I see your Huge Chubby 99th Percentile Hollanov Baby, and I raise you this:
Little Preemie Hollanov Baby
(this will be a little vague so you can interpret it as mpreg, surrogacy, or adoption)
Shane and Ilya's baby is born early, unexpectedly and suddenly. They're in the hospital before they can fully accept that today, they become fathers.
She is born, and she is little, not quite 5 pounds (~2.2kg). Everything about her seems even smaller when Shane and Ilya get to hold her. Miniscule fingers and toes. Teeny ears. She is so, so small in their arms.
The doctors informs them that she will need to stay at the hospital longer, and based on her chest movements, her lungs are likely underdeveloped, and she will need to be in the NICU.
At that point, all Shane and Ilya can do it look at their little girl through a pane of glass, sensors taped on all of her extremities, canula pressed into her nose, incubator keeping her warm and protected. Yes, they get the hold her when they visit, but every day they go home with no baby.
Shane doesn't sleep. He's up at all hours trying to make some sort of plan to make this all go away. He's going in circles with research about premature babies, risks, recovery, growth charts, gaining weight, healthy newborn indicators, respiratory distress, NICU infection rates, home newborn medical care, caring for preemie babies, baby-parent bonding stages. All he needs is a plan. A course of action. But the doctors inform him that they need to play care by ear. If Baby responds well, then she will go home, but he can't say for certain when she will be okay to leave the NICU.
Ilya is the opposite. He retreats into himself. He sleeps almost too much. When they go to the hospital, the thought of seeing and holding his daughter nearly gives him a panic attack. He will only make it worse, do something that will hurt her or make her sick. This was probably his fault to begin with. He doesn't know what he would have done, maybe just karma, but Ilya knows he played some role in Baby's less than perfect first days of life. He finds comfort in being able to leave Baby in the NICU because she is safer there than in his arms.
They're both powerless, a feeling neither of them find any solace in.
Then the day comes. Baby is coming home.
They strap her into her car seat, and despite pulling the straps as tight as they will go, they still seem loose. Everyone is packed into the Land Rover, Shane driving and Ilya in the back with Baby. Shane drives like a grandma, and every little bump or brake, he's looking in the rearview and asking Ilya is Baby is okay.
"Yes Shane, she is okay."
"I didn't see that swell in the pavement. Are you sure?"
"She is asleep. She has been asleep entire drive."
When they arrive home, Anya is losing her mind because Dads are home! They were gone! So long! Time to play! What are you holding? What are you holding? What are you holding? What are you holding?
Ilya holds Anya as still as he can manage as Shane gingerly sets the car seat carrier on the floor. Anya is whining and stomping her feet, desperate to investigate this strange creature. Ilya continues to hold her as he slowly guides her to Baby.
And Anya is all sniff sniff sniff sniff sniff sniff sniff sniff sniff "No kisses, Anya" sniff sniff sniff sniff sniff sniff sniff sniff sniff "Gentle!" sniff sniff sniff sniff sniff sniff sniff
Moving her from the car seat to the bouncer is like defusing a bomb. There's a lot of "support her head! Her neck!" and "is everything out of the way?" and "slow... Slow... Is she okay?" When they finally get her safety in there, Shane and Ilya kinda just stare at her. Baby is asleep, moving occasionally. Maybe this will be okay.
Yuna and David come over of course and are so delighted with the tiny bundle of joy. They're talking about bottles and diaper sizes and kid proofing the house. Unfortunately, the majority of the baby clothes Shane and Ilya got, include Shane's handmedowns are too big for baby currently, but she'll grow! Speaking of growing, did you set up your next pediatrics appointment? Did the doctor say anything about a weight gain schedule? What about vaccines? Have you looked into preschools? The good ones have ling wait lists.
Their whirlwind conversation is interrupted when Baby starts to cry, then it's all hands on deck to check on her, prepare bottle, feed her, no not like that tip the bottle more, support her head! Okay now burps why won't she burp? Do we need to call the hospital? Does she need her diaper changed? Where are the smallest diapers? How do you swaddle? She's escaped again!!
Shane and Ilya eventually post a baby announcement picture of one of them holding Baby, and the fan base goes crazy because she looks extra EXTRA small tucked into their muscular arms.
And before there's a bunch of "link pls 🩷" "omg someone write this!" "I need a fic!" I'M WORKING ON IT OKAY! Fanfics are a labor of love geeeez
A rougher Hollanov kid
I LOVE reading all the parent Hollanov fics and musings. And I love all the ideas about Shane and Ilya being girl dads, or having a blend of girls and boys, a whole gaggle of kids, or just one, or adopting from Russia. And it just occurred to me that a running theme is their kids being really sweet - even vulnerable - due to either being infants or having medical complications or being gay or just being mild kids. And these are all perfectly sweet ideas that give Shane and Ilya the wonderful, sweet, wholesome family life we dream of for them.
BUT
What about the opportunity for Shane and Ilya to parent a kid that others might find "too much"? A bigger pre-teen/teen dude oozing with toxic masculinity. He'd be intimidating for other families, but not Shane and Ilya. He might even hate the idea of going with two queer dudes, but foster care is shit and these guys have money, so... And he thinks all the things an immature kid would understandbly assume about them since they have money..."you don't understand me and my trauma," etc. Unfortunately for him, Ilya has his number DOWN. "Oh, you think your birth family was shit and foster family was shit, so you get to be little shit? Let me tell you about my shit father" And this kid is SAT because, Jesus the stuff Ilya's talking about is effed up. And also like... just try to stare down THEE Ilya Rosanov. And like, Ilya and Shane would never threaten with violence, but Ilya is the perfect kind of shit-talker to reach this kid - at least enough to get him to shut up and think for a minute. And when the kid tries to lash out with insults, it just bounces off, because, duh, Shane and Ilya were queer in professional hockey and have heard it all. And also, again, Ilya is a pro shit-talker. Meanwhile, Shane's directness from being autistic and a genuinely kind person totally disarms this kid. The passive-aggressive tactics don't work. And Shane is married to Ilya Gremlin-of-chaos Rosanov. He's practiced at finding patience by now, so things never escalate the way they did with other people. I just picture Shane and Ilya being a great combo to get a kid all wound up in defensiveness and trauma to settle down, breathe, and learn "how to family[verb]." And the whole time, he's got to confront his idea of what "being a man" is, because there's no denying Shane and Ilya as masculine, but they model a totally different version than this kid is used to.
As an alternative detail to this idea, they get a similarly standoffish Russian pre-teen/teen who has absorbed every ounce of homophobic propaganda before being placed with Shane and Ilya.
Snippet idea: First visit to the cottage.
Shane, Ilya, and grumpy kid sitting at the fire pit.
Kid: "So, what, we just sit here and look at it?"
Ilya, sly grin on his face: "Yes, we just sit here and look at it."
Kid: (big sigh, eye roll)
Later, Shane to the kid: "You wanna go back inside?"
Kid: ".......not just yet."
When Ilya, Shane and the Hollanovlings go to Montreal to visit the pikes, they love to go to that park in Montreal that uses sheep to mow their lawn (their favourite is one of the trouble makers that has a bell around their neck).
I would love any recs with Ilya and Shane either becoming dads, or being dads. Ty for working on this despite having such a busy schedule!
I have a huge bias for kid fics, so this did not take me a long time.
I’ve been busy, but I am having a lot of fun while doing it. Right now, I am going through a lot of personal and academic growth that I know will pay off in the long run.
Anyway I hope you enjoy these fics!

