today, i went into the city with my sister to go buy some cheap bag because my current one doesn't close properly anymore (the locks are broken). we got one and wanted to go back to the main station via tram, and while we were in the stuffed tram, i wanted to look up the time on my cell, and then i put it back into my pocket. when i did that, i already faintly noticed the man standing next to me having an interest in what i did (keep in mind, this was the bag that didn't close properly). i turned towards my sister to talk to her and like 10 or so seconds later, i noticed his hands near my waist (the height of my bag) and thought he wanted to grope me, but he didn't. but i had a ominous feeling about this, so i opened my bag and looked for my wallet (which i was sure must have been in there before because i would have noticed when i pocketed my cell), but it was missing. for a moment there, i thought i might have lost it, but when we arrived at the next stop a few seconds later and the man exited the train with that kind of psychopathic straightforwardness people who want to leav the scene of their crime asap, i knew that that piece of shit stole it.
i went after him (my sister followed after a moment, confused) and said something about my wallet and that i think he has it and that i wanna see his pockets (in german). he pretended to be confused ans showed me his very obvious jacket pockets, and then instead of taking the elevator he had been waiting on, he went over to the stairs. i check my bag and my shopping bag again, but i was only more convinced by his behavior (because his reaction was so unnatural) that i pursued him. i went after him the first flight of stairs and told him that he had my wallet and that i wanted to see his pockets again (in german) and he dismissed me and went up the ther stairs and said, 'i don't know what you want from me' (in english). he probably expected me to be thrown off my his english (because there are enough germans who would probably be instantly shying away from confronting someone in english, esp because many don't know the proper word for wallet), so i went after him on the second flight of stairs.
when he reached the platform which was empty save for us, i told him very clearly in english that i thought he had my wallet and that i wanted it back. he looked at me with the same kind of psychotic, straightforward stare as his walking away from me had been. he said something like, "you think i stole your wallet?" and i responded with something like, "yes, and i want it back" and he said "you want your wallet back? you want it back?", to which i responded with something like, "yes, give me back my wallet."
that fucking entitled piece of trash then pulled out my wallet from the inside of his jacket and handed it to me, saying "i give it back to you and you go away, you understand?" and he stared at me in a way that told me that he would punch my face in if i wouldn't. i then quickly checked the contents of my wallet (everything still there) and then looked at him and told him what a piece of shit he was, and he then turned around and fled.
after that, my sister (who at first didn't get what was happening) and i took another train. i probably should have called the police or somethng, but i really rather wanted to get back to the main station. going after him wouldn't have made any sense, because like i said, i'm convinced he would have hurt me without any hesitation, that goddamn coward. i might be messaging the public transportation company and ask them if they got video footage or anything. i don't really wanna report him to the police, not because i don't think he deserves it, but cause i got no money to pay the lawyer and i actually don't have the time nor mood for this. but i think it's important that they put out posters of his face, so people will know that he's a pickpokcet and he's around.
i gotta be honest here: when i say 'i was sure', what i mean is 'i picked up on his weird behavior and suspected him and was convinced that i have had my wallet just moments before, that i had not made a mistake and lost it'. each time he tried to slip away, i checked my bag again, but it wasn't there, and his non-committed, fleeing behavior made him all the more suspicious. i didn't know, but i trusted myself in that i knew that i generally take good care of my stuff. i am sure he had expected me to back off right away, with a smile even, because what i did was very rude and i am a young woman you was 'randomly' blaming someone for a crime. but i didn't. i thought that it didn't matter if i was rude because it's okay sometimes, especially if you believe some just stole your fucking wallet.
so what i learnt from this is: always trust your gut instincts and don't back down too quickly. never trust a man whose finger are too close to what you consider precious. always use a bag that you can close properly.
