Peter with his "what am i gonna do with him" face 🤏🏻🥰
The Salamanca Family
Dug this up since I'm doing a Lalo-centric mini project. Some names inspired by @fingons-rad-harp's headcanons because I'm cheeky :P
These are specific to GaD Lalo yes he has sisters

Chapter 17 : Punching Bag/Rage
Ignacio takes out some of his rage.

New logo for Controlling Interest! I thought that the rabbit was getting a little old as a profile picture and didn't fit as a logo for the overall series. This, however, fits much better in my opinion.
‘he drugged himself in some ridiculous experiment to recreate what he said to the psychiatrist’
STOP
when the therapist said peter’s name in the word association exercise neal’s response was “worthy”
So......... Season 5 is a special kind of strange. Starting with how the only plot point from 4's finale that they acknowledge is James' framing Peter. I'm beginning to believe they mostly did that to have that ironic prison scene between Neal and Peter. Outside of that, the fact that James AND Neal were wanted for an assault on Pratt is never addressed. Peter putting on Neal's anklet and letting him scheme freely is never mentioned. This is very glaring with how instantaneously Peter is promoted.
A lot of this is difficult to watch Neal go through. He's nowhere near being over what James did to him and his support system is falling apart. Another person he builds a rapport dies and leaves him feeling responsible. Mozzie is always there, but he's Neal's hedonistic playmate. Neal even has to offer him a place to stay for a while. Poor kid.
In Suits, when Harvey and Mike went through tension in season 4, their relationship stayed strained until they fully make up. Peter and Neal are supposed to be strained in season 5, but there are still these sprinkles of their normal relationship. So much wishy-washy with this.
Anyway, let's thank God this isn't the X-Men franchise and see what diamonds we can find among the rough.
You know Neal spent every work day in Peter's office, making sure no one got any bright ideas about taking over his dad's throne. Only Neal can play with his stuff. Peter totally lights up when he sees his little scamp, too!
Peter: Are you playing Elton John?
Neal: *Scoff* No. (Covertly turns off I Just Can't Wait to be King) Welcome home, old man 🤴
Season Five Fatherly Peter
At What Price
So glad James didn't come back for more than a voice cameo. Maybe he met back up with his nutty wife and joined Scott's missing parents in a townhouse in the Deadbeat Chromosome Donor District. In hell. Neal's head is so messed up- you are not betraying that POS-SOB-hobo! Disgusting! I hate this delusional idea of forced biological loyalty. Let me move on before my BP suffers because of this stupid.
Yeah, I don't care what Peter says. He looks uncomfortable through this whole promotion thing. I wonder if he takes it so they don't have to deal with another obnoxious ambitious boss wannabe. He seems ready to resume dad duty with Neal, suspicious of his firehouse behavior. Then.... someone adds her two petty cents
It's impossible for me not to dislike El a ton this season. I wind up fast forwarding through many of her scenes. She is so two-faced this season in regards to Neal. I get it. She got freaked from Peter being falsely imprisoned. How the flick is that Neal's fault?! He didn't even want his loved ones involved in his search for answers. He wanted nothing to do with James until all of his loved ones refused to shut up about him. Now, all the blame and guilt is being put on the youngest one among them?! But El's not about to disown her wine buddy Mozzie when he makes the FBI's naughty list.
When Peter is telling Neal about the new handler/anklet, he sounds so heartbroken. Really revealing when he insists he's still proud of him but terrified of Neal winding up back in prison.
Out of the Frying Pan
Okay, David Siegal is fine. He seemed interesting and had a decent dynamic going with Butch and Sundance. Oh wow, Mozzie faces some form of consequences for his criminal activity. I thought condemnation was strictly reserved for Neal.
What is Peter's deal here? Why is he suddenly in denial about their coffee mornings? Is he trying to put on a big objective boss persona? Ummm, he's been a Brown-Eyed Boss since his introduction in the pilot. I did enjoy Neal teasing him about being curmudgeon.
One Last Stakeout
And there's the Papa Peter who can't handle the separation from his Blue-Eyed Brilliance. I know Neal mainly wanted Peter out of the car, but it's nice that he got to express his very valid hurt in some form. James left him holding the bag and now, he feels ditched by the man he declared his real father. Peter's in pain also, but he's the dad here. He needs to make things right.
Said dad energy came out again when he chewed David and Neal out for a failed stakeout. Even golden child David feels utterly chastised. It is nice that Peter takes some of the blame by admitting his showing up distracted them. David did seem really interesting when he easily could have been an unlikable wedge between Peter and Neal. I still can't believe not only the way his arc ended but how insanely quickly. Have I mentioned this season is weird?!
David: Father, we are so sorry! We throw ourselves upon your mercy 🙏
Neal: We'll make it up, relax 😒
Peter: Relax?! Should have known. Anymore bright ideas while you're wasting my time?
Neal: (Resisting eye roll) Oh, here we go, blah, blah, blah, Bureau sacred bull sh...
Peter: What was that, Neal George Caffrey??
Neal: Just thinking out loud, Dad 👼
Controlling Interest
Oookay, this is the episode that demands discussion. First thing, here's a list of all of the illegal activities I can remember Peter sanctioned for Neal up to and including this point.
-Erasing that tape that, wrongly, implicated Peter accepting a bribe from a dirty judge.
-Allowing Neal to pull off an elaborate scheme to prove his innocence against Fowler.
-*Peter* not arresting his FBI colleague despite said colleague being a wanted fugitive. Also, no penalty for his girlfriend harboring him. CI competition to hotwire a Lamborghini, anyone?
-Giving Neal immunity for one nostalgic night.
-Risking an international incident to help Neal free an innocent American.
-The Lady Fixer pointing out how Peter upholds the law while those around him break it.
-Now, here, he lets Neal craft a fake work ID for impersonation purposes, risking a young trainee his job, and going through a company computer without a search warrant.
I skipped quite a few, but that's more than enough. They will be pertinent during this season, believe me.
I didn't like how this episode started with Neal basically caged after David's murder. It was great of Peter to make the executive decision to be his handler again. As heartfelt a moment as it should be, it becomes funny when the first thing Peter wants to do is solve a boring case that deflates Neal.
It was nice to see make a connection with that former criminal trying to be a good father. Neal would especially admire someone like that. His capacity for empathy could be as beneficial for the FBI as his underworld skills are.
No way am I the only one who found the therapy sessions disturbing. This would have turned into an episode of some Law and Order show if it was a lady patient and male doctor. It seemed like that woman was only gaslighting Neal from start to finish. Something happens to him after this episode. He starts stealing literally 'just because', which has never been his primary motivation since becoming a CI. Worse, these deeds and his damaged mental state never get appropriately addressed! All I can think is that it's a subconscious thing, where he's misbehaving because he feels like he's losing everyone, anyway.
Papa Peter returns. When Neal was making the ID with a blade, Peter cautioned him to watch his fingers. The way Neal objects, "Peter," sounds like, "I know, Dad, geez." Then, when Neal is high on goodnight cinderella (can we stop casually alluding to male rape, please?), the first place he goes is to the Burkes. Peter is super giddy to see him. El offers him food- hopefully, without poisoning it first. It's hard to tell her intentions this season. Peter seems more annoyed at Mozzie for getting Neal high. And he covers his sleeping boy with a blanket!
The first word that comes to Neal's mind when he thinks about Peter is worthy. Does he think Peter's the only one worthy of his respect? Or does Peter's attention and pride in him make Neal feel worthy? I'm leaning towards the latter.
I know this probably isn't very coherent, but neither is this season 💕
