Chapter 8 of ‘She’s Leaving, Dean’.
You were nervous by the time dinner rolled around. Out of any family known, yours was probably the weirdest. There was Dean- who was like that weird older brother, Cas- an angel who you swore was made for Dean, your father- King of Hell, you, and then Sam.
Sam kept reassuring you that everything would be fine, but how could you not be nervous? You had changed into a cute dress that went up to your neck, and then you did your best covering up any hickies with make up. You hair was left down in loose waves.
Hearing the timer go off for the lasagna, you made your way to the kitchen and pulled it out of the oven. Dean walked in, following the smell of food. “I don’t know which looks prettier. You or the food.”
You laughed, rolling your eyes. “You don’t need to suck up, Dean. There are two different kinds of pies in the oven.”
He grinned. “You spoil me.” and he kissed your cheek.
“Oh bloody hell, please tell me your not into brothers, Love.” You turned and threw your oven mitt at Crowley, who had chosen that exact moment to make his entrance. “I’m kidding, Darling, It smells wonderful.” he came over and kissed the other cheek.
Dean laughed, grabbed a beer, and walked out. You watched him go, smiling. “So, to let you know, Cas will be here, too.”
Crowley sighed and nodded. “I figured as much.”
“And don’t worry, Dean bought enough alcohol for the whole army.” You exaggerated. Crowley actually laughed at that. A full on laugh, making you grin. “Go get comfortable. I’m just about to put all the food on the table.”
Sam helped set the table. Dean called up to let Cas know everyone was sitting down to eat, so he could come whenever. As you were all getting seated, Cas appeared with a bottle of wine in hand. “I was told, it is customary to bring wine when invited to a dinner.”
You smiled and kissed his cheek “Thank you Cas, it’s perfect for a celebratory toast.”
“What are we celebrating?” Cas looked around confused. “Should I have brought another gift? Or balloons?”
Sam was pouring wine for you and him. Crowley had his scotch and Dean was still cradling a beer. He offered some to Cas who agreed to try.
“Well…” Sam started as you all sat down.
You and Sam stood next to each other, arms holding the other person. Well, as well as you could with how tall he was. “Sam proposed.” You beamed, showing the ring.
“When?” Cas asked, a sweet smile on his face.
“Last night.” Sam said, kissing your cheek and the both of you sat down.
Cas gave you both a loving look before he resumed that confused look on his face. “I have two more questions.” He started. “The first is…why is Crowley here if this is a family dinner? And second, why are you wearing a copious amount of make up on your neck, Y/N?” His head did that tilt thing as you blushed.
You looked to Dean. “You didn’t tell him? How the hell could you keep that from him?” Your voice was playful, and he knew what you were hinting at. It was the running joke.
“Tell me what?” Poor Cas just wanted to be in the know.
“Go on, tell your sweetie. I just know you would love being the one to fill him in.” You grinned.
Cas looked between you and Dean, raising an eyebrow.
Dean narrowed his eyes at you. “You don’t want to piss off your big brother.” He teased. You stuck his tongue out at him.
Sam laughed. “This really is a family dinner!” You smirked at him. Crowley didn’t know whether to roll his eyes or be amused.
“I’m her father.” Crowley spoke up.
Cas looked to you, eyes wide. You smiled. “I just found out.. 2 months ago? I’m surprised Dean didn’t tell you before now. You should have a talk with your wife about keeping secrets.” you smirked at Dean who pointed at you, giving you a death glare.
Cas looked confused and was about to say something when Sam cut him off “She’s joking, Cas. We know you aren’t married to Dean. But that’s where she’s been for the last few weeks. In hell learning to control her powers.” Cas gave Sam a concerned look “We’ll talk more about it later okay Cas, Let’s eat and be happy.”
“To y/n and Sam.” Crowley held up his glass, trying to help change the subject before Cas could ask more questions. You gave Cas a sympathetic look as you all raised your glasses.
“How has training been?” Dean asked once everyone started eating.
“Really well, actually. I just started learning the whole teleportation thing. Still not too confident just yet.” You shrugged.
Crowley smirked. “Most demons won’t come near her or Moose because of her training.” You could tell he was proud. “She’s been beating boys since she was young.”
“How so?” Sam asked.
“Ask her about her fifth birthday party.” You cracked up laughing remembering that day. “See. It’s that good.”
You stopped, wide eyed you looked to Crowley. “How…?”