“And starting at center, your captain, #24, Shane Hollander.” The crowd erupts right as the announcer finishes. “Phoebe say ‘go daddy!’” Ilya tells her, lifting her up so she's now standing on his thighs. The camera cuts to Ilya and Phoebe for a second giving the whole arena a view of Phoebe cheering for Shane. “Looks like Hollander has an extra supporter tonight.” One of the announcers quips before the screen returns to the players on the ice. The game starts and Phoebe is loving it. She’s watching intently and cheering along with the crowd, although sometimes for the wrong team. - What's cuter then Shane and Ilya? Shane and Ilya taking their toddler to her first hockey game!
This one is so sweet. It isn't super long, but it is a nice little snapshot into WAG Ilya and their kid.

It’s worse these days—his reaction to Shane looking at him or being in his presence. Ilya thinks it’s just his body’s natural reaction to Shane, but recently Shane's hair has been littered with graying strands and Ilya finds it harder and harder not to drop to his knees every time Shane enters a room. - Ilya Rozanov and Shane Hollander love each other, love their daughter, and thank all heavens that Svetlana Vetrova is in their lives.
This is mostly smut but it is still a solid fic. To be honest I need to start reading the tags more often.

Ilya is not the least bit surprised by Mali’s excitement over a new kid. What has, however, surprised him is the new kid’s parent flirting with his husband. Ilya doesn’t like it. Not one bit. or Ilya and Shane go to pick their kid up from school and Shane gets flirted with. Ilya is decidedly not a fan.

Spoilers for the book The Long Game
“I pee on a stick every day, take my temperature, app tells me when to fuck,” Ilya summarises succinctly. “App says we fuck today. Possibly tomorrow also.” “Tomorrow too?” Shane teases. “Are you just trying to get into my pants?” “If I was just trying to get into your pants I wouldn’t be on bottom,” Ilya points out, and he does have a point there. Not that topping is unpleasant, or anything, but it’s not exactly something Shane tends to do without an occasion. “I also wouldn’t have to use app. I would say ‘Hollander, get your dick out,’ and you get your dick out.” “Are you calling me easy?” “Yes. We are both easy, it is the best thing about our relationship.” ————— Shane and Ilya want kids, preferably soon. The details of making that happen prove to be slightly more complicated than initially anticipated
By far one of my favorite mpreg out there. You can tell the author has done research and knows their stuff. I like how it isn't rushed, and they take time for the pregnancy. I have not been able to read this recently, and it has been torture.
The author is on tumblr @absurdistaffair so go support them!
During his last season with Montreal, some disgruntled fan hires an Etsy witch to curse Shane with period cramps. In their mind it’s a relatively harmless curse but still enough to mess up his play enough for their team to win against Montreal. To their surprise, this actually works incredibly well. Shane Hollander leaves the game halfway through and the rest of his team isn’t able to hold it together.
What the disgruntled fan doesn’t know is that Shane Hollander now has a uterus that gives him cramps every month but can also receive the baby that Ilya has been trying to fuck into Shane for over a decade. The fan goes on about their life, pleased with their investment, only to pale a little bit years later when Shane Hollander comes back from a year off of hockey with his and Ilya’s baby and a really unconvincing story about surrogacy and a baby that looks exactly like both of them.
Shane is initially distraught over having (seemingly randomly) grown a new organ (and a coochie that he doesn’t know how to feel about) and Ilya is trying to be supportive while absolutely vibrating with glee.
guys I know that ilya and shane wouldn't show their kids faces on the internet, but for the sake of my posts im gonna show their faces. just imagine they are covered ok.
