Chapter 1: The Injury
June 16, 2025
Liv managed to hold back her tears until she made it backstage. Her grip on her forearm tightened as she was guided to medical by a staff member. On the way there, Dom and Raquel appeared. She tuned out their concerns. She was doing enough worrying on her own. WWE had big plans for her for the rest of the year. Depending on how serious this was, her bright and shiny future might fade to black. It wouldn’t be the end of her career. Just an abrupt end to a great run. And she wasn’t ready to be done. Not yet.
Dom helped her sit down on the exam table and she acknowledged him, giving him a small smile. He was handsome and smart, but women were his weakness. This injury also needed to not be serious because she was sure Roxanne was going to offer herself on a silver platter next. She could see Puppetmaster Finn at work. He had helped Liv secure her spot after all and now they weren’t on the best of terms. She needed to be here to stop it.
She glanced over at the other exam table. The doctor was finishing up with Jey Uso. Her eyes locked with his. Liv thought her face was neutral but the way Jey’s face had the most sympathetic look on it made her wonder. He offered a small smile and Liv just nodded. He gingerly pulled on a shirt over his head, covering up his taped-up ribs. Jey paused before heading out.
“No matter what, it’s gonna be okay. Alright?” he said, looking at her.
Dom stepped to him and Jey’s upper lip curled.
“Man, watch out,” Jey barked.
“You watch out. You don’t speak to my güerita,” Dom said.
“Gentlemen, please fight outside. I need to examine, Miss Morgan,” the doctor said, shooing them.
Liv saw Jey glance at her before walking out. She wondered what that was about, but everyone was sensitive when injuries happened. She shook it off.
Liv bit her lip so she wouldn’t kick the doctor in the groin as he touched her shoulder. It hurt so much. He lifted her arm up to move her shoulder up and she let out a small scream. Dom and Raquel started questioning the doctor. He held up his hands.
“We’ll put you in the ambulance and get you an x-ray at the hospital. That way we’ll know for sure if we can just pop it back in place or not. I have a feeling it might be a little more serious than that though. But hopefully I’m wrong.”
“You’re definitely wrong,” Raquel said.
“Only one of you can ride in the ambulance with her,” he said. “Let’s put this sling on you and get you ready to go.”
Liv sighed and wiped her eyes. Her eyes were already stinging with tears again. Uncertainty formed a knot in the pit of her stomach.
“Umm, Rocky, can you take my stuff back to the hotel? Pretty please? Dom, can you ride with me?”
“Of course, baby,” Dom said, pressing a kiss to her forehead.
“I got you, Livvy,” Raquel said.
On the way to the ambulance, Finn and Roxanne appeared in the hallway. She felt her blood boil.
“I hope it’s nothing serious and you’ll be back soon,” Roxanne said. She seemed genuine, but she didn’t trust her. Liv nodded her head.
“Keep us posted,” Finn said. “I’ll get your stuff, Dom.”
“Thanks, hermano,” Dom said, bumping his fist to Finn’s.
As Liv was strapped in, they gave her some pain medication. Liv cried on the way to the hospital. Dom stroked her hair and told her everything was gonna be alright and that he was here. She tried to relax, but she couldn’t help but wonder how long he would be there for her. He rubbed his nose against hers and she kissed him, desperate for a distraction. They kissed for a few minutes, not worried about the paramedic. Liv felt her unease fade away.
When they got to the hospital, she felt her unease flood back. She squeezed Dom’s hand and he kissed it. She took the x-ray quickly, but they ended up waiting for about an hour. The doctor came in with the worst news: she would need surgery and physical therapy. She wouldn’t be able to wrestle for at least six months. Six months?! That was the end of the year. Her 2025 was over. Her hot streak was snuffed out. She wanted to scream, but only tears fell.
Dom carefully pulled her into a hug, her head resting on his chest. He kissed her forehead. The doctor assured her that she would be scheduled in Florida, near her home. She probably wouldn’t get surgery until Wednesday or Thursday because they wanted to let the swelling reduce. They gave her more pain medication. She started to tune stuff out. She just wanted to go to sleep. Dom was saying he would go home to grab some stuff and come and stay with her after surgery. Liv nodded, not really listening. Devastated that she would be missing Evolution, devastated she wouldn’t be able to perform in her home state at SummerSlam. She let the tears roll down her face and Dom wiped each one away as they walked out the hospital. WWE had sent a car for them and they rode back to the hotel. Dom updated everyone and Liv doomscrolled. She saw someone familiar in her Instagram DMs. They weren’t following each other so she almost missed it. She had a message from Ucey Jucey, Jey Uso’s real IG account. She made a mental note to check it later, not wanting Dom to see and get riled up again.