“I was there, Love.” He smiled. “Well, I wasn’t there, there… I was watching. You had that one in the park, so I was able to watch from a near by bench. You refused to be a princess like all the other girls.” The smile reached his eyes as he told everyone about it. You teared up a little, seeing how happy he was talking about one of your good memories.
When he got the part about you taking the crown and claiming yourself king, and your warrior scream on the table, the boys laughed. “That’s our girl.” Dean pinched your cheek, and you laughed pushing his hand away.
“You didn’t see what happened after the party. I tried to cut the rest of my cake with my plastic sword. Let’s just say… Mom wasn’t exactly pleased with the state of the kitchen after that.” you smiled. “Or the fact that I was covered in 2 layers of cake and icing.”
“I would have loved to see that.” He smiled. You gave him a sad smile in return.
“I don’t have any of the pictures from my childhood, or I would be happy to show you.” Taking a deep breath, you cheered up. “But, that’s okay. I have new memories now.” You even had a photo album that started when you were seventeen. “And they are more good then bad these days, thanks to each of you.” You smiled as you looked around the table, from one person to the next.
Crowley hated what you went through, despised your mother for not telling him about the abuse, but he saw you smiling and couldn’t regret you. Not even a tiny bit. “Any other stories, Crowley?” Dean asked, smirking at you.
He smiled. “I remember her first day of school. First grade I believe. Most the kids her age were clinging to their mothers skirts, but not her. She ran off and climbed a tree. Some boy, maybe a year or two older, said something and looked up her skirt, then laughed with his friends. “
“Oh my god! I remember this! You were there for that, too!?”
He nodded, Dean got impatient “What happened?!”
You buried your face in your hand, blushing as Crowley continued. “She jumped down from the branch, which was 5 feet off the ground, and whacked the kid right in the face with her lunch box.” Crowley chuckled. “He ran crying to his mother.”
“First day of school, I took on the school bully and they wanted to suspend me.” you said into your hand. “He wouldn’t come near me for the longest time. Then in like, sixth grade, I think? My school had a dance. Like, for everyone. He tried to ask me to go with him.” You shook your head.
Dean choked on his beer. “Did you hit him with another lunch box?” He smirked.
You shook your head. “Nah. I slammed my locker shut on his hand. Never spoke to me again.”
Crowley smiled. “Your first date? You were so cute and nervous”
You gave him a sad smile “That memory… it didn’t end so well… I mean, the date itself was 13 kinds of awkward teenage hormones.” You smiled at that for a second. ”but… things were rough at home by then… Mom was dead, and I wasn’t exactly allowed to date so…”
His smile faded. “I’m sorry, darling… I…”
“Crowley.” You smiled at him, cutting him off, as you got out of your chair and walked over to him. He stood, and you wrapped your arms around him. “You were there, Crowley. You were there for all the important moments in my life, you were there. I can’t even tell you how happy and loved that makes me feel. I’m at a place in my life where I can look back on those times, and not feel pain. Now, I can look back and see that hope was there all along, because you were.”
A tear rolled down your cheek as Crowley kissed the top of your head. “Oh, Darling.”
Sam cleared his throat. “Lets give them a minute.” Dean looked over at the pie on the counter “Just take the damn pie, Dean, lets go.”
You chewed on your lip while the others left the room, Dean carrying the damn pie. It made you chuckle. He’d live off pie if you let him. Now that you were alone with him, you didn’t know what the hell to say. You sat down next to Crowley, who sat back in his chair.
“I’m sorry.” Crowley told you. Your head whipped to face him, shock and confusion written on your face. “For not really being there when you needed me. I should have taken you when your mother died.” He sighed. “But, I didn’t.”
You placed your hand over his. “It’s okay. I’m fine.”
“Now you are.” He locked eyes with yours. “Dean told me.”
“…Told you what?”
Crowley took a sip of his whiskey. “That night. Well, he started with telling me about how they had a case in town. He told me about knocking on your door and he knew something was wrong. He told me about Moose seeing you in the store and making you take his card. About you calling them that night. About the weeks after.” His voice went from sad, to angry, to sad.
You gave him a sad smile. “It’s only made me stronger, Dad.” That’s how you chose to see it. “They saved me. They let me be a teenager. They took me in. This awkward, sad shell of a girl. They let me go whenever I needed a break from hunting. Because they trusted me.” Sighing, you sipped your wine. “I’m not fond of thinking of the years after mom died, or the weeks after the boys found me. But, they’ve made my life worth it.”
