The confession is basically admitting that they are more hateful than school bullies, more unreasonable than desperate soldiers, less forgiving than extreme psychotic fanatics, and less humane than mindless protesting mobs. So go ahead, shit on yourself some more. A beacon is a guidance to safety out at sea, but the inability to follow is ALL on the boats themselves. Heroes cannot save the people that refused to be saved, and even "hope" cannot inspire people who have no respect for themselves.
LOL at the fact that Arthur Curry was Mr. Steal-Yo-Girl to his own brother.
DCEU!Mera is totally their version of Disney’s Ariel
Long, flowing, Kool-Aid red hair? Check.
A princess, because she’s the daughter of a king of an underwater kingdom that “the human world” doesn’t know exists? Check.
Father is protective? Check.
Knows her way around a sunken ship? Check.
Falls in love with a “surface dweller”? Check.
That surface dweller is a prince? Check.
Rescues her prince from potential death, while underwater? Check.
Gets shown around a quaint European village with her prince? Check.
Completely, but kind of adorably, misuses a surface world item in front of her prince? Check. (🍴🌹)
Musically inclined? Check. (Seriously, why the hell else was that written into the movie? It wasn’t even plot-relevant.)
Mesmerizes her prince when he sees her spinning a melody while sitting against a background of glowing sunlight? Check.
It also helps that Amber Heard’s got those big, “Disney princess eyes”.
Of course there are differences, a big one being that Mera initially held a very negative opinion of the surface world, whereas Ariel was fascinated and enamored by it. But some of the similarities are pretty striking, and I really think at least a few of them were intentional. I mean, there was that extended shout-out to Pinocchio, another classic tale turned famous Disney property. Mera’s already got bright red hair and is a princess and lives under the sea, and James Wan definitely doesn’t mind “leaning into” things. It also wouldn’t be the first time the DCEU invoked parallels to The Little Mermaid, seeing as the scenes where Diana rescues Steve from drowning in Wonder Woman were almost direct recreations of the Ariel-rescues-Eric scenes.
“Dead In The Water” by Ellie Goulding is a pretty good song for Arthur and Mera.
But “Dead In The Water” is an absolutely perfect song for Atlanna and Tom.
WAIT, OH MY GOSH...What if...in the Aquaman sequel...they re-create the AquaMera proposal from Rebirth #1 ????
Me when the Karathen told Arthur he had “tainted mongrel blood”:
Arthur, to Mera: “You alright?”
My hardcore AquaMera shippin ass:
