Hey, hope you don't mind my asking, but do you know anything about gravestones looking like tree stumps? I know you like symbology. I was visiting my family graves today and kept noticing stones made to look like trees. I thought they were so cool. Here's a couple I saw.

The tree stump usually symbolises a life cut short. The image of the tree with the book is unreadable, but the other one looks to be 2 young boys, judging by the dates.

Also, it's hard to see due to weathering, but the book may have an anchor as a bookmark, which would probably indicate a young navy death.

The Cubone Life-Cycle:

Have you ever wondered about the Cubone life cycle? If a Marowak has to pass away for a Cubone to get a skull then how does their population ever increase? Well you're about to find out!

This life cycle centers around graveyards that are referenced in some Marowak Pokedex entries. Any time a member of this line passes away, others of its species take the remains to the graveyard. These graveyards are carefully hidden and protected since they are also Marowak breeding grounds.

Most Marowak parents don't die after breeding. However, they do generally believe that leaving their Cubone to fend for themselves will make them stronger. Some Marowak leave before the eggs hatch; others nurture their Cubone briefly before abruptly leaving. Occasionally, a Marowak will stay to raise their children, but this is rare. This might seem heartless by our standards, but they genuinely believe this helps their children grow strong.

A Cubone's skull is very unlikely to be from it's mother, but often comes from a recent ancestor. They get their skull and bone club from nearby remains in the graveyard, which is organized by family lines. The reason there are enough skulls for every Cubone is that Marowak have a unique layered skull that breaks apart into multiple skulls - just like bowls nested inside one another.

Hopefully, understanding this unique lifestyle helps us all appreciate the Cubone line even more!

Cemetery Infodump:

The Dollhouse Grave of Vivian Mae Allison

Connersville City Cemetery, Indiana

Vivian died in 1899 at the age of 5. Her father had been working on the dollhouse for her as a gift, and they used it as her gravemarker. They regularly tended to the house until their deaths 70 years later.

Vivian's sister then took up the task of keeping the house in good condition, but after her death the house quickly became a target for vandals, nearly ripped from its foundations and the original interior destroyed.

The city of Connersville then repaired the house and interior, with a recent refurbishment in 2019.