“I find myself hating them a tiny bit less.”
Getting up, you hugged him. “You should actually thank them. If they hadn’t found me, and that man didn’t kill me that night…I would have done it myself.” You kissed the top of his head, your thoughts getting to you. “Excuse me for a few. I just need to go get some air.” You patted his shoulder and walked out, leaving him to his thoughts.
You stood outside enjoying the cool breeze and figuring out your thoughts. A small part of you was upset that Crowley didn’t take you when she died. But most of you was oddly glad. Your experiences made you who you were, they were the reason you met the love of your life. You would have been raised to hate them, and would probably be engaged to some demon lord… Were there demon lords? Or did everyone just claim king of their domain like Crowley had..?
You were pulled from your thoughts as you felt huge hands on your shoulders. “Sammy.” you smiled, half turning your head to him.
He kissed your cheek. “Are you alright? It’s chilly tonight, why are you standing out here alone?”
You turned, hugged him and put you head on his chest. “Sorting my thoughts.” You told him. “I was honest with him, and I hope he isn’t angry.”
“About what?”
You sighed. “That if you hadn’t saved me, and that demon didn’t end up killing me… I would have done it myself.”
He held you tighter. “Good thing we came along then, huh? The world is better for having you in it.” He kissed the top of our head. “Come on, back inside before Dean eats both pies. And you still haven’t shown off your ring to Cas.”
You stretched up to peck his lips. “Thank you for coming along. You guys didn’t have to take me in, but you did.” Your fingers laced with his as you walked back inside.
Once inside, you looked around. “Where’s Dad?” You asked.
Dean shrugged, serving himself a slice of pie. “I don’t know. He said he would be right back. Seemed kinda pissed.” Your heart sank. Was it because of what you said?
Crowley appeared outside the room that your ‘father’ was in. He walked in, ignoring Alistair. “Hello.” Crowley growled. “I’m just here to put the fear of me in you. You caused my daughter great pain. I have just come to realize how much. Tomorrow, you will regret the day you ever set eyes on her. Now, while my wonderful associate here works on you, times that by ten. That still won’t even come close to the pain you’re about to feel.” He seethed, close to the man’s ear. “And you will not be blindfolded. You will watch as I carve into you, as I take great joy in making you bleed.”
Alistair watched, amused. “Shall I work on another tomorrow?” He asked.
Turning to the demon, Crowley shook his head. “I have another assignment for you. I will tell you tomorrow.”
When Crowley reappeared, he silently watched as Cas talked about how beautiful your ring was, while Sam nodded from behind you, letting him know he was saying all the right things. Dean as serving pie for everyone. He smiled. They weren’t his favorite people, but they were pretty much family. When you turned, seeing him, you smiled. He loved how your face lit up when you saw him. It was something he was not use to. “Sorry, Love.” he smiled stepping into the room. “Call came in. Now how about some of that pie. Oh! And your presents. Here, love.” He handed you a small velvet box. You opened it to reveal two simple gold bands. You could tell they were old. Smiling, you hugged him tight. “I think that Squirrel plans to give you something else later on.”
You were relieved that nothing was wrong between the two of you. Soon, you were all sitting around the living room eating you pie. “Hey, Dad? Do you think you could do the living thing and FBI thing for Dean, too?” You smiled. “He deserves it.”
Crowley chuckled and nodded. “Planned on it, love.” Dean did a silent ‘yes’, making you laugh.
Cas watched the interaction between you and Crowley for a few moments. “I must admit, I was worried about the ramifications of Crowley being your father.” He started. “However, it is clear that he is a very loving father.”
You smiled. “He has been, yes.” He wasn’t perfect, especially about 2 months ago, but, if you knew one thing, it was that the road to hell was paved with good intentions. Why should the King be any different.
“But,” Cas started. “No one has answer my second question yet. Why are you wearing.. “ Dean cut him off, whispering in his ear. His eyes went wide. “Sam, you should really be more gentle and caring with the woman you love. She may be a hunter, but she is still a very delicate creature, and …”
Crowley glared at him and Sam cut him off. “Okay.. well.. awkward conversations now out of the way…” Dean was laughing.
