The Sisters Graeae (#4 in my "Quest firnthe Gorgon Head" series)
As Perseus was the son of Zeus, the gods heard his prayers. Athena answered, offering strategic information on the only ones who knew the locations of the The Gorgon sisters, were in fact, another set of three sisters; the sisters Graeae. These are three gray haired old hags with swan like bodies, who share but one eye and tooth between them. Hermes, God of travelers and ally to mortals, also offered his guidance to the distant realm. After many weeks of difficult trekking, Perseus found himself on the island of Cisthene, in the craggy land of the sisters Graeae. Sneaking upon the women, he waited until they passed their one eye between them, snatching it away, and threatening to heave it into the sea. The Graeae gave in, revealing the location of the Gorgon sisters. But it would be no easy task. The gorgon sisters had golden wings, bronze hands, snakes for hair, and worst of all, their gazes turned men to stone. Perseus would need sacred weapons for such a mission. And, according to Athena, there was only one group who could provide them: the sea nymphs.
With the 3 sisters we can see the first of many examples of the “triple goddess” archetype in Old world mythology. Some are represented with one body and three forms (triple bodied Hekate) while most are three individuals. (i.e. “The Morai” (fates), “the Horai” (seasons) “The Furies,” “The Hesperides,”(graces) and “the Gorgons.”) We can see other examples from other ancient cultures, like the Norse “Norns” or the Christian holy trinity of the father, son, and holy spirit. Even Shakespeare, a student of Greek myth and poetry, chose three witches to prophecy to Macbeth.

It wasn’t when my childhood dog died
Or when my father left us
Or how the first boy I loved didn’t love me back
It wasn’t when my cousin tried to end his life
Or when I couldn’t share my sad thoughts cause he already did and my family couldn’t take much more.
It was when you first kissed me
That I realized how cruel the world really is.
How could the universe give me something so wonderful, so gentle and loving
Just to take it away when life expires
Icarus Travels
"Greetings, this is Icarus Travels, here to help your journey to what your heart desires most and to help you fight off the fear of falling." This is what greeted the lost woman as she passed by the entrance way of a rather extravagant travel agency. The woman knew that this wasn't here before because she's taken this path through the area many times before. However, she was quite curious and debated on giving the place just a small look. It's not like she had anywhere else to go since her and her wife had divorced. Maybe she could find a nice start somewhere else if she had the money for it. Even if the idea of having money was quite laughable at the moment. The woman didn't notice when she stsrted talking quietly to herself and mistakenly wished her thoughts out loud. So lost in thought, the woman sadly, didn't feel a dark emerald cuff snap onto her wrist before a hand grabbed her shoulder.
"Madame are you okay?" A musical voice asked from behind her. The woman jumped and quickly turned to see where the hand connected to and let out quiet gasp. The woman in front of her was remarkably beautiful. Almost like she was built from pure porcelain and marble with the most emerald green eyes she's ever seen. The woman responded with her name automatically as she couldn't stop staring at the emerald eyes beauty. "It's a pleasure to meet you Katherine, why don't we get you settled down with some tea before discussing your payment for your journey." Katherine couldn't stop the little twitch of her hand as she wanted to touch to beautiful woman in front of her. The words different register to her that she was tricked into something. Her mother always said she had little self-preservation when it came to things she desired. "You may call me Victoria until our business is settled." Said the emerald beauty as she came back in with tea.
"Business? What business exactly are we talking about?" Katherine asked in confusion. Victoria just smiled a sweet almost innocent smile as she should Katherine her wrist. Looking down in shock, she tried to take the cuff off. "Now, now, please calm down. Everything is fine." Victoria's musical voice whispered into her mind as she felt her body instantly calm. Katherine knew she should not be calming down and she be getting scared but couldn't. Something in her mind was being blocked as she tried to understand what was happening. Then she noticed one odd thing that happened. "I don't go by Katherine, why would I introduce myself to you has Katherine." She asked this to herself before hearing laugh that sounded like when chimes. Looking up at Victoria, she couldn't help but flinch a way from her as everything started to sink in. "You are a fae and I just gave you my real name." Katherine whispered as her hands shook.
The being named Victoria just smirked at her as her form shifted to a more elegant being that did not fit working in a travel agency. Her emerald and silver dress draped over her body like a waterfall of vines as she moved to pick up her cup of tea. "I really wish you humans kept up the habit of telling real fairytales instead of those happy go luck Disney movies" Victoria said with a touch of annoyance and dark amusement. She then reached into her bag and pulled out a contract. "You should sign this in two places. At the top right and bottom right" she said as she slapped a pen into Katherine's hand. Katherine knew deals with Faes never ended well but was already beyond screwed so she signed the contract without bothering to read it.
Victoria smiled happily, even if the smile didn't reach her eyes as she took the contract from Katherine. Grabbing Katherine's wrist Victoria set the cuffs for her departure into a new like. "May I at least be happy?" Katherine asked with tears slowly running down her face. "The happiest you'll ever be, that I can promise you." Victoria said as she patted Katherine's shoulder gently and pushed the tea over to her. "Drink your tea, the journey will be quite dehydrating once it starts." Katherine just nodded and did as she was told.
Victoria excitedly got everything together as she prepared her portals. She looked back the human woman Katherine and with a dark grin changed the woman's form in a beautiful black wolfhound. "I think it's time you finally got a chance to be at peace. You will make a great familiar for one of Guardians followers and maybe if you are good, you'll get a body back." Victoria said as she took half of Katherine's life energy and soul. With a dark smile that should nerve be seen on such a pretty face, Victoria pushed Katherine through the portal and closed it. "Thank you for the unexpected gift Emerald, she will be treated well....Also Victoria really? Out of all the names to pick." The Guardian whispered from the darkness with a chuckle before fading away. Emerald pouted at Guardian's little comment before going to clean up her area as she felt a new soul call to her. Ah a soul I can actually punish for once she thought as she made her way happily to the front of the agency. Her workers laughing darkly as they danced temptation from their lips. "Greetings, this is Icarus Travels, here to help your journey to what your heart desires most and to help you fight off the fear of falling."
Dedicated to my favorite emerald @virtuallyinsane who's been a fun little journey getting to know 😘💞
