Headcannon that the Rogues interact like a big friend group because the world has made them all feel invaluable and unattractive at different points, in different ways. Because attractiveness is made up, and so is the law!

The Penguin and The Riddler are known allys. Gotham loves to call The Penguin anything fatphobic under the sun, and The Riddler is considered an egotistical maniac. Oswald is convinced Ed wouldn’t ever be interested in him, worried he’d take issue with the fact that he’s fat and disabled, weary of close relationships due to his life thus far. Edward started losing hair at 22, not that anyone else so much as noticed. Ed frantically grabs his hat any time he’s going to see Oswald, he covers freckles with foundation and he can’t physically go to sleep unless he flosses twice. The first sleep over at one of their hideouts was weird, but they realized they didn’t have to be afraid of it.

The Scarecrow has a crooked nose, smells like ciggerettes and sweat. He’s not polite, he’s brass at best. Mad Hatter is short and has a baby face. Jervis experiences frequent delusions, too. Jonathan feels like no one would ever love him, why would they? Jervis is obsessed, but also can’t help but hold back because he’s been made to feel creepy for wanting any sort of relationship.

Catwoman has self harm scars, and she’s been insecure over these “cat scratches” for as long as she’s had them. It couldn’t phase her loved ones less. Poison Ivy was shamed for her special interest in plants, and Harley Quinn was victim blamed through her abuse. Pamela and Harley kiss Selina’s forehead like she’s a cat as a way to cheer her up when she’s feeling like her arms are ugly. Both Harley and Selina like to get assigned plans when Pamela feels up to infodumping. And Harley likes to make friendship bracelets when the gang gets stressed.

Two Face resents his scars, and he feels like no one would ever love someone who has DID. He lost his wife in the persuit of revenge, maybe whatever else he found along the way was just filling a hole. “Maybe,” he considers, he’s an “immoral, useless human being”. But Harvey Dent? Best guy you’ll meet if you’re into cheesey puns, everyone embraces him as a friend, because he is. (Even if he’s a pain to work with.) He’s just another head at the table who has chips on his shoulder, so why is he the irredeemable one? Both of the versions of him they get to know and love are welcome.

The Rogues may not always see eye to eye, but there is honor amongst thieves. And friendship among those with common enemies.
