HP Kinktober 2020 Day 7: Creature!Fic

Thinking about doing a Witcher fanfiction among the lines of

"Julian Alfred Pankratz died at the young age of just 16, succumbing to a severe fever. But Melitele is gracious and rewards his pure soul with a second chance.

He's to bring joy to the people in these dark times and inspire hope in their hearts. Trained in his newfound powers and sent down in a proper transport, he is now traveling under the name of "Jaskier" as the bard he had always wanted to be.

He's set on going the extra mile on his mission, setting his sights on the most miserable soul around to help.

Roughly attached to the witcher series main plot but maybe straying from it from time to time. I love the ideas of Creature!Jaskier and thought why not let him be a heavenly one by chance? This also inclines some more righteous explanations for his nightly adventures, feels on both side and probably a lot of pining.

Anyone interested? Maybe having some prompts or ideas for the plot?

When I say I make the story up as I go, I mean it. This just happened:

I never have a story fully figured out when I start writing it, which yeah makes me a complete psychopath and utterly chaotic, but THISSSSS is why! Thinking on the fly is my thing and coming to my own realization while I'm going to the bathroom is fucking hilarious. My husband heard me yell and said "Uh, ok cool?"😂

Top 10 Creature Stiles

Non-Human Stiles is amazing. This list doesn’t include magic user Stiles, just full out non-human. 

1. Abominable - Revenant Yeti! Derek’s cabin is my dream. Cheeky Yeti Stiles is adorable, ending is kind of bittersweet though. 

2. Carry My Body Safe To Shore - derekstilinski Mermaid! Derek is so happy and cocky it’s great. Stiles’ mermaid curse it great too and the whole town banding together is heart-warming. 

3. Quit Dragon Me Around - WonderWolf  Dragon! Derek trying so hard to be a good person but he’s actually starving Stiles is adorable! Whole series is great! 

4. Trees are always a relief after dealing with people - ravelqueen Wood Nymph! Stiles is so fascinating and his little stand off with Derek is great. Try to woo someone who think’s you’re threatening him. Just amazing! 

5. Snow day - kellifer_fic Abominable Snowman! Stiles is so freaking cute and fluffy then he turns all BAMF and saves the day! 

6. No Oceans Left - zoemathemata Mermaid! I love me some Mermaid!Stiles but this is brilliant. It’s so sad and Stiles is just missing his mum okay? But it’s sweet and Derek is always there for him.

7.  The Jelly To His Doughnut - blacktofade Ghost! This is truly sweet and Stiles is sarcastic and Derek’s a little homeowner and there’s even a happy ending. 

8. Starset - sasha_bo Dragon! All the paranormal creatures in this. Stiles as a Dragon is adorable and Derek being all sad and confused. Dragon hoard and werewolf pack dynamics too. 

9. I’m Hunting On The Night - PaddyWack Wolf! Had to include one Werewolf!Stiles. This is full wolf Stiles and Derek takes care of him, it’s so sweet and bittersweet too. 

10. A Simple Life - Survivah Fox! Also had to include Fox!Stiles. But it’s so sweet, Stiles slowly becoming human and not understanding anything, and Derek falling in love with the little fox.

Courting Gifts

Parent Fic: Belle is abducted by aliens. Well, an alien. Rumpelstiltskin is just as confused by his accidental captive as she is by her alien-imp captor.

This Prompt Fill: Miscommunications abound.

Prompt: @Anonymous: My favorite tropes with aliens are aliens that get confused over human courting rituals and try their best. So, Alien!Gold trying to woo Belle and just. Not exactly hitting the mark.

It was about a month after the…incident…on the Priestess’ Planet that Belle found a box of spikes on her desk. It was about the size of both of her curled firsts together and uniformly black with an odd green sheen. Each point was almost as long as her pinkie finger and looked dagger-sharp.

Rumple must have left it for her but she had no idea why. Was she supposed to use it for something? Was he still upset? Was it some obscure sort of threat?

Doubtful, she decided after a moment of thought. He was the type to threaten her to her face if he was really that upset. Plus, he’d actually been in a surprisingly good mood recently, much friendlier than he’d been right after it happened.

So…why the spikes?

Dubiously, Belle poked at the thorny mass with the tip of her stylus and almost jumped out of her skin when it shifted with a steady, rustling hiss and the thorns perked up aggressively.

“Rumpelstiltskin!”

“It’s a plant.” He explained, obviously miffed by the way she was keeping him between her and the deadly…thing. It had uncurled to show four long, spiny leaves slightly lighter in color than the black under-leaves, and covered on the inside with short green and black thorns, lighter on the edges of the leaves and gradually shading to black at the middle of each leaf and the center of the plant. She still couldn’t see any sort to stem or flower…but the foot-long leaves were moving towards her in a threatening manner and the thorns were still standing straight up.

She could tell it was a plant now, for some alien definition of the word…but not why it was on her desk.

