the danger / delight of dogmatism

such unbearable pity i feel for our pathetic lives, perpetual victims of dogma and superstition:  - how we carry on unthinkingly with our baseless convictions and bias;  - how blind we are to the dangers of holding on to our rigid beliefs and being excessively pious;  - how we unsuspectingly fall prey to the hidden perils of self-righteousness;  - how we ignore the fact that any ideology taken to an extreme is likely to backfire into self-destructiveness.  yet somehow, it all seems darkly delightful, almost to a point of ridicule.  why? well without (self-deprecating) humour, life would simply be tragic yeah? ***  - inspired by: https://www.brainpickings.org/2013/12/13/the-pious-infant-edward-gorey/
