When I was creating it, I had no idea what the base color would be. And while coloring, it suddenly occurred to me - physalis! 📿🟠

Sunday Stamp: Irish Stamp

“Irish Stamp” is the theme for this week Sunday Stamps Ireland EIRE – 1991 Irish heritage and Treasures: Bishop’s Crosier of Lismore (c. 1100). By this stream side the new fronds of Osmunda regalis (royal fern, flowering fern) were uncurling. This fern is native to Europe, Africa and Asia growing in damp conditions and forming a large clump of bipinnate fronds with separate fertile spore-bearing fronds. The foliage turns an attractive red-brown in autumn.

The stipes (stems) of Cyathea medullaris (black tree-fern, mamaku, sago fern) are a striking black covered with scales and marginal spines. It can be distinguished from related species by the hexagonal scars on the trunk. This iconic New Zealand tree fern has wonderful unfurling croziers that have striking black scales. This specimen was growing in the Temperate House, Royal Botanic Garden Kew, London. The croziers reminded me of a wonderful spiral staircase I had seen recently.
