Alternate timeline where Syril Karn meets and gels with Thrawn and Eli Vanto, the latter being perhaps the biggest data nerd in the entire Empire and the former being autistic AF but incredibly intelligent, patient, and hardworking. Syril gets to have a strong presence in his life, comb through Coruscant Excel docs, and be sent off to the Chiss to thrive in a hierarchal, results-driven world.
You know I like to make these things shareware, so… I designed a simple budgeting spreadsheet for some friends this evening, and thought "This is pretty sweet, I bet other people could get some benefit…" (They're Going Through Some Shit, and there's very little I can do from here, but I can, by all the gods, make a spreadsheet.)
Give it a whirl, if you like.
(I am very proud (especially of the referencing bit).)
Still waiting for Spotify and YouTube to update their charts later today but Google has already come through with some beautiful data for a certain eclipse themed song we all know and love during the total solar eclipse we had in the USA on Monday, April 8, 2024...
https://trends.google.com/trends/explore?date=now%201-d&geo=US&q=%2Fg%2F1q5jzj36p,%2Fg%2F1q5j2__98,%2Fg%2F11bzvv1522,%2Fm%2F01qdc_p&hl=en
Look at the time of peak searches. And also note the path of searches on the map...
Map - http://www.nationaleclipse.com
So then I decided to compare with a few top eclipse anthem contenders to see who won the battle. Bonnie blew them all away.
Dark Side of the Moon came in #2 in comparison, followed by #3 Black Hole Sun and #4 Here Comes the Sun. None of them really dominated any city on the map over Bonnie.
Other potential eclipse anthems I checked that rated lower than the Beatles to the 4 listed above: Sound of Silence by Simon and Garfunkel, Steal My Sunshine by Len, Total Eclipse by Iron Maiden, Dark of the Sun by Tom Petty, Promises in the Dark by Pat Benetar, Dancing in the Dark by Bruce Springsteen, Blinded by the Light cover by Bruce Springsteen (would be #5, this version was also more popular than the Manfred Mann's Earth Band version), Ain't No Sunshine When She's Gone by Bill Withers and the individual song Eclipse by Pink Floyd specifically (the album ranked higher). I'm sure I'm missing some but these were at the top of multiple eclipse themed playlists I consulted.
I'm also not sure exactly how many searches this graph corresponds to yet, but I'm sure we'll get recap articles that might have numbers. From a different Google data product, it looks like over 200k searches were done for Total Eclipse of the Heart on Sunday, April 7th alone, the day before (still less than "how to make eclipse glasses" LOL).
Looking forward to Spotify's data. 🌞
Also fun to look at: comparing searches for this song over time with total US eclipses. Possible spikes due to eclipse interest would be 2012 (annular) and 2017 (total) but the 2023 (annular) barely registered. The other spikes may be due to Bonnie performing it on TV (2005) and the TV show Glee covering it (2010).
I'll look at this more later.
But just for fun too, if you've never seen it, check out the Literal lyrics version for the original music video (it was insane, even for the 80's) https://youtu.be/fsgWUq0fdKk?si=CRXE_Zd86GpZa1yG
There has to be someone else on this site who finds this meme I made as funny as I do. Because I think I am fucking hysterical right now.

Roomie: Dude, why do you have four ghosts following you everywhere?
Mamoru: It's a long story.

The perfect costume
Mamoru is studying at his desk when his roommate bursts into the room.
Roomie: Hey man, you got any plans for Halloween—
Mamoru: No.
Roomie: —cuz I have the most beautiful idea for you.
He heads straight for Mamoru's closet and rummages through the neatly arranged hangers until he finds what he's looking for.
Roomie: I just learned about this über-popular character that all the girlies lose their panties for, and you, my friend, would make the per—wait a shittin' minute. Is that why you have this cape??
Mamoru: ¬_¬
Roomie: I knew it! You should totally go this year as... *dramatically sweeps the cape* ...Tuxedo Ramen!
Mamoru: ...
Five minutes later...
Study buddy #1: Sup, fives. What's up with Chiba? He finally crack? I told him 25 credits in a semester was suicide.
Roomie: I think I pronounced some Japanese word wrong. How do you say 'ramen'?
Mamoru: *starts wheezing*
Study buddy #1: Exactly the way it looks, moron. Look, you broke Chiba with your idiocy.
(Next: The care and feeding of guardian ghosts.)

Another new book, another round of posts about reused assets. Much as I find the complaining tiresome, the data backs yall up. 2019 has seen Pixelberry make a huge shift in how it debuts new books.
Have you noticed that each new series has come out towards the end of the month throughout the year? It's a much more even pace than we used to see. (For the record, I am counting the start of a new series as something that gave us a new MC.)
2016 -- 6 new series -- TF, TCATF, MW, ROE, ES, LH
All of these used original art for MC faces.
2017 -- 7 new series -- THOBM, TRR, HERO, HSS, ILITW, HFTH, RCD
2 of these 7 recycled assets -- TRR and HFTH used faces originally created for LH.
2018 -- 12 new series -- PM, BB, VOS, AME, DD, ATV, BSC, HSS:CA, TE, ILB, ACOR, THM
3 of these 12 recycled assets -- some of the faces in PM were originally created for TRR, some of the faces in BSC were originally created for BB, and there was that one black curly bun hairstyle that started cropping up in a few books.
2019 -- 12 new series -- ROD, OH, PTR, WT, NB, PLAT, SK, BP, MOTY, STD, TRM, BABU
10 -- yes 10 -- of these 12 have reused assets. PTR used the faces from AME. WT used the faces from TE. NB used the faces from VOS. STD used the faces from RCD. Some ACOR assets made an appearance in TRM. But 7 out of 12 -- that's over half of the new MCs this year have all used the faces created for OH. OH, PLAT, SK, BP, MOTY, TRM and BABU. And that's just faces, I haven't noted every hairstyle.
So say what you like about the trend, be it in favor or against. Just know, the folks complaining aren't responding to nothing. There is a marked difference in MC art compared to past years.