“What is it doing here?” She all but yelped as one of the sharp leaves managed to get a few inches closer. She ducked behind her captain, a gesture he received by tensing up and frowning.

He shrugged, guarded and defensive. “I picked it up at the last port. I thought…” He cleared his throat, a sign of discomfort that Belle didn’t notice, riveted as she was on the lethal-looking spikes that seemed to be reaching for her. “I thought…”

“You thought what? That it would stab me?”

“What-no! I just thought it would be a good addition to hydroponics! Jekka spine-flowers are well known for their oxygen-producing qualities, you know.”

“I-I see. But what’s it doing in here then?

“You said you liked to see new things.” He smirked at her, an expression full of sharp edges that she hadn’t seen in a while.

He must still be angry. Either that, or he’d taken the opportunity to play a prank on her and she’d responded differently than he’d expected, embarrassing him enough to make him lash out.

She took a deep breath, fighting to keep her voice even and not give into her own anger that he’d put the dangerous thing in her work space. It would do no good for both of them to become upset. “Alright. I’ve seen it. Now, please get it out of here.”

“As you wish.” He grumbled. To her surprise, instead of poofing it away in a cloud of purple smoke, he stalked forward and picked it up. When he touched it, the leaves curled back in around the center, turning it into a thorny cactus-like black bundle. Distantly, Belle noticed that the light blue ceramic pot holding it was surprisingly detailed and ornate for what Rumple intended.

“If that will be all?” He snapped, irritated. Belatedly, Belle recalled that she had summoned him away from whatever he’d been doing.

She managed to work up a wan smile of thanks. “Yes. Um, thank you.”

He brushed past her in a huff, taking the plant with him, and Belle made sure to stay far from the vicious leaves on its way out. It was only after she’d scoured her workplace for signs of any others, or of seeds, that she managed to get her mind back on her work.

In the hallway on his way to the arboretum, Rumpelstiltskin stared at the gift he’d gotten for Belle, feeling embarrassed and put out. At least he’d come up with an excuse for having the plant other than “I heard human females desire plants as courting gifts.”

He’d spent an hour picking which one and decided on the Jekka spine-flower because it was rare and interesting to look at. None of the other specimens were quite so complicated or fascinating. Spine-flowers had a number of abilities that were rare in other species – including the ability to move. They even had a lengthy history, having been harvested and various parts refined for use as food, weapons, textiles, medicine, and oxygen sources on their home planet before being taken into space and extending their reach even further.

He’d thought that sort of complexity would be the sort of thing Belle wanted.

Well, he’d been wrong. Maybe he didn’t know her as well as he thought.

Now he was out a good deal of money, owned a rare plant he neither needed nor wanted, and Belle probably thought he was trying to kill her.

Maybe he should reconsider this whole courtship thing.

Summary: Harry gets a unique opportunity to get to know Severus Snape. Who knew Snape would turn out to be a cat person? 8th year at Hogwarts, Snape!lives, animagus fic, rated M for later scenes of slash. 

Warnings: None.

Themes: Understanding. Creature!Harry.

Genre: Romance. Fluff. LOTS OF IT.

Narrative: There is something that the author uses to make this otherwise cliché story to have a lot of heart. There are certain things that are glossed over, where I found myself thinking “Oh come on, this is too sudden I need some background info”. Then the more I read, the more I got the pace and the overall feeling of the story; understood I was expecting something that wasn’t going to be in the story, and that I had to pay attention in a different way. It’s, with the utmost respect, a quite simplistic story. It’s not complex and it doesn’t pretend to be, but that’s what makes it really special. Instead it wants to show you something else. Something more precious, that may or may not get in the way of your headcanons, but that I ultimately think is worth the read.

Brief Character Breakdown: The most noted changes are in Severus Snape. He is not mellow, sweet, nice or amicable, but there is certainly something softer about him. Something not quite so jaded and despairing. He is, for lack of a better word, “chill”, in a more private setting, which is what Harry gets to see. I like that duality. Harry is a little more playful than usual. Canon!Harry is delightfully sarcastic and caustic too, and I think that many fic authors sometimes don’t exploit that, and I always make notice of it when it doesn’t happen, but when I read this, I feel like the author replaced that dry, sarcastic wit with something else. Something that I think I can appreciate well. Harry is so playful here, lovely as always, and well meaning and also a little bit of a well-meaning but inconsiderate klutz, which I love about canon and fanon Harry.

My Opinion: Highly recommend it. The author is also a master at navigating UST. The fic is not exactly slow-burn but it makes you feel that way. There is a lot of flirting, which I think it’s an underused resource in fan fic. It’s also really sweet and fluffy. Not exactly something you can expect from a Snarry that takes itself seriously, but I mean cats just work magic so....

The duality of Snape’s persona in public and private, and the duality of his feelings for Harry in public and private is D.E.L.I.C.I.O.U.S.
