An intriguing pattern emerges across different traditions: rabbinic sources maintain that the land of Israel was spared during the Flood. Similarly, Samaritan tradition holds that Mount Gerizim—the site of their temple—remained untouched. In Islamic writings, it is likewise said that the waters of the Flood did not reach the Kaaba.

What is particularly noteworthy here, and this is only one example among many, is the apparent transfer of certain legendary motifs. Elements that, in Jewish tradition, are associated with Jerusalem seem to have been reattributed in Islamic narratives to Mecca.

More broadly, the idea of a sacred sanctuary preserved from the Flood appears to stem from an older Semitic motif—though that is a subject deserving separate discussion.
