Until anything in canon directly contradicts it, I'm going to headcanon that Nate is from an alternate universe/possible future where Cole and Vania got together🖤🤍

Yes, I know: in Ninjago Vania didn’t have a particularly important role and was written out of the show way too quickly. But I love Vania.
Why? Because to me, Vania is a simple princess: she isn’t vain, she’s spontaneous, and she knows how to appreciate the little things. She carries a huge trauma on her shoulders: the only parental figure she had deeply disappointed her, leaving her with an enormous responsibility to bear. And yet, despite everything, she never stops smiling.
My interpretation of Vania is that of a girl forced to hide her feelings beneath a crown. Every emotion has to be controlled, almost suppressed, because she knows her role must always come first.
And that’s exactly why I think she has such a complicated relationship with the feelings she has for Cole. Cole is her complete opposite: he’s a ninja, a free spirit, an adventurer who can choose his own path. Meanwhile, she’s constantly afraid that she’s not enough for him, or that he might feel trapped being with someone like her.
But I like to imagine Cole proving her wrong. Showing her that she is enough just as she is, and that, deep down, he also lives trapped by responsibility: the responsibility of being a hero who can never afford to fail.
And that’s where the two of them find their perfect balance. When the sun sets, the crown rests on the nightstand, and the ninja uniform is left in the closet, they can finally just be two people who love each other peacefully♡.
While I don't think it was the writers' intent to ship Cole x Vania...
I suspect that at least a few of the animators wanted to make them a couple:
I'm not in any way trying to override any ships, especially not Cole x Geo since it is just shy of becoming canon.
I simply wanted to share some of the "evidence" I found for Vanillacake, because regardless of whether you like them romantically or platonically, Cole and Vania do make a very sweet pair.
I think the biggest support of Vanillacake is the way Cole looks at Vania- correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't remember his eyes consistently going all soft and droopy at one specific person before Season 13.
However, I am also a big fan of finding platonic explanations for things/ turning everything into a giant found family dynamic. If anything, I'm all for it feeling like Vania has one of those celebrity crushes on him at the beginning, which gradually wears off into genuine appreciation for him as a person. Cole, meanwhile, loves the attention and sees her as sort of a little sister that needs taking care of (like he's taken care of Lloyd all of these years.)
If you do ship Vanillacake, by all means, go right ahead! Take this is a little boost of inspiration and fluff. If not, then let this be a reminder of how sweet Cole can be to his friends, and how quick he is to adopt people into his (by now ginormous) family.
