Max Weber (1864-1920), was against the economic and social upheavals in Western Europe in which was caused by the expansion of Capitalism during the Industrial Revolution. Weber considered the power and prestige concern for economic stratification of wealth and income. Weber referred to the reputation, influence, and deference bestowed on certain people because of their membership in certain groups. Also, Weber believed that prestige rankings affect the way individuals are treated in social situations, their access to people of wealth and power.
In this article it covered the recent story about Lori Loughlin, and other celebrities that spent money to falsify documents and fake disabilities in order to get into elite colleges. When the celebrity’s children faked disabilities, this allowed for them to be given no time limit on the SAT and ACT testing in which originally is timed. Most working-class parents would not know this information to help improve their children’s tests’ scores, so only the upper-class citizens would have access to this information. According to the article, The Edge College and Career Network helped set up bribes for the administrators of the SAT and ACT tests. There was also mentions of the celebrities hiring someone to take the test for there children. In addition to this some celebrities paid for the children to be given the answers during the test. The lower-class citizens that did not have an abundance of money children would not have the privilege to pay someone to improve their children test scores.
This relates directly to Weber’s perception that social class was based on an individuals’ amount of money and wealth they have. In addition, social class is based on their amount of power to have connections to carry out these tasks.
They faked disabilities. They photoshopped faces onto different bodies. They paid millions in bribes. How scam worked to get rich kids into
