Back when I was attempting to revamp Never Normal, though nothing really worked for me, one concept had stuck with me. A much darker story where Pip is replaced with a girl half his age and is cared by Alistair in a monster infested city. Alistair’s personality changed too. I made him less friendly and more dangerous towards humans, but he changes his ways when he has to look after child that’s separated from her parents. The idea of Alistair becoming a “babysitter” came from my own experiences of watching after kids, which was one of the hardest tasks I’ve ever had to do.
