Glad i got so obsessed with censorship during high school
My sweetie got me this new lapel pin as a birthday present.
Thanks @mommylap!
And a reposting of part three of the "War Against Comics" series, this time focusing on the actual Comics Code itself.
I would never put my comics on webtoon, but I'm wondering how I'd handle the ratings system if I decided I wanted to for some reason--like, I feel like Lizzie's done some worse stuff than bullying or drinking in the comic, but webtoons ratings system doesn't seem to have a problem with serial theft?
Referencing this screenshot Daisy McGuire shared on bluesky btw:
Does crime count as a sensitive topic? I guess not actually, given how many mafia romances are on the site. Anyway, Lizzie Smithson has profanity sometimes, so I guess it's not all ages.
Oh, I buried the lead here btw--webtoons reinvented the comics code. Sorry you had to find out this way. This'll probably kill their whole business since you can't really do good romance comics under these restrictions and that's webtoon's whole bread and butter, but all the other shitty stuff they did didn't shake off their fans, maybe this won't either. 🤷♀️
Kitty Pryde and Wolverine #3
I miss smoking in comics. Kinda wild how the Comics Code was G with wolverine constantly lighting up but any queerness had to be snuck past with suggestion and innuendo.
Also, wolverine answers the phone with 'YO!' without knowing who's calling.
