race recap
okay i know it’s like thursday so it’s p late for a race recap but here i go anyway!
goal time: 4-4:15 actual time: 4:40
so, the first 13.1 miles were absolutely awesome. I hit my 9:09-9:15 pace almost the whole time (except for the giant hill, but I made up for it on the way down the hill). The course was two out and backs, with a ton of elevation gain both ways. Okay, maybe not a ton, but about 1300ft total in the race. It was also about 80 degrees by the time I finished.
so some things I was not prepared for: the elevation gain, the heat, and how tired I would feel after getting through the first half. I hit 2:05 for my first 13.1 (I want to do just a half and see how fast I can do it).
the second go around though the elevation gain and the heat murdered me. I ended up walking quite a bit of the second half, which is why my time dropped so significantly. I definitely went out too fast, like maybe going for 9:30-9:45 and then speeding up would have been a much better strategy, but I also really wanted to see if I could maintain 9:09-9:15. I couldn’t, and that’s okay. I’m glad I tried, even if it was really hard the second half because of the fast first half.
I still got fifth in my age group (I was really surprised about that)! And as much as in the middle of the race I was like “this was so stupid this is so hard what the fuck was I thinking” I’m already wondering what my next race will be! Like I said, I’d love to run a half and see how far sub-two hours I can go, since I ran the first half in 2:05.
My right foot was really bothering me - surprise surprise when I did some deep tissue work on my right calf it was soooooo tight. It must have been pulling on my plantar fascia and causing the inflammation/pain. I rolled out yesterday for about half an hour, and feeling right as rain today.
