The earth did not give way.
It shattered.
Not from force—
(which, for the record, is usually what one hopes for in a good, honest shattering)
but from something it could no longer contain.
I was, at this point, attempting to not panic.
This was unsuccessful.
He did not understand it.
Which, frankly, made two of us.
He ran.
The ground disagreed with this decision. Loudly.
And when the sky tore open—
(yes, tore, I checked twice, it was extremely rude of it)
he did the only thing he could.
He flew.
I, meanwhile, made a note to never stand there again.
Or anywhere, really.
I am considering sitting down indefinitely.
