Oh yeah... It's Friday and I didn't need to go anywhere today. Okay then, here's something lazy and ill-conceived.

The Valkirtani Dragon originally belonged to another land far across the sea. Then a long time ago a group of them made their way over and settled in Laramidia with the native Tannin. The rest of them are still probably in their homeland and may have all but forgotten the ones who crossed the sea. The Valkirtani have a unique and nigh limitlessly powerful ability of their own that allows them to tap into the ambient magic that permeates all things, and change the nature of physical matter to enchant the material to exhibit a different unnatural behavior. This could be made permanent effect, or it could be temporary allowing them to create magical objects or Spell-like Phenomenon, but this ability takes a long time to learn and even longer to master especially if you want to add more complex enchantment. First you need to know how something is meant to work before you go changing anything, and then you need to understand the new property you are trying to give the object and how it will effect reality, if you add too many things onto a single object carelessly they could make a contradiction and destroy the whole thing or make something entirely unrecognizable and unrecoverable from it's original form.

The Valkirtani put a strong emphasis on education and rules in to teach all of their kind how to use this ability properly so they don't end up creating something disastrous by mistake, but also their power has made many of them curious to master and discover every possibility of their powers and try things that have not been done before, though this boundless desire to discover has led to their downfall in the past.

In Laramidia the Settler Valkirtani once had a great magical empire that enslaved the native Tannin as a labor force so they could focus more on greater magical achievement, and their hierarchy was a sort of Magic based meritocracy based on whoever was able to prove they were the greatest mage by being able to innovate and create new magical discoveries.

They pushed the limits experimenting on everything they could think of and even disregarded some morality for further discovery. This would eventually prove to be their undoing as the push to drive curiosity past all boundaries would create one among them who disregarded the idea of boundaries to prove he was the greatest mage of all and should be made their king. Disgusted by the twisted reflection of their own faults they rejected him and cast away, only to realize too late the horrible mistake they had made. He turned to the Tannin Rebels and helped lead their slave revolts and revolution against the Valkirtani Empire, leading to a genocide of the Laramidian Valkirtani. The survivors who were left found places to lay low in remote locations of Laramidia and some of them may even have fled to Appalachia, meanwhile their traitor faded into the mist of history.

In the modern Era none of the Valkirtani in Laramidia who were once a part of the atrocities committed against the Tannin live today, but they are still persecuted and hunted by most of the modern Tannin population. Some have found safety in small Tannin populations but are slowly nearing extinction as more and more Valkirtani hybridize into the Tannin population. Some Valkirtani try to maintain a strict separation from the Tannin and live in remote places to avoid being bothered or killed.

The Eastern Valkirtani are presumably still doing well in their own homeland. The ones who decided to travel across the sea were likely not part of a greater Valkirtani Empire otherwise they could have sent a signal or messengers when things started going bad, and would have retreated to bring back stronger forces when their empire fell. More likely the Settlers lost their land to another group of Valkirtani and left to settle somewhere new.

Eastern Valkirtani's wings do not function for flight but are used as a Sail for temperature regulation and enhanced senses being able to pick up vibrations and changes in the air.

The Valtannin are a Hybrid Species of the native Laramidian Tannin and the Valkirtani. Hybrid typically refers to dragon who have one Tannin parent and one Valkirtani parent cause it's most most evident with them that they are a crossbreed species. To a degree, almost all modern Tannin and Laramidian Valkirtani are to some small margin a Hybrid, originating back from the days before the Valkirtani empire began to exploit the Tannin for physical labor they saw it as beneficial for their survival to have interspecies relationships with the Native Dragons in order to adapt to the new environment, hence why all Laramidian Valkirtani have wings instead the Sails of their ancestors, and Tannin have the ability to control their elemental abilities rather than just expel it from their bodies, they are tapping into a trait from Valkirtani magic which allows them to a more limited degree change the nature of material around them but only when it's connected to the element that they have an affinity for.

But the fact that all dragons are some degree of hybrid would probably disturb some dragons both among the Tannin and the Valkirtani who refuse to associate with the other, and true Valtannin Hybrids are not fully welcome within either group so they tend to hide among communities that are more accepting of them or strike out to find places they can be safe with other Hybrid.

