for so long that there’s cobwebs and, if memory serves, it’s a tad bit overgrown.

Basically, I like to think that fishing with Lueburry was basically his last remaining hobby, and he only continued to do it because it was also practical (though he still did find enjoyment in it). This headcanon also serves to explain why he seems to be rather impatient (seriously he runs anh of you so much and it’s annoying).