At the hotel, Finn and Raquel help put their stuff in their hotel room. Dom helped Liv into her pajamas. His phone lit up and she saw he got a message from Roxanne. Dread pooled in the pit of her stomach. She felt it spread as he picked up his phone and smirked at the message. It looked like he was studying it. Could it be a picture?
“Don’t cheat on me with Roxanne,” Liv said.
Dom looked confused. “I won’t.”
Liv glared at him and Dom sighed.
“Look, we’ve already talked about this. I won’t ever cheat on you again. Are we ever gonna, like, move past this?” he asked.
It was a picture on his phone last time. Actually multiple pictures. She had grabbed his phone to hand it to him because he had gotten a message. She had done it plenty of times before. But the number wasn’t saved. She thought it might be a scam so she unlocked his phone and checked. Three pictures from a very naked, very busty brunette. Liv had scrolled up before tossing him his phone and looked at him expectantly. They had been packing to go on their press run in India. Liv knew she was gonna have to reach deep into her acting bag for the press when she saw him go pale as a ghost. He stammered he could explain, but what was there to explain? She knew it wasn’t some brave woman sending random nudes. He knew her. He had slept with her. Fortunately, they were already planning on staying in separate rooms so when work was done, she would lock herself in there. They had managed to work it out and were good by WrestleMania. When she was in Japan working on her movie, she had been nervous. And now it didn’t help that she was gonna be out for a while and Roxanne would still be there sniffing behind Dom.
“I’m trying really hard,” Liv said. “It would help if you made sure Roxanne didn’t become an official part of Judgement Day.”
“Finn’s been working hard to recruit her and she’s helped you and Raquel.”
“More like she’s gotten in my way,” Liv said, rolling her eyes. “I don’t want her in the group. Raquel will also vote against her. Get Finn and JD on board.”
“I’ll try,” Dom said.
“You better,” Liv said, before heading to the bathroom.
She brushed her teeth and haphazardly washed her face. She got in bed, lying on her left side. The pain medication was helping, but her shoulder still hurt. Dom got ready for bed. Liv scrolled and knew she wasn’t gonna be able to fall asleep. She made her way back to Instagram and read Jey’s message:
Jey: Hey! I hope things went well at the doctor. Wishing you a speedy recovery.
Liv: Hi. Things did not go well at the doctor. The recovery won’t be as speedy as I’d like.
Liv was surprised to see he was online. He was typing.
Jey: what’s the diagnosis?
Liv: Surgery. Out a minimum of six months depending on how I heal.
Jey: Damn. I’m sorry. It’s gonna be tough, but you can handle it. Keep your head up.
Liv: Why did you message me?
Jey: You didn’t just look sad. You looked broken. I didn’t like that. I know Judgment Day has your back so I shouldn’t be too worried, but at some parts during Jimmy’s recovery, he had a really hard time. He was missing the road and missing the ring. Feeling like he wasn’t gonna get another opportunity to stand out. And now look at him. You’re gonna be just fine. Fans were cheering for you while you were in Japan. They will be waiting for you to come back.
Liv smiled. She felt Dom settle into bed next to her. He gently touched her waist.
“You still up?” he asked.
“Yeah, texting Raquel,” Liv said.
“Okay. I’ll try to keep still, but if I move too much and bother you, just wake up, okay?”
“Okay, papi,” Liv said.
“Goodnight, mi amor,” he said.
“Goodnight, babe,” she replied.
Liv: Thanks Jey. I appreciate it.
Jey: No problem. I know you got a lot of people in your corner, but you can count me in too.
Liv: What does Rhea have to say about that?
Jey: Rhea and I broke up in January. She’s got a new boyfriend now. Buddy Matthews.
Liv: Ooo, sorry Uso.
Jey: It’s okay. Some things just don’t work out no matter how bad you want them to.
Liv: True. I’m gonna try to get some rest. Goodnight Jey.
Jey: Goodnight Liv.
Liv closed Instagram and resisted the urge to get on Twitter. She would deal with the wave of well wishes tomorrow. Dom sounded like he was asleep already. Liv snuggled into her pillow and closed her eyes. She thought about how the match should’ve gone, how she should’ve beat Kairi Sane. Soon she was fast asleep.