Your cheeks were bright red. “Sam, take Cas and talk to him, please. To avoid this in the future…”
He grumbled. “Why me? He’s Dean’s husband”
“For one, Dean will make it worse and you know it.”
Dean glared at you. “Hey!” then he registered what Sam had said. “Hey!!”
“And two,” you continued. “Think of it as practice for when we have children and you have to have the talk with them.”
“Them?” he smiled. “As in multiple?”
“If you’re lucky.” you smirked.
Crowley sighed. “Really? I’m not ready to be a grandfather. I’m still getting used to being a father.” He looked at you.
You got up and kissed the top of his head. “You have time, Dad.” You smiled. “I’m only twenty-four. I’m in no hurry.”
“But Sam’s thirty. His biological clock has to be ticking.” Dean teased.
Sam motioned for Cas to follow him. Once they were outside, Sam shoved his hands in his pockets and looked at the angel. “Cas, some people enjoy rough sex. I’m not treating her badly. I promise.”
“So, she will always have those marks?”
“No. We’re not always that rough. We’ve just been excited lately. For awhile I didn’t get to see her much, so when we did, we were pent up. Then we got engaged, so that was exciting. Sometimes we make love.” Sam rubbed the back of his neck.
Cas thought for a moment. “I believe I would like to discuss this further with Y/N.” He decided.
Sam chuckled. “Alright…” He moved around Cas towards the door and stepped in. “Cas wants to talk to you. I don’t think he believes me.” He smirked.
You rolled your eyes and laughed. “Don’t let Dad talk you out of ever having kids. He’s adamant about being too young for grand kids.” You whispered as you walked by.
Once outside, you sighed as you stood next to Cas. “You wanted to see me?”
He turned to you. “Sam says you like it rough sometimes?” He tilted his head.
“Sometimes. I assure you, Cas. He’s not actually hurting me.” You patted his cheek gently.
“May I heal you?”
You smiled at him. “Would that make you feel better?” He nodded. “Then you may.” He touched your forehead and you felt his grace move through you.
Cas looked up at the sky, noting how it looked like it would storm. “Promise me that you’ll come to me, should anything ever happen with Crowley.” You raised your eyebrow at him. “I know that he loves you, I can see that. But, he is the King of Hell. I just want you safe, and with knowing you have powers…”
“I promise, Cas.” You hugged him close. “Your the best brother- in-law a girl could ask for.”
“You are aware I’m not married to Dean, right? Why does everyone keep implying that I am?”
You chuckled. “I meant that you’re close to the boys, Cas. You two act like a married couple at times. It’s just a joke, all in good fun.”
Sam was on the couch, drinking a beer and laughing with Dean. Crowley just sat back, observing the two. You walked in with Cas, your arm looped through his. “So, you set him straight?” Dean asked.
“For the most part. I’m leaving the birds and the bees talk up to you.” You teased.
He rolled his eyes and smiled.
“You seem to be enjoying yourself dad.”
“The night wasn’t half bad.” He smiled at you. “Dinner was delicious darling. I shall be going soon. I know you’ll want to be alone with your future husband, and I want some sleep again tonight.” You blushed.
Dean groaned. “Aw man. Take me with you.”
Crowley chuckled. “Alistair wouldn’t mind seeing his favorite human again.”
“Never mind.” Dean turned back to his beer.
You thought for a moment. “Why not pop him somewhere else? He really doesn’t get vacations. I’d do it, but I don’t want to screw something up. Maybe bring him to a beach or something.” It seemed only fair.
Cas stood up. “I can bring him. I’d like to talk to him anyway.” He offered.
Dean jumped up. “You are my savior.” He grinned. Turning to you, he pointed to you. “You better get some wedding ideas. Tomorrow, I’m stealing you.”
You raised an eyebrow at him. “You? You want to help plan a wedding? Mr. Eternally Single?” You joked.
“Eh. I figure the sooner you two get married, the sooner I’ll get to live in peace.”
“Where do you think we’ll be living?” Sam asked amused.
“Uh, hell?”
Crowley sighed. “I’m not going to be here for this. Love you, Darling.” And he was gone.
“I think maybe we’ll room right next to your bedroom” you winked at Sam, who laughed at the expression on Deans face.
Sam shook his head, wrapping his arms around you. “Nah, we’ll save that room for a nursery.” Dean’s face paled. “Don’t worry Dean, you have plenty of time.”
“Get me out of here.” he all but growled at Cas. And they were gone
