you mentioned ur oc is set in the 22nd century? :0 would you like to share some of ur predictions about the future of whole world there with the class? :3
FIRST OF ALL, THANK YOU FOR THIS CREATIVE ASK!!! Secondly, this is an extremely interesting and hard question that keeps me up all night. I also think about this literally EVERY DAY, so,
- I STILL don’t think there will be flying cars. nobody got the flying cars people in the 2000s imagined. transport is mostly super fast electric trains, packed asf buses, and regular cars that just run cleaner. traffic is more horrendous than today.
- Summers are basically unlivable. from like march to october the heat index is so bad people stay inside with the ACs on all the time. The "normal outside season" is november to february when temperatures feel like what summer used to feel like.
- The sky is almost always purple or red. A lot of cities look kinda like mega versions of places in China today like huge apartment blocks, endless highways, neon signs everywhere, and smog hanging over everything.
- Buildings are made to seal people in from heat and air pollution. almost every apartment has heavy filtration systems and indoor gardens (gardens? Like the places with plants? Plants mentioned.) to help with air quality.
- Governments are super strict about pollution because climate damage is already irreversible. massive fines for companies that release emissions and regular citizens have limits on energy use.
- Antarctica is barely recognizable compared to what it used to be. most of the ice sheets melted and the sea level rise forced tons of coastal cities to build giant flood barriers or move inland.
- Big pharma became insanely powerful. there are pills for almost everything now: losing weight really fast, stopping acne forever, slowing aging, preventing hair growth so shaving isn’t a thing anymore.
- Food is super different. lab grown meat and synthetic food are normal because farming got way harder with the climate. (At last, its super tasty)
- Cosmetic medicine is normal at a young age. people tweak their bodies the way people used to change hairstyles.
- "Touching real nature" is considered a luxury experience. preserved forests and natural parks are heavily protected and you need permits to even visit them.
- People spend way more time online because going outside for long periods isn’t comfortable anymore. entire social lives happen in huge virtual spaces.
- Some rich areas built climate controlled districts where the air is clean and the temperature is normal, but most people can’t afford to live there.
- The vibe of cities is kinda cyberpunk but not cool cyberpunk you see in video games. more like crowded, loud, polluted, and glowing with ads everywhere.