The Valtannin have both of their parents magical abilities. They can absorb magical energy from the environment around them meaning they can also obtain elemental powers, and they can manipulate Magic but to a more limited degree than the Valkirtani where they can not tap into the magic of all things in the world but they can change the nature of their own magic and elements that they have an affinity for, So an Earth Element Valtannin can not use their magic to make Ice that acts like Stone, but they can make a Stone act like Ice.

One particular group of Valtannin came together under the teachings of a master of Water Magic who learned how to master cellular transformation and body crafting. She used her ability to gift her followers with aquatic forms that could survive in the sea and created a hidden underwater kingdom under her rule for the Sanctuary and Protection of other Hybrids. She tries to make their new existence the best she can make for her subjects and has agents working on the surface to locate and rescue other Hybrids in need of help and guidance, and direct them to the coast of her hidden kingdom where they can be escorted to the hidden city under the waves.

Have you ever heard of the Functional Dog Collaborative? It’s a collaborative of dog breeders, both of purebreeds and purpose-bred mix breeders, and it was founded by veterinarian geneticist Dr Jessica Hekman. I follow the FDC on instagram and I find it a valuable resource.

It's so neat to get this ask! Thank you, and yes! Posting so other people can hear about it. Even if folks aren't on social media, the website is a fantastic resource. There is so, so much more to dog breeding than the current paradigm, and I think we're experiencing a shift right now, opening up new spaces to share knowledge that goes beyond "byb vs Reputable Show or Sport Breeder" and is more useful for average pet people than either.

I was briefly a moderator in the fb group when it was first created, and now just handle going through membership requests. Moderation is NOT for me but I care very deeply about the mission statement.

Jessica's passion inspires me. She has created a central hub for the more compassionate, more quality-of-life focused (both for dog and owner) culture of dog breeding that so many of us are working hard at.

The FDC is even responsible for connections that led to finding a co-breeder in Canada I trust to create her own Vulpine spitz program!

She recently worked with another FDC associated breeder down in California to breed her Vulpine spitz stud (Finch, 1/2 papillon, some husky, then sheltie) with a collie, and we couldn't be happier with how they're growing up.

Greetings! A question: can rodents (say, mice and bats) in Ratterrock world interbreed or it works the way it does in our world?

I touched a bit on this subject in another ask! But as a refresher…

Sex between species happens (despite the cultural taboo of it), but actual breeding between species? That’s something that has never been reported.

It’s generally assumed as a medical fact that a rat and a mouse, for instance, couldn’t have a pup together, at least not a healthy one. There’s been the odd rumor here and there there about crossbreed pups, but those are just that, rumors and stories and speculation to send shivers down society’s spine…

Even if they survived the birthing process, even if they were healthy in all aspects, such a pup would be seen as an abomination in the eyes of society. And the pup of a mouse and a bat? Even more so. A flying rodent breeding with a land rodent? Ridiculous and repulsive!

For example, I should soon have another AU (Sky Tower) on my main account, there are designs, but they are not drawn, at least in electronic form. With Firuno it's more complicated, since I haven't come up with anyone to cross with Peppino (as you understand, Firuno came from Fir and, in fact, Bruno + his first design is very different from the current one), so it's questionable. / С Фируно всё сложнее, так как я не придумал с кем можно скрестить Пеппино (как вы понимаете Фируно произошёл от Fir и как раз таки Бруно + его первый дизайн с нынешним сильно отличается), поэтому под вопросом.

Yo Pokemon Company and Niantic or whoever! Maybe your next big project after Scarlet/Violet could be a game focused on training you to be a Pokemon Breeder? Like give us a game that goes in depth about Pokemon breeding and egg moves and stats and IVs. You can even give us crossbreed Pokemon!

Instead of a Gardevoir and a Jellicant just making another Gardevoir give us something crossed between the two, a new subspecies or offshoot of the standard Gardevoir. Look at Pinterest and Deviant Art and even here on Tumblr! There are amazing drawings and art done by people about what it'd be like if some Pokemon were crossbred and it looks like they were!

Look at these! These were just on the home page or recommended page for my Pinterest. I didn't even really have to look! And look how awesome they are or how much it makes sense!
