➵ hold; character a has been holding in their tears for a while, embarrassed to cry in front of other people. though as soon as character b takes them into their arms, the barrier breaks and they burst into tears.
➵ hide; character a is too embarrassed to cry in front of character b so they try and hide their face so they can’t see that they’re crying, but character b can tell something is wrong.
➵ tired; character a has been crying for so long that they’re exhausted, and character b holds them as they fall into a tearful sleep.
➵ dream; character a wakes up in tears after a nightmare, and character b holds them and calms them down.
➵ yesterday; it’s clear to character a that character b was crying the night before (puffy red eyes, sore throat, clearly exhausted), and approaches them gently about what happened.
➵ ring; character a calls character b in tears over something, and character b rushes from wherever they were to be with them.
➵ hurt; character a gets hurt somehow, and as character b is mending them up they feel guilty as character a starts to cry in pain.
➵ covers; character a gets into character b’s bed in the middle of the night. at first character b is confused, though they hear character a crying and hold them for the rest of the night.
➵ care; character a finds character b crying, and because they’re so worked up character a helps them get into bed (changing clothes, taking medication, tucking them into bed).
➵ good; character a says something quite meaningful to character b, though they worry when character b starts crying, though they’re crying with happy tears.
➵ “are you okay?” “i’m just so tired… i just want to stop.”
➵ “have you been crying?” “no.” “please don’t lie to me, i care about you.”
➵ “i feel so stupid.” “don’t ever feel stupid for having a normal reaction to a situation that you couldn’t control.”
➵ “am i upsetting you too?” “no, i just hate seeing you so upset. i wish i could make you feel better.”
➵ “i didn’t mean to listen in but… i heard you crying.”
➵ “honey what’s wrong? why are you so upset?”
➵ “shh take a deep breath, you’re working yourself up too much.”
➵ “please calm down, you’re going to make yourself sick.”
➵ “i’ve got you, you’re okay. i promise.”
➵ “here, drink some water. have a minute.”
➵ “[name] said you were crying earlier. need to talk?”
➵ “you look like you haven’t slept, are you alright?”
➵ “i love you, okay? i know it’s hard right now but i’ll always be here for you.”
