Hawkeye: Freefall (2020)
Clint Barton in #2
no hate to MCU clint barton, i love him, but if he's my middle school crush, then comics clint barton is the love of my life whom I met whilst having a wonderful day reading a book outside, and he recognized the book and talked about it with me while I pet his dog, and two weeks later we were happily married with a one bedroom house, two dogs and two cats, and wake up every morning to make each other coffee and leave teasing sticky notes on our neighbor, kate's, door
do we think clint barton has the cilantro soap gene or no
Me rambling about my observations of Hawkeye and his dynamics with others ↓↓↓
See, it's not that everyone has gotten a turn to hate Clint hawkeye Barton. It's that everyone's gotten a turn to not stand the guy. But unless your the villain type, hate is a strong word. But it's the best word in the english language to use when being annoyed by him. In actuality everyone loves Hawkeye/are partial to him. Because he's the eternal underdog and easily slots into the "annoying younger brother" archetype.
Seeing Hawkeye succeed is like heroin in terms of how satisfying of a feeling it is. He's extremely good at being extremely resourceful, so any way he succeeds against an adversary is going to be so interesting to witness. A generally regular guy in a room full of overpowered or genetically altered individuals,he seems unimpressive until you realize he had to make it where he is now for a reason. The reason being, he's a "freak of nature" too. He's just the kind that's more "down to earth" and more relatable to the general working class. Growing up in a circus was an idea that died off LONG ago but it's still more relatable than being a multibillionaire that's genius enough to do whatever he wants AND be a good guy (hi Tony Stark) Hawkeye is money insecure and not anything close to a chosen one and THAT'S his "super power" without perceived privilege or power he flies under the noses of the enemies that ought to particularly watch out for him. And then they still might think his victory was a fluke.
His allies can't stand him because he's fundamentally unserious as a person. Earnest to a fault except he's always checking for week spots in the way you feel about him. And with how insecure his family life was growing up it's no wonder. He'll keep track of what makes a teammate his teammate and if he respects you he won't be upfront about it but he'll internalize your opinion.
His friendship with Steve Rogers is inherently healthy for the both of them but unless you KNEW them you 100% wouldn't think that. Power dynamics and arguing and teasing. But they never stopped being allies to each other. THEY get it. Plenty of things go unsaid between them but if either of them loses the other it's a gaping wound of a loss. They're best friends in a very specific way that allowed them to get under each other's skin nearly unnoticed, or at least, mutually unnoted.
In instances where Tony gets Clint they're as thick as thieves too. But otherwise Tony's in the same perspective as anyone else who claims to practically, basically hate him. When he's gone, maybe dead, they realize a little too late that they genuinely like him, and it's too late to act like it.
Bucky Barnes can't stand Hawkeye. He thinks the guy being annoyingly insecure while simultaneously having too big a head for what he's capable of to be a blight on his psyche. But I'd argue they're friends too. UPS and downs, there's an unsaid mutual respect and minor distain between them that make their relationship what it is outside of their mutual friends (Natasha & Steve)(and Tony too tbh)
People will always hate Clint for being annoying as hell. Because annoying is a skill Clint's finely tuned and cultivated all his life. It's his version of espionage. Just as the exact opposite of clandestine secrecy. It's in your face abd taking up your focus right until you realize you should've been looking so where else but by then he's already gone. Clint's demise is that he's prone to running away or hiding on the off chance anyone looks at him and his a little too closely for comfort. Petulant and startled.
Man I love Hawkeye.
Thank you for coming to my tedtalk.
me when former circus orphans become vigilantes / superheroes:
specifically these fuckers <3
my favorite thing about the hawkeye initiative is that literally any of them would totally do it, and he would do it with great glee
So Frosthawk is canon now?👀
that’s rough buddy
