As soon as Karma arrived at school that morning, he saw that Nagisa was not at his best. His friend's blue hair was loose and half-covered his eyes, and the blue-haired boy was dragging his feet.

Karma instantly decided that Nagisa wouldn't be spending the day in class. So, almost without thinking, he walked over to his friend's desk and grabbed him by the arm.

"Karma! What are you doing?" Nagisa exclaimed as his friend began dragging him towards the door.

"There's no way you're going to spend the day in class looking like that, we're going out."

Nagisa opened his mouth to protest, but he was getting to know Karma well, and knew there was no point in trying to change his mind, especially about this kind of thing. So the smaller boy let himself be dragged along by his best friend and before he had time to understand anything, he was sitting in a café, a cup of hot chocolate in front of him and Karma in front of him, staring intently at him. Actually, no, Nagisa felt more that Karma was dissecting him with his eyes than anything else, and he began to fidget on the spot.

Finally, Karma broke the silence. "What did she do?"

"Huh?" Nagisa asked, a little confused.

"The women who dares to call herself your mother. What did she do last night?"

"Nothing!" Nagisa replied quickly. Too quick to be credible, and he knew it. "Well, nothing more than usual." He corrected, looking away.

"Hmm." Karma simply said, still watching her. "Can I at least do your hair? Or would you rather keep your hair down like that today?"

"No, you can. It's just... I didn't have the strength to do it this morning..." Nagisa sighed, head bowed.

"It's okay. That's why I'm here. The usual?" Karma asked, reaching into his bag and pulling out a brush and two rubber bands.

"You always have that in your bag?" Nagisa wondered.

"My two best friends have hair longer than their backs, so you have to have foresight." Karma replied with a shrug. "Same as usual?" He repeated, positioning himself behind his friend.

Nagisa didn't answer immediately, but nodded and Karma set to work, running his hand through the other boy's long hair.

The E-11 immediately relaxed, a small sigh escaping his lips and his shoulders loosening a little. After the nightmare that had been his night, Karma's attentions were doing him a world of good.

In less time than it takes to say it, Nagisa's hair was combed into its usual two high tails.

"Thanks, Karma." Nagisa said, running a hand through his hair.

"That's normal. Now, what do you want to do today?"

After that, Karma and Nagisa spent the day together, doing what Nagisa felt like doing and nothing else.

Around 4pm, they found themselves sitting in a park, each with an ice cream in hand.

"Thanks for today, Karma. I think I needed it."

"Damn right you do." Karma replied immediately.

"It's just... sometimes I don't have the strength to do that..."

Karma didn't answer immediately, looking thoughtful. Finally, he turned to his friend. "Nagi, what if you ran away?"

"W-What?"

"You don't have to put up with all this. What she's putting you through isn't normal."

"She's my mother, she knows what's best for me." Nagisa tried weakly.

"No, that's bullshit. She can help you, guide you, advise you, but under no circumstances should she control you. You're not a second game of her life, you're your own person. She shouldn't control you the way she does, and I'm sorry to say it like this, but what you experience on a daily basis is abuse. And if you want out, there's help available."

"Who could help me? She's my mother Karma. People will think I'm just a teenager having a fit and fed up with my mother. They'll say I'm only doing this for attention and to be dramatic."

Nagisa's words seemed too swift and sure to be mere chance, and Karma almost broke out in a cold sweat.

"Nagisa. Has anyone ever said that to you? Has anyone ever accused you of just being dramatic?"

Nagisa didn't answer, but his bowed head and averted face spoke for him.

"I'm gonna kill them. Tell me who and I'm gonna kill them!" Karma demanded as he stood up, looking furious.

"Karma no!" Nagisa exclaimed, grabbing him by the arm. "If you kill someone you'll go to jail and I don't want that."

Karma didn't move for a moment before sitting back down. "Okay. I'm not going to kill them. But tell me who told you that."

"No." Nagisa continued, "It doesn't matter."

The redhead didn't agree. He really disagreed, but he also knew that there was no point in insisting, and that Nagisa would only get angry if he insisted too much.

"Okay. But things have changed Nagisa. Do you seriously think that if you went to Koro-Sensei and told him what you go through on a daily basis, he'd turn you down? You know as well as I do that damn octopus is far more involved in our lives than just his classroom."

"Yes, I know." Nagisa sighed, "That's just it, I don't know if I want him involved in my life any more. Besides, it's a bit strange, receiving help from your target, isn't it?"

Karma shrugged. "Bof. But if you don't want to talk to Koro-Sensei about it, you can always ask Karasuma-Sensei, he won't refuse you help."

"How can you be so sure? Karasuma-Sensei is distant at best and cold at worst. He doesn't care much for us."

"That's not true. And I'm so sure because he's helped me before."

"Really?"

"Yeah. I didn't want to at first but he's actually pretty stubborn so I ended up agreeing."

"What did he do?"

"You know my parents aren't really around?"

That was an understatement if Nagisa could recognize one. Karma's parents had almost abandoned him, and the other boy lived alone. His parents paid for everything, but he never saw them.

Nagisa simply nodded, thinking that if he opened his mouth, he'd end up saying everything he thought about Karma's parents out loud, and that wasn't the point.

"Well, when Karasuma found out, he wasn't happy. And after insisting for a long time, he finally... I still can't fucking believe it. He moved in with me."

Nagisa stopped and blinked several times.

"Karasuma-sensei... lives at your place?"

"Just because the house my parents pay me for is bigger than the dingy apartment the Ministry of Defense provides him, otherwise he'd have made me come live with him. But yeah. When he found out I was living alone, he said that it wouldn't continue. So he came to live with me. He's not a pain in the ass and lets me get on with my life without being on my back, but he's there. It gives me someone to share my meals with and tell my day to when I feel like it. And he's never admitted it to me, but I'm pretty sure he's suing my parents for negligence. And he's doing the same for Hara, Terasaka and Maehara, whose living conditions are honestly much worse than mine. And he's changed our contracts with the Ministry so that we get paid and compensated, among other things partly so that Isogai doesn't have to work as much."

Nagisa was speechless. He had no idea what their teacher was doing.

"Karasuma cares about us, Nagisa. So if you go to him and tell him what your mother is putting you through, he'll help you."

Nagisa still didn't answer, and Karma decided to play his last card. "Anyway, if you don't tell him, I will."

"What? No! You can't tell him Karma!"

"If you don't, I will." Karma repeated. "This can't go on, Nagi. She's abusing you and I can’t let this happen much longer. So I won't do it right away, but if it goes on I'll tell him. And he'll get you out of there."

Nagisa said nothing, but felt his eyes sting and let his head fall on Karma's shoulder, who put an arm around his best friend's shoulders.

"It's okay Nagi, we'll get you out of there." Karma said gently, running a hand up his back.

He promised himself he'd get Nagisa out of this situation; his friend deserved it.
